Oh them Meteors

[VIIth Angel 35]

Mary Jane's rebuttle made Patricia jump a little.

"I, I, I just..." She cleared her throat. "I just think I might be in the same predicament as you... With th- th- those powers." She started to studder scared of what would happen to her.

She pushed her glasses closer to her face again.

"I'm not that careless. I time things right. I watch people, I don't just go when I feel. I wait for the perfect second to port. Also you shouldn't get mad at me when there are kids up on youtube exploiting there powers. So if you're going to point a finger don't point it at me." John said angrily seeing the girl walk away knowing it was pretty much him and the invisible girl. John then heard the sirens again followed by firetrucks and more police cars. He knew it must be bad so he looked around him seeing if the girl was visible but no such luck.

 

"Look I should chill with my powers but don't jump on my case. Also this may upset you but I'm about to use my powers again. I'm not letting anyone get hurt in that fire. You are welcome to come and help but that is your choice. I wouldn't expect you to use your powers and get us exposed, leaving people to burn alive. That would ruin us" John said with sarcasm and a hint of anger as he ported to the next roof seeing an apartment on fire. He ported secretly behind a firetruck and saw an extra fire suit lying in a box. John ported away and ported back wearing the fire suit and having his face covered.

 

John took a deep breath as he ported in and out of different spots then back to the fire truck. He then ported back and actually found someone. They were trapped under a beam. John ported away and ported back with an axe. He tore through the beam with the axe. He then picked up an older woman who was stuck. Luckily she was unconcious and John laid her outside next to an empty ambulance. The firefighters then started spraying the building with water. John ported back inside and was in a bedroom with two kids hiding in the closet. Scared, John picked them both up and transported by the front door so everyone would think he ran through the door.

 

John saw a mother being held back by other fire fighters. John was about to walk through the door when it collapsed. The mother being held back screamed out in terror. The kids were crying and weren't paying attention. John then ran to the second floor and jumped out the window back first taking the damage from the glass and landing on his back protecting the kids. A paramedic then ran up as the mother grabbed her kids. John was luckily unharmed by the fall and got up and ran off. He ran down a dark alley and dropped the clothes except the helmet. He then ported to his dorm room placing the helmet under his bed. John then ported one last time walking out of the dorm down the street again.

Same predicament... She couldn't mean... Mary Jane thought. She decided to be nanchalant about the matter, and maybe do a bit of lying. Who knew if this girl actually did have powers like Mary Jane. "Powers? Like superheroes? Those kinds of powers?" She gave a laugh that sounded real enough. "I think you might have me mistaken for someone else." There's no way she's believing this act. Augusta had mixed feeling about this guy. She knew the power were dangerous, and the people who used them sometimes even more so. But if you used correctly, they could benefit humanity more than hurt it. Looking around to make sure no one was around she appeared. She followed him and witnessed him save all those people. After his final teleport down to the street again, she walked side by side with him again. "Your right. I'm sorry. I really wish I could've helped, but my power couldn't have done much. You take much more caution than others." she said, in a remorseful tone.

Patricia looked away.

"I don't know I guess.... Look I'm sorry to have bothered you, I just thought I could finally find someone to relate to," She looked away. "I have no where else to go." She began to walk away. "I'm sorry to have bothered you."

She secretly hoped that Mary Jane would stop her and admit she had some sort of powers, but to her that was just wishful thinking.

John looked her over as they walked and he stopped. He was happy to see she wasn't always invisible. "Well actually yours would come in handy in a different situation. Like see I'm not fireproof but I was able to pop in and out quickly. With you, we could get you to stop a robbery or save hostages. I actually have an idea of how you can help me. But it would cause for a little bit of illegal options." John held out something that looked like a thumbtack but not more technical looking. "I can get you inside the dispatchers office but I can't stick this into the radios. I can transport you in and out. This thing will shoot a broadcasting to my phone patching me into the police scanners. So I can handle the crime in this city which you know is bad." John said hoping she'd help "Want to help?"

Makenna peeked outside the wearhouse door, making sure no cops were around. 'I am a wanted lunatic.' she thought to herself. She chuckled at the thought and walked outside. She took in a deep breath and started walking. She heard people talking, but couldn't make put what they were saying. Since her powers couldn't be detected, she opened her mind to the two.

"... So I can handle that crime in this city which you know is bad. Want to help?" she heard the boy say. She frowned. 'What are they talking about?' she wondered. She walked a bit faster, trying to catch up to them.

Mary Jane watched the girl as she started leaving. She felt bad about lying. Mostly because she could relate to the girl, wanting someone to accept them.

Mary Jane stood up from the bench and caught up with the girl. She kept her voice low, so no one else could hear. "... So you're like me? I didn't think there were quite so many people with powers." She felt better about telling her the truth. Lying may be a small thing to some people, but it usually weighed on her conscience too much. And she had enough to worry about.

Patricia smiled.

"So, what is it that you can do?" She asked gleefully, overjoyed that she may have found someone like her. "I mean, you know, if you don't mind me asking."

"It's fine to ask, don't worry." Mary Jane assured her, but didn't give a friendly smile or anything. It not that she wasn't thrilled to meet someone like her, but she just never smiled much. "My power is telekinesis. I can move things with my mind."

Mary Jane looked over and saw a baseball near them. To demosntrate her powers, she made it float in the air, then sent it flying, all without touching it. "See? So, what is it that you can do?"

Patricia was in awe.

"Wow, that's so cool! I don't have a name for my power, but I think I can show you." She picked up the baseball. "Ok, watch." She threw the ball in the air and flicked her hands at the ball. It froze in the air.

"See, I can kind of freeze- Hello?" Patricia had also frozen Mary Jane. "Oops, guess I can't show you, you aren't even conscious when frozen, it's like nothing happened. I'm kind of talkin to myself, here I'll unfreeze you." She flicked her hands at Mary Jane, but it blew her back.

"Oops! I'm sorry, I'm still trying to get control of using both of my powers..."

(Going to be gone for awhile. Just notifying you. Someone can control my character if she's needed.)

 

Augusta thought about his offer. There didn't seem to be a downside to it. She had seen him use the power. There was the constant threat of exposure, but he had defeated that point. Taking a deep breath, she spoke. "Alright, I'll do it."

Makenna searched with her mind, trying to see what they were talking about. She then got a strong thought from near the park ahead. She concentrated and found that two people were using their powers. 'Wow, one that can move objects, and the other... Woah. Don't even know how to describe that.' she thought. She glanced at the two in front of her. She shrugged and and ran ahead if them, towards the other two.

She finally got there and walked right up to the two. She walked behind the one named... 'Patricia' just in time to see her fling 'Mary Jane' across the yard. "Wow, nice powers Patricia!" she said, letting her know she was there. She then looked over at Mary and yelled, "You okay Mary Jane?"

Mary Jane picked herself up off the ground. "What the heck was that...?" she asked Patricia. "And who are you?" she asked the girl who had just come over to them. "And how do you know my name?" She was starting to get annoyed by all of these people. She wasn't usually very social.

Makenna read Mary's mind real quick. "Oh, well sorry Mary Jane. I don't mean to annoy you." she said grinning. She leaned casually against a tree and started messing with her finger nails.

"Mary Jane, that's your name. I guess the best way to describe my power is I can freeze atoms, although you didn't get to see that, and I can accelerate atoms, hence you being blown back, sorry for that. I wonder if I can unfreeze certain things while keeping other things frozen. I mean, I can't freeze the entire world, only a certain amount of area...." She looked to Makenna. "Oh I'm sorry, I'm just blabbing on. What's your name?"

"What?" Mary Jane said, interrupting Patricia. "How did you--" she cut herself off. This girl seemed like she was reading her thoughts. It could only be possible one way. "Wait... You have powers too, don't you."

'This is the fourth one I've met today! What gives?' she thought to herself.

Makenna smiled evilly and hopped away from the tree. "The fourth one today huh? That's impressive." she said, knowing it got on her nerves. She laid down on the grass. Avoiding answering the question, "Stars are out tonight." she said.

Patrcia smiled.

'It feels so good to have finally met other people like me' she thought.

She looked to Makenna and Mary Jane.

"So, when did you guys first get your... Abilities?" Patricia asked.

Makenna scoffed. "Abilities? Besides being able to completely annoy someone," she looked at Mary Jane. "I never said I had any 'Abilities'." she closed her eyes, as if relaxing, but deep down, she was enjoying being able to annoy them.

The girl just confirmed Mary Jane's suspicions. She sighed, annoyed. "Look, we both know that you're a telephath." she said, trying to hide her anger rising. "And you need to stay out of my mind. I'm am being absolutely serious. If you do not stay away I swear you will regret it deeply." she said, glaring at the girl.

Mary Jane turned to Patricia. "And you. I don't have to answer your question." she said, slightly less harsh, and started to walk away.

Makenna got up and searched Mary's brain. She grinned. "She got her abilities the same day you did Patricia. The day of the meteor shower!" Mary stopped in her tracks. Makenna crossed her arms. 'I'll be able to see everything before you do it.' She laughed at Mary. "Face it. I'm telepathic. You can't hide anything from me."

Mary Jane stopped and turned back towards the girl. "I told you..." she said, her anger about to ge the better of her, "... Stay out of my mind!" She was practically screaming. She extended both arms forward and started using her telekinesis on the girl. It was nothing visible from the outside, but Mary Jane was putting pressure on the girl's lungs and heart. It was enough to be extremely painful, but if she were to go any further, the girl could die.

Mary Jane walked more towards the girl and looked her in the eyes. "Leave me alone."

"Can't... Help it..." Makenna managed. She knew she could control her telepathy extremely well, but didn't want Mary to know that. 'Shes goin to kill me' she thought. She tried not to let any pain show, but slipped and winced slightly. She recovered quickly and continued to stare her down.

Mary Jane glared at her. "Then just stay away from me." she said. She released her hold on the girl. "Do you understand?" Mary Jane asked, just to make herself perfectly clear.

She gave the girl one last look and then went back over to the park bench she had been sitting in earlier. 'You had better not be reading my mind right now.' she thought, just to see if the girl would actually respond.
