Ok. First off. Rumours say that there were successors for the keyblades. Correct me if Im wrong but:

Aqua ~ Stuck in Dark Realm ~ No Successor

Ven ~ Part of Sora's Heart ~ Sora as Successor

Terra ~ Riku is the only one left over ~ Riku as Successor

 

Second, MX took control of Terra's body plus Terra still had control, partially, over his own body PLUS he said he still had control over Eraqus' heart. Sooooo........if Terra/Xehanort lost his heart and became a heartless (Ansem) and a nobody (Xemnas) Then where did Terra, Eraqus, AND MX go? Kingdom Hearts? And Terra/Xehanort lost his memories then why did his heartless know pretty much everything about Kingdom Hearts and Xemnas was still trying to remember?

 

Last, I have a hard time believing anything but the fact that the Guardian has to be whatever's left of Terra. If the Guardian isn't Terra then it at least has to be Terra's darkness. The first time we see the guardian is AFTER MX takes control of Terra, then with Terra/Xehanort's heartless, then with riku. Too coincidental in my opinion.

About the Terra/Xehanort thing:

When both the heartles and the nobody are destroyed, a person goes back to being whole. So when Ansem and Xemnas we're eliminated: Terra (and probably Xehanort too) were back to whole (SPOILER: Thats why in the secret ending you see Terra with Ven, 12 years later.) Which brings me to the next point: When Sora released his heart to save Kairi, he released Ven's heart, causing Ven's heart to go back to his body in Castle Oblivion. (SPOILER: Thats why in the secret ending you see Ven with Terra.)

Ok first of all, Terranort didn't have memories when he was recovered by Ansem the Wise and Braig. After experimenting on hearts alongside Ansem the Wise, he began to regain some memories of when he was Xehanort (regarding claiming Kingdom Hearts for himself). Thus he became a heartless and forming his nobody. [His heartless and nobody had different motives, BUT WE'RE DIRECTED TO Kingdom Hearts in order to achieve their aspirations] Xehanort's Heartless sought Kingdom Hearts in order to envelop the worlds in darkness. Xemnas knew about his plan about retrieving Kingdom Hearts... HOWEVER, for the purpose to become a full bodied Terranort again, OBVIOUSLY since Nobodies are incomplete.

 

Lastly, the reason we see "The Guardian" with Terranort is because it's technically his [Terra's] hidden power (seeing as how he happened to merge while fighting Aqua as he abandoned using the keyblade). you are also correct in mentioning him partnering with Xehanort's heartless. HOWEVER, the reason the guardian was partnered up WITH RIKU is because Xehanort's dark powers still resonated in Riku (source: KH:COM n Re:COM) when he fought Roxas.

Makes perfect sense. I just thought that since there was a conection between the guardian and xehanort leading to a connection to riku that maybe terra was all three of their connections. But why do people say Terra "chose" riku for the key blade?

Because in Destinys Island Terra saw a strange man then KH II Riku when he was staring at Riku. Terra then summoned his keyblade and let Riku hold it. Thus, Riku is Terras Succesor.
