TheApprenticeofKingMickey 3,689 Posted August 6, 2012 Since there have been a lot of these threads floating around and we're trying to keep the Media forum organized, I thought making a thread like this would be good idea. (: The title states the obvious but there's a requirement. If you're going to recommend an anime or manga you think is good, give at least one reason why you think it's good and why it should be watched/read. Don't go listing a bunch of titles and leaving people in the dark or judging the anime/manga by its title. Give an expectation as to why they should enjoy said recommendation. Now that the requirement is known, go ahead and starting giving recommendations should you feel like it! 2 GN_Otaku and Weiss reacted to this
GN_Otaku 70 Posted August 6, 2012 Code Geass is just a masterpiece, the first few episodes are slow and then it gets very very good!! Every episode has something shocking, it's a very amazing anime, lelouch is a great protagonist and his plans are flawless!! The ending of the show is the best part! , 5 TheApprenticeofKingMickey, Xiro, Rob and 2 others reacted to this
phantomhive 26 Posted August 6, 2012 I would recommend Katekyo Hitman Reborn it has a good and funny story although the first arc can be a bore but if you pull through it you will see its definetly one to watch. Also I recommed Another its a really good anime it has mystery, suspense and gore and the story will intrigue you in a matter of seconds atleast it did to me. 2 GN_Otaku and TheApprenticeofKingMickey reacted to this

TheApprenticeofKingMickey 3,689 Posted August 6, 2012 There's this one anime movie I can vouch for called The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's an excellent movie. The characters feel very real, very relatable and this movie had the best voicework I have ever heard. And that's saying something. I'm very particular when it comes to voice actors. Decimo 243 Posted August 6, 2012 Seconding the rec for Katekyo Hitman Reborn!; the first seven volumes are a rather hilarious slice-of-life shounen manga, but once the following arc kicks in (and through all of the rest of the series) you slowly realize how everything that happened at the start is actually relevant. Short synopsis: Tsuna is a normal teenager, who lives with his mother and fails at everything he tries, school included. Because of this, his mother hires a home tutor, a baby named Reborn, to help him out, without knowing that Reborn is actually a mafia assassin that purposefully approached the family to reveal Tsuna he's destined to become the next boss of the world-famous mafia family Vongola. 4 GN_Otaku, phantomhive, Nora Valkyrie and 1 other reacted to this
Akihiko 1,628 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) I'd recommend Rurouni Kenshin (manga). It takes place in the Meiji era in Japan. The main protagonist is Kenshin Himura, once the killer Hitokiri Battosai, now he is a wandering man that helps others. After meeting Kaoru, he stays at a dojo. The story is a mix of romance, comedy and action. It really is good and really sad things happen. This manga can make you cry quite a few times. I'd also recommend Katekyo Hitman Reborn, already explained above. Ivan 969 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) An anime/manga I will highly recommend to anyone is Monster (also known as Naoki Urasawa's Monster). The story's about a Japanese doctor named Kenzo Tenma, who works at a hospital in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1986 as a brain surgeon. Everything in his life was good. He had a promotion in the palm of his hands along with the director of the hospital's daughter as his fiancée. However after he decided to save the life of a young boy named Johan Liebert from a gun shot to the head instead of the mayor of Düsseldorf, he loses everything. Soon after this occurrence the director and other doctors who mocked Tenma are mysteriously murdered, and both Johan and his twin sister disappear. The prime suspect is Tenma, but due to the lack of evidence the police were unable to do anything. Nine years pass and the mysterious killings start up again. One night Tenma finds one of his patients held at gunpoint by none other than the little boy he saved all those years ago, Johan. Johan kills his patient, and spares the life of Tenma, saying he could never kill the life of the man who saved him and flees. The police suspect Tenma for the murder, and he's sent on the run. The story then follows Tenma's journey throughout Europe as he tries to unveil Johan's plot behind all the murders as he hides from the police. Reasons to watch this anime: Characters: There are many characters in this show that are focused upon, not just Tenma and Johan. Both main and side characters affect the plot. You will spend a few episodes getting to know their story. In the beginning it seems like all the stories don't relate, but in the end they all intertwine to create one grand creation. Length: Now I'm very picky when it comes to legnths of anime that I watch. If an anime has more than 100 episodes I won't touch it with a ten foot pole. Monster is 74 episodes in length, which made me sceptical about it at first. However, since not all the episodes focused around Tenma, and had other stories that tied together, it was hard to notice the episodes just whipping by me. The length of this anime is perfect. The story is neither rushed nor drawn out. With the main story of Tenma, and the side stories of his old friends and enemies, everything is executed perfectly and smoothly. Music: Monster has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in an anime. I guarantee that the music will chill you to your core. Take an example from the . Voice acting: Both the sub and dubbed versions of the anime are fantastic. Now we all know how hard it can be to find a dubbed version of an anime where the voices actually fit the characters, and this show does that. There are many familiar voices in this anime, such as Liam O'Brien as Kenzo Tenma, Richard Epcar as Inspector Runge (a detective after Tenma), Laura Bailey as a young boy named Dieter who travels alongside Tenma, along with appearances from Kirk Thornton, Yuri Lowenthal, Patrick Seitz, and Kyle Hebert. Best villain ever? Yes, best villain ever.: Johan, the glorious bastard himself. He is the monster behind Monster. Adults trust him, children love him, and Neo Nazi organizations want him to be their leader. Oh yeah, and he looks fabulous in a wig and skirt. Johan is the kind of man who knows how to use his strengths to the fullest. He can talk sober men into drinking themselves to their death, and can promise children holy power if they can survive his game of jumping off the roof of a tall building (which they actually believe and attempt). Johan doesn't need special powers, money, or an army behind him. He just needs his young trusting face, and silver tongue. The full anime is available to watch both on Youtube and Hulu, and the manga you'll be able to find online as well. Both the anime and manga are hard to find in stores, and if you watch or read the anime or manga and you like it, be sure to pick either of them up if you find them in stores! Seriously I missed my chances and regretted it. Edited August 6, 2012 by Ivan 2 dusk and TheApprenticeofKingMickey reacted to this

Lady Aleister 1,677 Posted August 12, 2012 THE BETRAYAL KNOWS MY NAME (Uraboku/ Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru) IT IS AWESOME I love the plot, and Yuki's misunderstandings, its kind of sad, if you put yourself in that situation. It may seem a little gay, but its not! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betrayal_Knows_My_Name there are 24 episodes, and that is were my profile pic and username came from. The Mystic Archives of Dantalian (Dantalian no Shoka, Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian) This is so sad :'( I dont see why it did not get put in the saddest anime's. The ending will make you cry :''''( There are twelve episodes, each are filled with dark evil. Gosick There are 24 episodes, and its good. Quiet sad. But it ends well. I dont really know what to say about it...
dusk 910 Posted November 7, 2012 Time to resurrect this thread! Shakugan no Shana, Oh my lord this serie is amazing. Last weekend the season 1 blu ray came and I just was like clued to screen and loved every second of it. Like seriously, the all the characters are just epic and everything is just too good. I really don't like romance stuff too much, but this does it pretty well although they start to focus on it more on season three. Anyone who likes epic fights and good story line must watch this. Then Gundam 00: This is without doubt my favourite Gundam anime so far. I love how the characters look, they have cool personalities although they seem like stones in few first episodes. Mecha battles are nice looking and this is one of the only animes which doesn't have even one opening I wouldn't like. The OST is truly great, especially in the movie which is little bit of let down for great serie. Also I would recomnend the Code Geass (best anime ever), Mirai Nikki and Rurouni Kenshin, but all of them has already been mentioned. Also I don't have time and energy to recomnend like all the animes I like. 1 Nora Valkyrie reacted to this
mrberzerko 25 Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) I would recommend Kaze no Stigma, the anime. It's really good, the mc is a total goon, and it has great potential, but the creator died while it was in its early stages so the ending is okay, but don't let that deter you from it though. I would also recommend The Breaker and The Breaker: New Waves if your are into martial arts manga. This one is really good, basically mc is a total pushover but one day he runs into Gumoonryung, master of nine arts dragon, and becomes his disciple. It has great character development and the ending to the first part (The Breaker) it gets you right in the heart. Another excellent martial arts manga is History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. This one has a great mix of action, comedy, a hint of romance, and excellent character development. Also, two must see anime series that everyone HAS to watch are Angel Beats and Clannad & Clannad: After Story, literally two of the best series I have ever seen. I cried like a little bitch watching both of those they are just that amazing. Story's are so perfect, characters are totally relatable and you actually care about what happens to them, I HIGHLY recommend both of these anime. There are a lot more I would highly recommend but that would span multiple posts lol, so here are just a few: Mahou Sensei Negima (manga) Noblesse (manga) Dance in the Vampire Bund (manga) Sekirei (manga) Gantz (manga) Rosario + Vampire & Rosario + Vampire season II (manga) Kekkaishi (manga) Girl the Wild's (manga) Happy reading/watching!!!!!!!! Nora Valkyrie 461 Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) Shugo Chara!- The series may seem childish and girly but actually it's not! The plot gets darker the more you go and even guys enjoy the funny scenes in the series. The series is about a 11 year old (12 in the anime) girl named Hinamori Amu who has a cool and spicy character at school. However this is not Amu's true self. Amu is actually girly and somewhat cynical and wishes to act that way even in school so she wishes she could be her real self. So the next day....SHE FINDS THREE COLORFUL EGGS ON HER BED! Amu goes to school in a worried state bringing the eggs. Amu's school is special though. There is a group called The Guardians which is like a Student Conical and they all have eggs too. Amu has a crush on The Guradian's King Tadase, but appeared to him in a rude way. After admitting her love for Tadase (in a rather funny/ embarrassing way) for a unkown reason she runs away where she eventually falls in a construction site hole! Amu lands on a 16 year old boy who's name is Ikuto, who knows that she has her three eggs. Almost about to get crushed by a pile of huge rocks, One of Amu's eggs hatches to show a small cheerleader fairy named Ran. Ran uses her power on Amu to help her escape, while Ikuto uses his cat chara Yoru to escape. From there Ran explains what Charas are and that's when the series begins! With transformations, small characters, and a lot of humor and action; this series is at best! The characters are awesome and the story makes u wounder who u really are! I REALLY reccomend this for first time Anime watchers and more! Edited November 8, 2012 by Lee Loves KH Forever 1 FireRubies1 reacted to this
Ultima Weapon 71 Posted November 15, 2012 (edited) There are few mangas that I dare to recomend. I personally enjoy mangas with magic, comedy and a lot of fights, and a really good Art. Here's a couple that I really like: Magi (manga) by Ohtaka Shinobu Plot: Aladdin is a boy who has set out to explore the world after being trapped in a room for most of his life. His best friend is a flute with a djinn in it named Ugo. Soon enough, Aladdin discovers he is a Magi, a magician who chooses kings, and he was born to choose kings who will follow the righteous path, battling against those who want to destroy fate. He meets others from 1000 Arabian Nights, like Ali Baba and Sinbad, and fights to keep the balance of world in check!. this manga has a lot of comedy, awesome fights, and an intriguing story (Aladdin is not an ordinary kid ) Still ongoing, nice drawing, one of my favorites. Witch Hunter (manwa) by Cho Jung-man Plot: Witches suddenly declare war against humans, they summon monsters called "Supporters" and devastate human residences. Survivors gather people with the power to combat the witches and called them Witch Hunters! Tasha Godspell (the main character) is one of the strongest. He fights the witches but cannot really bring himself to hate them, why?. this manwa is incredibly interesting, each Witch Hunter has a diferent style, all the battles are awesome, and it has a really good character design (and a lot of fan service). Still ongoing, I love the drawing. Edited November 16, 2012 by Ultima Weapon 1 mrberzerko reacted to this
dusk 910 Posted November 17, 2012 This thread should be pinned so people will see it and don't make all of those "what animes should I watch threads" Durarara!! (デュラララ!! which author has stated means nothing and often romanized as DRRR!! in japan is Japanese light novel written by Ryohgo Narita with illustrations by Suzuhito Yazuta, that also has been adpated into anime. Plot: Mikado Ryūgamine, a young boy who longs for the exciting life of the big city, moves to Ikebukuro at the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi Kida, whom he has not seen since he was young, to attend Raira Academy with him. After meeting Masaomi at the train station, they both set out at night to the streets of Ikebukuro. Masaomi warns him about people he doesn't want to cross in the city: like a violent and superhumanly strong man, Shizuo Heiwajima, an information broker, Izaya Orihara, and a mysterious gang known as "The Dollars." After running into some of the side characters, Mikado witnesses a local legend called the "Black Rider", who rides around Ikebukuro on a black bike that occasionally brays like a horse and also rumored to have no head under its helmet. The "Black Rider" is Celty Sturluson, an Irish Dullahan who is in Ikebukuro looking for her stolen head. The narrative follows all of the characters equally, showing how their lives intersect, creating a greater plotline from what each character knows about a common incident. Reasons why you should watch this serie: Story telling is amazing, it's nice to see story that is told by everyone, not just focusing on one character. Actually the first episodes just introduce characters from their point of view. Durarara!! has really unique and good looking characters, they all have cool personalities and everyone gets screen time. The best characters are Heiwajima Shizuo, the guy with super strenght and big anger management issues and his rival Orihara Izaya, who is sneaky information dealer who has weird "I love humans, because they are so intresting" complex. Art style is amazing, it's unique, the animation is smooth and I haven't seen anything like this. OST sounds really weird at first, but it's unique and really fits on anime and it's nice to hear something else than overly epic battle musics and too cheesy sad musics. Voice acting is well made. Both English and Japanese voice acting has been done extremely well and all of the characters sound what they look. It has some of my favourite voice actors like: Daisuke Ono, Hiroshi Kamiya and Jun Fukuyama. 1 GN_Otaku reacted to this

Reyn 1,755 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND: "Blue Exorcist". The Main protagonist, Rin Okumura, is a teenager, who is very anger prone, and daring. After blue flames start to emerge from his body, he is told by his step father, that he and his twin brother(Yukio Okumura) are the sons of Satan, the ruler of hell, which contains all the other demons. Rin's stepfather, is part of a group of Exorcists, who train to fight demons, and send them back into hell. Soon, Rin realizes even Yukio has already joined. After Rin's stepfather is killed when Satan tries to take over his body, Rin decides to become an exorcist himself, and with his demon sword that is linked to his powers, goes to the Exorcist academy, to become the person to destroy Satan once and for all. Its REALLY, REALLY GOOD and action packed. I recommend it as an amazing Manga(And Anime)that is worth looking into. Think Pink 1,967 Posted June 5, 2013 I would seriously recommend Mawaru Penguindrum I'm actually not quite finished with it yet but it's an amazing show. It's surprising, cute, funny, and sad. Plotwise, it's about this little girl named Himari who is deathly ill, and her two brothers are trying to save her. The first 15 minutes or so are sad, but really quickly it gets cute and upbeat. The music is wonderful too seriously go watch it.
