KH3D [SPOILERS] Uncle Dolan's Partial Review of KH3D

Recommended Posts

I'm only around half way through the game, and I will be making a full review whenever I do get around to beating it.

I went into 'Dream Drop Distance' like any other KH game, but I was instead greeted with new change. Change that was unnecessary. Let me just list features/things that I found in the game and do a mini-review on them: (I'll put either a (y) for a ok addition/change/feature or a (n) for a bad addition/change/feature)

DIVE SYSTEM: I didn't personally see the need for this, Gummi Ships were just fine they were in KH2. (and just going right into the world, in BBS) The idea was a pretty good one, short and sweet, but it was terribly preformed. Each mission is a chore to do, just waiting for the goal to open so you can play the damn game. At least it isn't as bad as KH1 Gummi Ship missions... *shot* (N)

DREAM EATER SYSTEM: As much as I might of sobbed for Dolan Donald and Gooby Goofy, Dream Eaters are even better. The little games you can play with them, training them (just like a Nintendogs mode), and going through the 'Ability Link' (which looks awfully similar to the 'Crystarium' level-up system in Final Fantasy XIII-2) unlocking new abilities for Sora and Riku all make it a little bit more special. (Y)

FLOWMOTION SYSTEM: This is one of the only good things to come out of this game, the way this was preformed is brilliant. The fact that the 'gliding' ability of Flowmotion ends bugs me along with the fact that there is a 'Glide' ability in the game, rendering it useless. Getting used to the activation method is a little weird at first, but once you get used to it, get ready for flight and drops (literally) (Y)

MAJOR FPS DROPS: Using the Flowmotion system doesn't exactly cause this, but in-conjuction with the extra-large maps and the mass amounts of enemies that spawn on screen. It becomes a living hell to even play this game. Worlds such as The Grid get hit real hard by this, as well as a certain boss named Gargoyle (NUCLEAR MISSLE LAUNCHER MACHINE RAAAAAAAH!!!!) (N)

BUGS/GLITCHES: Kingdom Hearts 3D also got hit with a huge amount of bugs, three so far on my first play-through. Bugs are to be expected in these games, but there are so many then usual as well as them not being patched over the course of some 4 months. Was that all dedicated to translation or what? (N)

Here is one I've encountered and recorded:

MUSIC: Now don't get me started with the music. Tsuyoshi Sekito somehow got in-charge of almost all of the boss music and f**cked it all up. Shimomura and Ishimoto did their best to compose/arrange great music for this abomination of a game which is why I think it deserves a (Y) from me.

WORLDS: Unlike most recent titles, almost all of the worlds in this game are brand new. It's been a mixed bag for me so far, as I only liked 1/2 of the worlds I've seen so far. One thing I've noticed, is that everything is extremely limited. You really only get to see a few areas of what could of been almost a dozen. (N)

PROGRAMMING AND AI: From what I've played, both of these were poorly thought out. The poor programming of the 'Flowmotion' system causes enemies in the air sometimes to get stuck. The AI for certain bosses (Rinzler and Gargoyle) are not balanced, and can sometimes go faster then you dodge-spamming and attack you faster then you can block/evade. (N)

------

DOLAN'S FINAL THUMB COUNT-UP:

Thumbs-up: 3

Thumbs-down: 5

FINAL PARTIAL SCORE: 3/8

------

Whenever my full review is released, I'll try to condense sections and figure out a proper scoring system.
