Hey everyone. :D In case you're not aware what an AMA is, it stands for "ask me anything", and originates from Reddit (I think). Basically, you have the chance to ask me anything you want, and I have to answer. Aaron did one before (Aaron is the co-owner of KH13), so I figured it's my turn... plus, I'm bored. :P So yeah, ask me anything.

 

If you don't know me, let me introduce myself.

I'm DChiuch, the owner, founder and current webmaster of KH13.com.

I'll answer anything, but please hold back on the joke questions because I can't promise any creative replies! I'd prefer serious questions. :)

Yup. I'm on mid-semester break at the moment, and I don't have a job either. This basically means that, a lot of days, I have absolutely no commitments at all. And, naturally, I seem to want to stay up all night and then sleep for most of the day. When I don't have anything on the next day to force me to get up early (and hence force me to sleep early), then for some reason I want to stay up as long as I can. I think it has something to do with me wanting to get more and more things done, or alternatively, maybe I'm just addicted to the internet and find difficulty in leaving it when I don't have to.

 

What does KH13 mean to you?

 

KH13 is perhaps one of the most important things to me. Since I started it in 2008, it's been a major focus of my life. Something that's important to me is becoming successful in life, and by "successful" I mean creating something that is used a lot / has a lot of value. I want to be a successful entrepreneur, basically. KH13 is the best thing I've ever created. I'm amazed that I'm mostly responsible for the creation of such a large community (a website that gets 10,000 visits and 50,000 pageviews a day, that has a very friendly and active forum with over 700,000 posts-- and still growing!), and it's really important to me to grow this even further. KH13 is what I spend most of my day on (not saying that I don't have a life outside of it, I do have a social life, and I do well academically-- it's just that instead of consuming lots of TV shows, video games, other entertainment etc, like most people my age do, I instead spend all of my free time working on KH13).

(not sure if you answered this already but) What gave you the idea to create KH13?
My YouTube channel, where I posted Kingdom Hearts AMVs had a modest amount of popularity at the time (I think maybe 300k views in total?), and I thought hmm, the current sources of KH cutscenes are pretty bad. I think I could do a lot better, I should create a KH website and share cutscenes. I was also inspired by the person who originally extracted the secret ending of KH2FM. But yeah, I basically wanted to improve on the current KH websites, and thought I could do so (and was right, clearly :tongue:).

Why aren't you a YouTube partner?
There's a few reasons: I don't see the point, it wouldn't really benefit KH13. I don't own the copyright of my videos, and I don't really want to draw YouTube's attention to that-- I think they care more if a partnered user gets a copyright strike, compared to a normal user. Lastly, you need a certain amount of views per video, and since we upload 1000s of cutscenes, we get a pretty bad ratio. But it's mostly because of reason #1.

 

How much are interested in the KH Series? Is the creation of KH13.com the result of that interest? :smile:
Before I started KH13.com, the KH series was perhaps my favourite series of video games. Since starting it, I've lost interest in the series, and gaming altogether. I don't think that I would still play KH if it wasn't for KH13, but I do think that I would read about it and watch some of the cutscenes (I wonder who would provide them? :tongue:) So yeah, my answer is that I used to a lot, but I don't spend much/any time gaming anymore.

 

How do you post news so fast!? Are you available 24/7? lol
Most of this can be attributed to Twitter on my smartphone. Pretty much from the moment I wake up, to when I go to bed at night, I have my phone with me, and I get notified when someone posts something new on Twitter. I also have to thank Sora96, Lu Xun and Oishii for assisting me with this in the hours when I'm asleep. But yeah, Twitter.

You're just like me when I had problems last year. I sleep during the day and work during the night. Ironically its 3:26AM here now. So yeah, I know how it feels. =/

Do you miss the old days, DC? Like back when we were on MyBB with less members but a closer community.

 

I would say we're closer today than we were back then. Since then, we've had a lot of improvements such as the status updates, friend system, and an improved Cometchat. These things allow members to be closer than they were able to before.

I dunno, why are all secretaries female? They're generally seen as more friendly, and less intimidating (which is important because their job is to deal with the members. And yes, this is a stereotype, shoot me). And for sexy harem-related reasons, of course. (:

No, I don't think so. At worst, I would expand into other things (maybe a general video game website like IGN?), and maybe re-allocate some of my tasks such as news posting to other people (remember, these are just maybes, years down the track!), but I'd never completely "move on", I always want to be at the top of KH13 and calling all the shots.
