Tips from a college student

Recommended Posts

Here are a few thing's that I think will help any of you newbies going off to college this year.

Any College Students: Feel free to add your own tips! :D

1. Be yourself! In college, most people aren't into trying to figure out who you really are. You're going to meets lots of new people and it's best to be transparent with them and just be you.

2. Stay cool with the professor even if he/she is a jerk. I've seen a few students in my college career let their emotions get the best of them simply because they didn't "like" a professor and it cost them their grade. If a professor is being a bully just be cool about it. You'll regret getting on your professors bad side.

3. Break from your comfort zone. In high school you we're probally use to hanging out with your click but this isn't high school. Don't be afraid to socialize with different types of people.

4. Order those books online 2 weeks before the semester starts. This is important because of two reasons:

a: They're cheaper online.

b: they take a while to arrive.

So while everyone is scrambling at the jampacked bookstore during the first week of the semester (which is the worst!) you'll be sitting back chillin while your books are delivered and your wallet stays fat ;)

In addition if I may add,

A. Don't play hooky because you think you can. You're likely to miss several important things.

B. If you're still unsure about what degree you want don't sweet it, there is still time to change your mind while doing the basics. Talk with the people around you to get other ideas. Some unexpected interests come from equally unexpected people and places.

How to have fun at college.

Step 1. Get drunk as possible

Step 2. Streak across campus with the school mascot painted across your chest.(Show your school pride)

Step 3. Avoid trouble by bribing your teachers then get them fired by showing that they accepted.

Step 4. Prove your teacher wrong whenever you can (extra points if your drunk)

Step 5. Pass out on the floor of your dorm and do it all again tommorow

Rob didn't have online back in his day. He had to wake up early then travel miles to get a couple books.

what, no hand-scribing?

To add to this, college is a great place to start networking for the future. It gets you used to being around different people (and people skills are essential for any job), and you never know who has what information or what connection. To give you an example of how this benefits you, just yesterday, I was at a gathering at someone else's house and there was a guy sitting near me that I was just gonna ignore. I decided that was lame and decided to strike up a conversation, and eventually, the conversation turned into some VERY nice leads for job opportunities that are within and close to my field. All just because I decided to say hi, and the guy I was talking to just so happened to have juicy experience and tidbits.

Such is the power of socializing. Make use of it.
