HarLea Quinn 26,501 Posted July 22, 2012 It looks like the police made a massive mistake by not announcing themselves when knocking in the middle of the night which is why the guy answered holding a gun -probably for protection .( you dont know who might be knocking at that time of night and why ) Such a shame someone died bc of this even if the police thought it was self defense. I can see how the mistake happened but it doesnt justify it .At the same time , if they came looking for a suspect they probably didnt WANT to announce themselves for a reason . Miku Hatsune 636 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) "It's just a bizarre set of circumstances. The bottom line is, you point a gun at a deputy sheriff or police office, you're going to get shot," Is this guy a firetrucking idiot or what? The victim didn't know who was there, that's why he had a gun. Why would you blame it on him when you didn't even identify yourselves as the police? These guys have to face it; they did something wrong. But they're pinning it on the guy they shot, making it look like he was the bad guy. Just goes to show that people can't even own up to their responsibilities these days. I see what you mean, but I don't think he meant it like that. I'm pretty sure he just meant that's what was to be expected. If a gun is pointed at a deputy they're going to have to react. Not to say that the guy was at fault, but that once it happened there was no avoiding it. 1 Xail reacted to this

burnsideking24 256 Posted July 22, 2012 I read this a week ago so I could use it for my current event homework. I honestly think that the cops should have announced their identities. Sure, if he was the actual suspect, he might've tried to run if they announced that they were the police, but if he would've done that, that would mean he was the right guy. One should not bust down someone else's door and not identify yourself and expect that the person inside is gonna know that you're a cop at that hour and think you're just a burglar or a murderer out to get them. They probably also should've looked at the address once more before breaking down his door..

I'm not saying it's his fault, honestly I think there was some fault on both ends, mostly the officers. 1 Xail reacted to this
Supdudes 53 Posted July 22, 2012 If the officers who shot the guy really believe they're innocent then they would have already shown their faces to the press.
Amon 4,279 Posted July 29, 2012 Victim was asshole for answering door with gun in his hand. Police were assholes for shooting on sight. Case closed. 1 Queen Tery reacted to this
