Nomura: To search for his friend he needed the power to move between worlds, and there is no way to do that other than become a Keyblade Wielder. However how can that be true, when in KH1 Donald and Goofy left Disney Castle in their gummi ship and arrived to Traverse Town without being keyblade wielders ? The walls between worlds were down at this time... And they had the gummie ship. After one the walls went back up and Sora had to unlock special lanes in order to travel. Lea doesn't have a Gummie Ship, but I am assuming he was using corridors of darkness.
