Riku lost his heart to darkness, so why didn't he get a Nobody? I think the common answer is that you have to become a Heartless in order to get a Nobody, and he never became a Heartless. But that's not true -- Kairi had a Nobody and she never became a Heartless...

 

Also when Sora became a Heartless, why was he a Shadow? I mean Xehanort's Heartless was completely distinct from all other Heartless... why did Sora just take the form of a generic Heartless, and the lowest form at that?

I think the second Saga of the Kingdom Hearts series might have Riku's Nobody as the main, primary antagonist of that series and that unanswered questions to these kinds of riddles we have maybe solved in a Kingdom Hearts IV maybe.

and Riku didn't become a heartless because he didn't lose his heart, he just gave in to the darkness, making him evil-ish.

its like terra, who technically gave in to the darkness, but didn't become a heartless, because he didn't lose his heart.

 

and for sora... ummm don't really know about that. but i do know his heartless does evolve to some HUGE HEARTLESS that resembles the Darkside ( i think thats the heartless' name) so i think Xehanort's heartless evolved during BBS

Princess of Hearts doesnt have darkness in their heart so they cant produce heartless. But they are capable to produce nobodies becuz they have strong hearts. In their case y dont need heartless

But Xion isn't a nobody she's just a replica created by Vexen, thats why she doesn't have a heartless, she's basically just memories. But since when does this have to do with Xion? It doesn't really ._.

Sora became a little shadow because he has little to almost no darkness in his heart but on the other hand his nobody is really powerful because of his strong heart aaand.... Well a few other reasons you might find out if you keep playing the series. I wouldn't want to spoil anything!

 

Kairi is a princess of light thus she has no darkness at all and no heartless was created but there is a nobody though and a really special one at that.

 

Riku never lost his heart or was never slain by anyone so he hasn't lost his body/heart. He just uses the darkness inside him as his source of power. And well

Sora took the form of a Shadow, the lowest form of all Heartless because he had so little darkness in his heart. If he had a lot, he'd take the form of a giant Heartless.

Riku didn't lost his hearts, he had given in to the darkness. Kairi lost his heart. I don't know why she didn't became a heartless, but that's wht Naminé was created. But why Sora became just a Shadow, I don't know and also doesn't agreed. He should have become something more special.

Yes Riku did lose his heart to darkness but the reason why he didn't have a nobody is because he didn't have a strong heart at time. As Yensid said in Kingdom Hearts 2, you need to have a strong heart, whether evil or good, in order to have a Nobody.

 

The reason why Kairi didn't turn into a Heartless is because she did not have darkness in here heart. In order to make a Heartless, there needs to be darkness in the persons heart.

 

And the reason why Sora turned into a Shadow Heartless is because a Shadow is a Pureblood Heartless. Xehanort's Heartless is also a Pureblood Heartless, reason it looked distinct from other Heartless is cause he took Rikus body and changed its form.

I can't answer the Riku thing, but Sora became a shadow because of the small amount of darkness in his heart.

Kairi has a Nobody because her heart was in Sora, and when Sora released it, Namine came. I don't remember the specifics, but it's in one of the secret reports in KH2.
