Your misunderstanding the point of what your trying to ask. They change 'nicknames' as I like to call them whenever they usually level up in hearts. I don't understand the purpose at all though.

^ they are called dispositions, and every disposition has an eye type. look at you dream eaters eyes next time you pet it. Im not sure what exactly each dispositon does. Hidden abilities maybe?

I'm not sure if they get better stats or something like that, but sometimes when they change Dispositions, the Ability Link Board will expand for more abilities. And their eyes change W00T!

I didn't notice the eye-changing thing. Cool,

The dispositions change the Dream Eater's attack style, as Funny2Never said.

However, you also need to change to certain dispositions to unlock hidden abilities in the Link Board. Disposition changes where you rub/nudge them.

Eg,

Meow Wow (Wondernyan) changes Dispositions when you:

  • Stray -> Stroking the head as well as the tail area, or nudging the feet and the tail area.
  • Rascal -> Stroking the head/feet or nudging the face/tail area
  • Smart Cookie -> Stroking the feet/tail area or nudging face/feet
  • Sidekick -> Stroking the feet/tail area or nudging the face/tail
Nudge and Stroke everywhere!

Zanzetsuken basically answered the question, here's a guide to lists of dream eaters and includes tables with the appropriate action to change a spirits disposition.

http://uk.ign.com/wikis/kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance/Dream_Eaters

There's also this site (in Japanese, using google chrome to translate it)

http://wikiwiki.jp/kh_3d/?%A5%C9%A5%EA%A1%BC%A5%E0%A5%A4%A1%BC%A5%BF%A1%BC%2F%A5%B9%A5%D4%A5%EA%A5%C3%A5%C8

It has grids with the full ability boards so you can see which dispositions you're missing before wasting your time (like I did) achieving ones you already had ,_,

Also tip. Don't sit and pet/nudge your dream eater for ages hoping it'd change. I found mine change far more frequently if I fight (small area, just going between 2 rooms) then go and pet your dream eater in the right spot. I wasted probably MORE than an hour trying to change my salamander to a wheeler, when I went and fought in the grand lobby and was able to change it right away after ._.

http://www.gamefaqs....ance/faqs/64749 -I'm going to sound incredibly vain, arrogant etc saying this, but nothing is as complete as my faq when it comes to Dream Eaters.

Explains dispositions, methods of petting (rubbing and nudging) and what attacks every dream eater will use in each disposition.

This is not entirely accurate. It implies (actually outright states) that a DE will only change disposition when you pet them in a specific area. That isn't the case. They change dependant on whether you poke or rub them positively, or negatively.

Purple: Negative Poke

Blue: Positive Poke

Green: Negative Rub

Yellow: Positive Rub

They will always change according to this, but sometimes you'll think you're doing something positive when you're actually doing something negative. (negative being when they jump up and down, shake their heads, growl at you, etc) This is because, even if you're doing something negative, if you recieve a bonus in affinity, exp or LP they will do their happy dance, regardless of positive/negative.

You can only change their disposition once per visit to the spirit menu. Exit to the main menu and reenter and you'll have no trouble. That's why fighting and going back in made it happen quickly.

A Spirit's disposition never changes when you nudge/stroke them in the wrong way. However, they do gain Affinity, Exp or LP points even when they are touched in the wrong spot, depending on their happiness levels.

Happiness levels are important. (How brightly they shine) Depending on the amount, you may get a response or not.

Example:

If you do:

If Wondernyan is about 1<x<70 % happy, they have an 80% chance of gaining Affinity Points, 30% chance of EXP and 40% chance of LP. Whereas if they are touched negatively, they have a 40% chance of gaining affinity, 15% of EXP and 20% of LP.

You should stroke/nudge them in their appropriate areas to change their dispositions. Of course, food and playing with them helps with their dispositions and levels, but in this way, you are more precise with where their disposition-change spots are.

This was all taken from the Dream Drop Distance Ultimania。But of course, the results could vary.

I must sound super arrogant disputing the Ultimania, even if only to a degree, it isn't my intention, but I am very, very confident in what I'm saying. I, and many others on Gfaqs who helped me write the guide experienced the same things, and I haven't (yet) had a single person claim the positive/negative thing is incorrect.

I am not at all trying to argue against any formula there is for bonuses, I have no stake in that, nor interest. (If it happens it happens, can't really change that) And honestly, I can't say I'm in any position to even fully grasp the formula you just put forth.

I suggest you play with a DE, doesn't really matter which one, and nudge/pet it according to the positive/negative rule. It has never failed me.

The one thing I can guarantee is wrong on that, is that it says you can achieve any disposition eye colour by poking/nudging. I, and no one else I've talked to has found that to be true. It is Purple/Blue exclusively for nudging, and Green/Yellow exclusively for petting.

This is 100% wrong. You will never, ever get a purple of blue eyed disposition by rubbing your DE, only POKING. Vice versa for green and yellow.

Explain to me how I can, more than once get exactly the disposition I want for 51 spirits if I am wrong? The area you pet them doesn't matter, only if it's positive/negative. Where they like to, or don't like to be rubbed/poked ALSO changes with each disposition.

TL;DR version based on many peoples accounts

- No such thing as wrong spot

- positive/negative is what matters

- Purple/Blue from poking, Green/Yellow from nudging

- If that's from the ultimania it's wrong. (I really hate saying the ultimania is wrong)

Whilst I agree that the Positive/Negative function still exists, it cannot be overlooked that there is even a slight possibility of gaining a 'Negative' Disposition from a 'Positive touch', even if there is a small and rare chance.

There are no wrong spots, just random area's where the Spirit gets an urge to yell at you. But there are optimal zones for areas to get certain dispositions faster than other areas. You can rub/nudge anywhere but sometimes just hitting the right zone may allow for faster change.

Overall, I agree that the Positive/Negative function is more useful than the Ultimania at the moment. However there are also Hotspots that aid the Disposition change!

I think you're overlooking that sometimes they'll display their happy dance even when nudging/petting them in a negative spot when they recieve the LP, exp, or affinity bonuses. If you got a negative disposition with a positive action, without any bonuses then ok, but I and many others have yet to see it, and it must be so small it's negligible.
