Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Recommended Posts

Riku looked to the door immediately, eyes hardening significantly when he saw Sora again. You idiot, he wanted to scold. His plans of telling Kairi were a bust, considering she followed Sora in. And then Roxas and Namine, Ventus and Aqua, and Serah too. Riku glanced back at Lightning then, wondering if that was why she moved away so suddenly. Serah was here. Or was it that she didn't want anyone to see them so close?

Namine walked in after Kairi, eyes widening when she saw the massive screen against the wall. A movie room? she wondered in silence. It was amazing! And there was a snack bar, too!

"Lightning, why'd you start the movie without us?" Serah scolded, walking over and picking up one of the cookies off the plate. "You know how much I love The Avengers!" Even if she was a girly-girl, she too loved the superhero movies.

"Bean bags!" Ven cheered, plopping down into one and facing the screen. He was sure the movie was great, but he was actually more excited about the chair, since he always wanted one.

"It's a party now," Sora smirked, stopping next to Riku and looking down at him. Riku really should have invited all of them if they were going to watch a movie; these days, everyone did everything together.

Riku sighed, looking from Sora to Lightning. Sorry, he silently apologized. This wasn't exactly what he had planned. He had hoped for the affection and romance, but not the invasion. Kairi grabbed one of the many bowls of candy around their chair and took it to her own, giggling at some humor in the movie. Well, this date was officially over.

Roxas turned around from the snack station, a bag of Twizzlers in his grasp. Now where to sit... he thought, eyeing the room. Riku and Lightning took one, Sora and Kairi another, then Serah sprawled out on the floor by her sister. Aqua had her own and so did Ven...There was only one chair left, and there were two people left standing: him and Namine.

Namine grabbed a small plate of goodies for herself, and when she turned around, she noticed the same thing Roxas did: there was only one chair vacant. She looked to the boy she stood next to, not sure what to do as a blush crept into her cheeks. Maybe...we'll share, she thought, both nervously and hopefully.

Roxas looked over at Namine, blinking when he thought he saw a blush on her cheeks. "Um. You can take it, if you want," he automatically offered, lifting a hand to rub the back of his head. He could just sit on the floor and prop himself up against a wall; he was more concerned that Namine was comfortable.

Namine gazed at Roxas for a moment, taking in his words and his actions. He was nervous just like she was, wasn't he? Kairi told her earlier this afternoon, after she and Roxas talked by the pool, that she caught Roxas staring at Namine. The blonde figured for a long time now that Roxas held some feelings for her, because they were returned, but...Kairi confirmed it. "...Sit with me," she requested softly, not speaking much louder than the movie due to their friends being in the room and their close proximity. Namine wanted to share the seat...if that was alright.

Roxas blinked again in surprise. Did he really hear that, or was he making things up? Naturally he wanted to hear that, but judging by Namine's face, it really was what she said. "Okay," he said, keeping his voice quiet both because of the subject and because of the movie. "Here, let me hold that for you." Getting into beanbag chairs was hard to do with things in your hands, so if either of them were going to spill something, he hoped it was himself.

Namine smiled faintly and let Roxas take her plate from her. "Thank you," she whispered, but then she moved to the last available seat in the room. She sat herself down on one side, leaving room for Roxas. She noticed now, however, how close they were going to be. Just the realization had her heart racing.

Roxas too noticed how close they would be sitting; the chairs may have been large, but beanbags had a way of shoving all of its occupants together. Nevertheless, he carefully lowered himself down next to Namine and tried to give her some room as well, though once he was fully settled, they were in close contact. "Sorry," he laughed nervously, earning a "shush" from Sora.

Namine glanced from Roxas to Sora at the hushed order, giggling because of both boys. "It's okay," she told him quietly, smiling as she accepted her plate back from him. Their legs and arms were touching, though this hadn't been the closest contact they had ever had; that day in the training room was much closer.

Roxas smiled faintly at Namine's calmness, finding something different about her tonight. He expected her to be totally opposed to sharing a seat with him just because he seemed to overwhelm her earlier. That was what happened, right? He complimented her too much and she got embarrassed. But even then, he told her he wouldn't stop making her feel special. He was going to live up to that promise even now. He quietly opened up the pack of twizzlers, offering them to Namine before even taking his own.

Namine's smile softened as she looked from the bag to the blue-eyed boy beside her. She wordlessly reached into the bag and accepted a twizzler before taking a bite, her eyes returning to Roxas. Something was happening, wasn't it? Between them...

Roxas's eyes automatically caught onto Namine's, but he refrained from staring. He offered her a weak smile before his eyes went to the screen and the scene taking place, his hand wandering into his bag to get the snack. He ate it mindlessly, mostly confused about Namine's change.

As the movie played on, Namine couldn't really focus. Her thoughts were mostly on the person sharing her seat. Roxas was...different than before. It was subtle, but Namine paid attention to detail, even in people. He knew something was new with her, didn't he? Kairi talked Namine into being more confident with her thoughts and feelings, especially about Roxas. She hoped it was doing her some good.

Take a chance. What's the worst than can happen? Roxas asked himself for the tenth time. However, it was this time that he listened to himself. He carefully pulled on the arm that was closest to Namine, careful not to hit her on the head as he put it behind her on the beanbag. It was just behind her, not on her shoulders. But if she wanted it to be, it could be an invitation to come closer. He doubted she'd accept that invite though....

Namine felt her cheeks heat instantly, her heart beginning to race again. He did it... Roxas put his arm behind her. But it was just behind her, right? It didn't mean anything...did it? Maybe he just wanted to get more comfortable. They were pretty cramped in this chair, after all. Namine turned her head slightly, looking up at the boy next to her. Was he okay with this?

Oh crap, Roxas thought, looking over at Namine when she looked to him. "Sorry, should I...?" Should I take my arm back? He would if he needed to. But then again, what was the difference in this to how they were before? If anything, this gave them both a little more room.

Namine couldn't help but smile at the question, and the uncertainty in Roxas's eyes. He was adorable... She shook her head. "No," she assured him softly, careful not to speak too loud in fear of interfering with the movie. Not that the film mattered much to her anymore. "...It's okay." This position gave them a little more room, but it also welcomed new possibilities. Could Namine move closer if she wanted? Would that be alright?

Roxas stared at Namine, unable to help it this time. She said this was okay, but... C'mon. What's the worst that could happen? He slowly lowered his arm, setting a hand on Namine's shoulder. "...Is this okay?" he asked then, whispering both due to proximity and avoiding the wrath of others.

Namine's heart leaped at the touch, however light and hesitant it was. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach, and she knew this was how it felt to have a crush accept you. She tensed slightly at the touch at first, but then she relaxed. It's Roxas, she told herself in silence. He's one of your closest friends....and possibly more. She was comfortable with him before all of this. Why did his attempts have to change anything? "Mm," she hummed faintly, eyes darting from Roxas's eyes to his chest. This was okay.

Roxas looked at Namine's eyes, still not quite sure how to decipher them. "Are you sure?" he checked softly. He didn't have to do this. He could pull back his arm and give her some more room--he could sit on the floor if she wanted him to. This was really fast paced for Namine. It wasn't for him, considering how much he was building up to this, but for her to accept it so quickly...

"Yes," Namine replied quietly. She was okay with this. It was just her nerves... She'd never been like this before, with anyone. Roxas was the first. What, did she come off as awkward? Or...scared? She was nervous, sure, but that was normal...wasn't it?

Roxas nodded faintly after a moment. "Alright," he said quietly, meeting Namine's eyes with a gentle gaze. If she was sure that she wanted this, then he'd gladly stay. He was moving slowly in his pursuit of her mostly because she seemed hesitant to jump into anything with him, but there was a goal he needed to fulfill too. He had to find a way to be stronger.

Namine couldn't help but blush...and smile. Roxas was being a bit protective for her sake, but his consideration was flattering. He was definitely the boy she met in Twilight Town years ago, not the one she created when she fumbled with his chains of memory. This was a good guy worthy of happiness. She wondered if she had a part to play in that.
