M-rated games and parents

Recommended Posts

My parents will NOT let me get m rated games. I'm 14, I make good grades in school; in fact, I've consecutively had a 4.0 gpa.

I have NEVER gotten into a fight, I've haven't gotten in trouble at school since I was 10 . I've never cussed . At home, I do a whole lot

chores without complaining, but they still won't let me. Can you guys give me advice on what to do, or what to say in order to get them to

change their minds? Also, please don't post that I should wait until I'm 17 to buy it. Thanks.

Well, since you're 14, you have to deal with it for another year or so, until they think they can trust you to play them.

My parents aren't like that, so I'm not sure how else to go with it. Besides, I'm old enough >8D

That's just sort of how things work, people who are mature enough to handle 'mature content' tend to be the only people law abiding enough to actually withhold from playing/watching them.

Two questions-

What game is it you want, and is it you, or your parents who pay for your games? (Even if you get an allowance, that's still your parents money)

Your parent provide food , clothing , shelter, and support .More than likely they are also paying for the games and consoles you play as well since you are only 14. Therefore you need to respect their wishes . When you can provide all the above for yourself then worry about trivial things such as mature rated games. Sorry to be blunt but thats just how it is . Be glad you get all that bc some kids dont even know when they 'll eat next .

If they're paying for your games, just respect their wishes. Or just have a relative or friend buy them.

DO NOT ASK.

FYI I pay for my own games and consoles and my clothes, I already know how to cook breakfast and lunch food, and I am currently working on cooking dinner.

Also, I'm willing to pay them the money to buy it for me.

Before I got a car/driver's license, I usually asked my mom for games, since my dad always found excuses not to take me. I even rode my bike to GameStop once (took me almost two hours there and back). Just go yourself.

It would be MW3, and I would give them my allowance money which I do chores for.

I'm only 14. Gamestop would want me to have an adult with me.

ive been playing M rated games since I was 5.... and I still get good grades...

lucky you.

Huh, look. I can't play M games either. And I'm doin' perfectly fine with them. Just becasue all the kids at your school (Where I'm almost 100% positive you got the 'Modern Warfare is awesome crap.' I've been allowed to play it before. It sucked in my opinion. Find something better.

I doubt you pay the mortgage , the groceries and the utilities. Cooking has nothing to do with paying for food .Since you are only 14 , do you have a job? If the source of your "own money " is allowance its still coming from your parents . You live under their roof and its their rules . Thats my point .

If you're too immature to respect your parent's wishes and wait until you're old enough to legally purchase them, then you obviously aren't "mature" enough to play "mature" games.

Basically a loaded statement. There's no winning either way.

I can't say I know how you could bypass them. I've always thought people were too rigid about the ratings. Age has nothing to do with perception of reality and emulating guff past about the age of 7. If someone was insane (or stupid) enough to fail at either or both of those things at that point you wouldn't need to tell them not to play it.

You would need them to get a shrink.

Once you start paying rent, Utilites, and groceries then you can start making you own rules. You should count your self lucky you get allowance my mom point blank refused to give me it. She said it would teach me responsibility if I earned it myself. So I went out got myself a cheap lawn mower and started mowing lawns when it snowed I was out there at 5:00 in the morning. Eventually it got to the point where I was making more money then I would have been getting from an allowance. Best part was because it was my own money and I had earned it used it responsibly my mom let me use it for what ever I want. Your parents just want whats best for that there job at the end of the day. If they say no it's for a reason don't take their word for granted because you never know when they won't be around any more.

are you sure you have a 4 GPA? Not to be mean, but seriously. You are only 14 years old. And by the way you are acting, I don't think you should be playing M rated games. My parents are aware of me playing such games, and they trust me because I know when to be mature. Which is when I am playing games such as Call of Duty. And obviously, you should be grateful for parents who do that, because I know people who's parents don't even care. I am probably a slight hypocrite for saying that, considering I myself play M games, but still. Ask yourself this. If you play a M game, you have to be mature enough. So just for now, respect your parents wishes.

So you have a 4.0 GPA and do all of your chores, what does that exactly have to do with your parents not letting you play M rated games?

To me it looks like your parents just care about you. Which makes you lucky because like Aqua7KH said, most parents these days don't give a crap about what their kids play or watch. I'm 15 and have played about 2 or 3 M rated games but I really didn't care for them except for Skyrim. There are plenty of great games that are rated T you can play. If you really want to play some M games, look up some reviews about the games you want to play and then give them to your parents. Have them look into the games and see if those games are decent. And if they still don't let you well then you'll just have to respect their wishes and wait until you're older.

Your GPA and chores has nothing to with it. It's all about whether or not your parents think you're mature enough and if your parents trust you to handle a Mature rated game. I'll telll you, though, that coming on here and complaining does not help your case in trying to prove your maturity.

So instead you should bring it up to them like a reasonable adult, tell them your side, the game you want, any research you've done on it, and then listen respectfully to their side. If they still say you can't have it, then you need to respect that.

well, if you look at it this way, teens nowadays were born in the age of action, whereas after columbine, parents don't let teens play m rated games, just use the excuse that violent and m rated games reduce stress, it's already been proven.

it shouldn't be about winning, it should be about understanding and respecting the parent's wishes.

No, what you said basically gave him no option. It's like saying, "Did you have fun killing people today?"

The first time I played a M game was when I was about five actually... only because me my dad, mom and brothers would play Halo together... good times.

And the first M game I actually owned was last year that I bought myself. It was Call of Duty Black Ops. My mom was slightly agenst it, but she knew I can handle the game. My dad trust me also. Before, my dad let me played Nazi Zombies eighter with him, or online while he watched.

Rikufan, my little sister is ten, and my dad never lets her play Call of Duty eighter without me, or him. Especially when using the mic online or at night. You know why? Because my dad know's that my little sister cannot handle the game. When she used the mic once, she got cursed out by the grown men and she did not know how to respond except with a 'Helloooo?' She is not mature enough to handle games like that. Just like you.

Even me now. My dad does not alow me to play at night with a mic. He said that the older men come out to play at night, and he does not want me to be cursed out or anything. Sure, I protest alittle, but in the end, I respect his wishes. And that is what you should to. If you really want to play these games, prove your mature. Because doing chores has nothing to do with it.
