Loki 1,184 Posted June 22, 2012 I agree with you that it isnt really a move that makes sense. A universal release that is within the same week would make more sense. But it may not have been practically possible. America has the game and the collectors box to distribute. Not only will they have to manufacture all the items for the collectors box (which is selling more than they can make), but they also have to print more game cartridges since America does have higher sales. That will take more time to prepare than Europe who just get AR cards and already-in-print keychains. In the end, though, it is a better idea business wise because the collectors edition will bring in more money.

Xer 670 Posted June 22, 2012 I'm not talking from a personal perspective here, I'm talking business. The first KH sold 3.6 million units in North America, 1.2 million in Europe KH2 sold 2.2 million units in NA. 0.6 million in Europe Days sold 1 million in NA, 0.2 million in Europe Re:Coded sold 0.4 million in NA, 0.06 is Europe And Birth by Sleep sold half a million, Europe sold a third of a million. It costs more money to localize for Europe, because it requires additional languages. Languages that Square Enix are pointedly ignoring for DDD. So on a purely logical, sales based basis, Dream Drop Distance should be released in North America first, a place that only requires an English localization, and has the highest KH sales bar Japan (Even then, KH has sold better in NA than Japan a few times) Beyond even THAT, currently there have been slightly more 3DS sales in North America than in Japan, and quite a few more than in the REST of the world. So basically, if you do the math, Square Enix had a choice between something that had consistent high sales, a relatively low cost of translation, and the largest amount of people who own the system they are producing for, or Europe. Honestly, I don't see why they couldn't just have a universal release date, they're so close together as is. But seriously, what the logic? America isnt best than europe so deal with it... scarletskylines 1 Posted June 22, 2012 As someone who's been a fan of the series since 2004 it has always been frustrating to not get the games first, it's been a big demotivator over here to actually buy the games since by the time it gets here it's completely spoilt and people have seen all the gameplay and so there's no real need to buy the game unless you're a big fan. Probably at least half of the reason it doesn't do as well over here. And don't say that we could avoid getting spoilt, I mean 11 days is nothing in comparison to 6 months wait like we had for KH2! Besides, you get the collectors edition so the money they might lose from bringing it out here first they make up for by charging all you devoted fans in NA more for that particular edition. (I'm still jealous though) 1 Nikolasvanitas reacted to this

Rob 5,571 Posted June 22, 2012 (edited) Knowing that this is Square Enix, it was bound to happen eventually. Companies make bad business decisions. It happens. Edited June 22, 2012 by Rob
AntonioKHT 449 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) I don't see the problem of getting 11 days later, it's such a small difference... People who want to spoil themselves already did with the japanese version... Also, it least you KNOW when it's gonna be released, I have no clue when it will get to Brasil (hate to live here sometimes...) But anyways, just let it go, they won't change the release date just the please North America. Another thing, I don't think Square is putting too much faith on KH3D, since they're not making in some languages in Europe... DarknessOrLight 32 Posted June 24, 2012 I think it should have a universal release, not just with North America and Europe, but also with Japan. Well actually that may no be possible since the Japanese version is in Japanese...

Setrex 1,031 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) For some reason I find it very hard to believe that Kh2 only sold 600k, Days only sold 200k and Re:coded only sold 60k units (ok maybe not that much more than 60k but still ) across all of Europe (though it isn't localized in every country across Europe, so remember why it sells much more in America, also hello Disney?). I was under the impression that KH2 had at least sold 1m units here. But whatever, everyone gets the game so be happy jeez the amount of times we got screwed over in the past. Once the game is out everywhere all will be forgotten about the silly release dates regardless. Edited June 26, 2012 by KHSoraKeyBlade

Mila 37 Posted June 26, 2012 some years ago we in Europe had to wait MONTHS after the NA realease today there're are only few days...but I think a few days are not the problem (NA get games on tuesdays, Europe on fridays) and universal releases ARE possible look at Lollipop Chainsaw, Tekken and even Final Fantasy XIII-2 had only ~1 month difference between Japan and NA/EU release but this is only possible when localization begins during developement
Sammi 63 Posted June 26, 2012 I don't know why Square Enix is releasing KH:3D in Europe earlier than in the States either, but I shan't complain. Despite that I live in the UK, I've pre-ordered the Mark Of Mastery Edition (I'm a collector) - so I will feel empathy for those who live in the States, seeing as I'll have to wait for the MOM edition to arrive.
