KHDays Was Xion an afterthought...?

Recommended Posts

Even if she was an afterthought, I think that she highly contributed to the series! From her we got a more emotional story from Roxas and Axel, she adds more complication to Sora's iinternal struggle, she is what gave us dual wielding...and most importantly, she gave us fans a moment where we finally felt something! i know that there are sad moments in the series, but this was the first one that every fan had their heart torn apart! Xion is what really opened the door into this emotional place that BBS and DDD use. I personally feel that Xion is the most well thought out and greatest afterthought that a videogame has ever had!

If you ask me, I don't think Xion was well thought out. Just because someone happens to like something doesn't mean it was well thought out. I like Batman and Robin, and we all know that wasn't well thought out. I like Power Rangers, and that's definitely not well thought out. I say this because while Xion might have seemed like a good idea on paper, there's something about the execution of Days that seemed wrong. I didn't notice this until I realized that Nomura was trying too hard to create a sympathetic character, but it came off as manipulative. I don't play shooting games, and I don't know anything about the story of Gears of War, but when my brother showed me this scene from GoW3, I almost teared up. Hell, I almost teared up again just embedding this video.

You can tell Nomura tried to do the same thing with Xion, but it didn't work because there was no need for Xion to be created. After playing KH2, there was no story element or plot point that need to be explained by creating Xion for Days. Then there's the fact that everyone had to forget Xion to explain why she wasn't mentioned in KH2. Character development is about putting characters in a situation and having their choices show us something about them. If everyone forgets Xion, why should I care about anyone? Now Xion's death doesn't have have the same effect that Dom's death had, and KH IS a series that I care about. It's kind of a shame.

Despite this, I can see why Days mean a lot to people, and I don't want to come off as mean or condescending. This is all just a matter of opinion. All I'm saying is, in my opinion, Days was definitely not well thought out, and I hope Nomura does something in a future game to validate her existence.

Most likely, yeah.

Btw I have never understood why people like gay pairings so much...

I'd assume for the same reasons that people like straight pairings.

Or their just trolling

Afterthought or not she is my favorite character that can relate to me somewhat

You're a puppet created from the memories of the body of one person and the broken heart of another who absorbs power from said entity and was forgotten?

The majority of the games leave holes or very open plot lines where anything new can happen in the next installment that no one saw coming, like Xion.

Same way we all thought Sora was got the keyblade cause Riku gave into the darkness, then we find out he's got Ventus inside him which shaped his mannerisms.

Wonder if Ven is as dimwitted as Sora now having lived in him....

Most likely, yeah.

Same...I understand finding a naturally gay pairing adorable in how they're comfortable to show the world their love, but when people piece two clearly straight people together cause they're friends, it's just like..why?

There have been three self-contained games in the Kingdom Hearts series thus far Kingdom Hearts (obviously), Birth by Sleep (excluding the final cut-scene), and Days (however it would be one of the most depressing games in existence then). However future titles depend on the events that happened there. Both Birth by Sleep and DAys introduced new plot points that would be of greater importance as the series progressed. Birth by Sleep introduces us to 5 new Keyblade wielders, one of whom is our main antagonist throughout the series, and three of whom need to be rescued. Days shows us the Organization members as more than our simple antagonists who we have to fight, explains Axel's actions, and shows character dynamics, particularly between Axel and Saïx (which if our dramatic revelation as to him working for Xehanort are any sign, means Axel's going to have Drama. Oh. Yay.), and again, introduces us to a new keyblade wielder. Our lost comrades are the subject of coded, lead into 3Ds, and will no doubt be driving points for at least the start of the next game in the series. Xion wasn't an afterthought, but in Kingdom Hearts II, with everyone making comments as to Sora/Roxas, and vague references to the events of Days it would have been ever so much mre confusing if we had them commenting about some girl the players had not met, had no knowledge of, and the only way to have made it possible would have been to...

Extend the week-long prologue so Roxas can fill us in

Have Axel appear to Sora and explain in a concise manner exactly what happened

Have one of the Organization members do this, but with less information

Any character whose lifespan existed only in Days could not have effectively been discussed, there are no mentions of the Castle Oblivion crew for similar reasons, it's not the Organization's job to give Sora a biography on their life, it's their job to get him to hit things with his keyblade.

I think goldplanner said it perfectly:

to the protagonists, 'she's' a flawless un-hatable Sue in the game-verse. As a real person looking at her as a character that was created by someone, I think she's a mark of terrible writing. Whether you like 'her' or not isn't the question, it's whether you care about bad writing or not.

I personally don't dislike her in the game, but the reality is that days is not a self contained game and in the scheme of things, she contributes a miniscule amount aside from answering questions already answered.

and also:

tutti frutti. Xion is only just a dream.

I actually was making a serious theory on that with DDD info.
