KH1 Donald freaking duck.

Okay, this is just personal opinion. But I wanted to see if anyone else agreed.

 

Does anyone feel like Donald is basically dead weight during pretty much the whole beginning half of the game? I mean really, when I played Kingdom Hearts I felt like Donald was all but useless except when it came to having him be bait for the heartless (the perfect distraction I swear ) or when he actually HIT something with magic.

 

I honestly feel like he didn't become useful until he learned some stronger forms of magic and Cure. Then I was like "DONALD! I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE SO USEFUL NOW!"

 

Long story short, did Donald only become useful towards the very end of the game or do you think he had his moments throughout?

It is not donald's fault!! Blame the bad AI! lol But yeah, they were a mere distraction to me at first but Donald has pretty nasty magic especially thundaga which pretty much clear the enemy for me.

Donald and Goofy are good for some supplementary damage, but that's about it. Donald beats Goofy because Cure.

I think he was important during the beginning cutscenes and not so much on attacks until he leveled up more and gained more moves. But if it hadnt been for his openinh scenes where he runs screaming to Goofy and waking him up with thunder, I wouldnt have become interested in Kingdom Hearts the way I did.

Not to mention going up against bosses at the beginning and keep hearing his annoying sigh when he gets knocked out. Goofy can at least hit someone and take a few hits, unlike Donald

Sadly I kind of have to agree with you. He really only became helpful when he learned cure. I wouldn't say Donald was dead weight though. Even though he may have not survived for very long at first, he did cause a small amount of damage to your enemies. Plus he always seemed a to add a little bit of humor to the story line.

I agree, Goofy was always my preferred partner (except when I fought the boss Heartless Luxord sent to take out Port Royal) he could actually help. Can't say I didn't miss both of them in the games at the Colosseum though when I was alone.

I KNOW! For me it felt like every two minutes I would hear that little annoying noise. Hence, my thoughts of how useless he is began. Goofy became my favorite fighting buddy after that lol

Yeah, I missed them there to. Goofy's MP Gift is dead useful, especially when he gives it to Donald. Plus unlike in Kingdom Hearts II Donald learns exactly the same Magic as Sora even their animations and level.

FALSE! I would always give Goofy some potions because he would actually heal me before Donald had the breath to yell "Soooorrraaaaaa!" and heal me with his staff. And when Donald did heal me--I didn't need to be healed. It was useless.

Although if you were in a seriously protracted fight Goofy would run out of items relatively fast like the first few minutes but Donald could keep casting Cure and with MP Gift off Goofy and MP Rage for Donald you're sorted

I tried not to replace him (no matter HOW much I wanted to) because I was afraid if I didn't attempt to level him up in any way he would only be even more pathetic in the worlds to come.

It's true. It's not until later in the game when they became useful. I also found you could customize the way they fight, so then they actually became really useful!
