hatok 6,413 Posted August 26, 2012 Northern Ireland ): I've been in the newspaper and all for having amazing grades and it will do me no good when it actually comes to Uni when I have no money to pay for it. I would be happy to travel somewhere else to try and get a scholarship, but I couldn't cover the expense of actually getting anywhere (i've never even been on holiday outside of the UK, i'm 18 and the most i've done is got a ferry and 12 hour long coach to London to see family). Also can't study in my neighboring country England cause the cost of tuition there is now 9K (instead of 4K here) since our Prime Minister allowed universities to charge whatever they want. Ohh... I feel really bad for you. If I actually had money, I'd totally send you some A person who is skilled should be rewarded as such. Have you considered going to schools and speaking about trying hard and all that? Or, I mean, being in the newspaper must at least give you enough credit to find a good job, right? I don't think so /: all the industries round me want someone with experience, and when I did my work experience in school I worked at the Institute of Visual and Vascular science. Not many retail shops want that, so i'm still unemployed even though i've been looking for work for 3 years. And I don't see how i'll gain this experience if I'm never given a chance... Based on my income, I should be entitled to a grant for university, but i'd still need to get a heap of loans for dorms and daily living, 'cause the only university with course I wanna do (Computer Science/Computer Games Development) in my country is 3 hours away from where I live ):

Try to find work online. If you're good with art, there are a lot of people out there looking to make commissions. If you do programming, there's a lot of that out there too. You just need to find the right pressure point to apply your skills

I have a deviantART (http://caitytrina.deviantart.com/) but I don't think i'm good enough yet where people would buy my art I've tried looking online and got nothing, i'll just have to wait til I can grasp hopelessly to some sort of opportunity

Give that a try. Also, I have a friend who is, no offence to her, much worse at art than you, who sells her commissions for upwards of 20 bucks. So I think you can do it. Just work on getting your name out there, advertise whenever and however you can.

Hmm, I could try, but I think i'd need to start a youtube channel to better promote my art, but I have no camera that records films Sigh, i'm sitting hoping that the off license near me has an opening for staff (I have no change of working in GAME for a part time job like I wanted ): Because they just need you to be 18+ (and my birthday was recently, was mugged on it too...) and their previous openings I couldn't apply cause I was 17...So waiting in hope I might invest some of my ema (after I save up for a laptop for uni) in polymer clay and make charms to sell on etsy...but that's quite a while away
