Am I healthy?

Okay yea yea yea. I don't wanna hear. "Your 12 you can eat whatever you want.'' Or crap like that.

My mother keep saying that I'm getting fat but I'm only 127 pounds. I only gained about 3-4 pounds in the last month.

So am I healthy for my age ?

I'm about 5, 6 to,

So I don't know if i'm healthy for my age and height?

Lulz, I was like 5'6 at 12 too. :'D Tallies<3

That sounds about right. Being taller allows you to be a tad bit heavier, just because there's more of you. 127 sounds perfectly healthy.

I must remind you though, some people can be skinny and out of shape, or a little bigger and in shape. Just something to keep in mind.

Don't you even worry about it 4everbee. You are at a healthy weight for your height, and probably a bit light considering at your age you may still have a little baby weight that still needs to be lost. Just makes sure you get your fruits, veggies, and healthy grains and stay active ;)

I must remind you though, some people can be skinny and out of shape, or a little bigger and in shape. Just something to keep in mind.

 

Thats why although you can use BMI as a rough idea its not as reliable as using your body fat percentage .( Muscle weighs more than fat ) Edited by axel_lea_lives_on

Actually muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. I thought this quote summed it up better than I did though:

Muscle does not weigh more than fat, any more than lead weighs more than feathers. A pound is a pound is a pound.

That's off a personal trainer website, btw. It's the weight, not how much space it takes up. xDD

Actually muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. I thought this quote summed it up better than I did though:

Funny bc when i went to college my Dietetics teacher was the very person to teach this . I think ill go with him xD .

Logically that makes no sense. xD Your Dietetics teacher may have been talking about it in a different context.

As in the example above, a pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of steel. A pound is still a pound. Even if steel is usually heavier, a pound of steel will always be equal to a pound of feathers. We're speaking of weight, not quantity.

Thats bc you are taking what was meant by this saying outta context .. Its meant that a person who say for instance is a body builder weighs more than what the BMI range says bc the muscle takes up more bulk but yet they arent overweight in the sense they have an overabundance of body fat which is what is inferred when people are called overweight. Yet bodybuilders arent 'obese ' But the BMI would say they were ..They just have more muscle density bulked up . However a skinny person can be considered thin by the weight standards of BMI but have an overabundance of body fat making them technically obese ... Thats what i meant when i said the most accurate way to guage body health is not BMI but body fat percentage . Its also what is meant by that saying.

Theres no fight here xD.. I'm just telling you what is taught in Dietetics. I have an associates in this so far and this is what we were told.

But that wasn't the original point, was it? It was the weight, not the quantity. If we were speaking in terms of quantity, you would be right. But we never specifically said in terms of profusion. It could have been a significant amount in either direction. Again, I don't really want to get into a debate on here. xD We're not going to change each other's thoughts on it anyway. im ignoring everyone ok

 

just because you're in a healthy weight range does not mean you are healthy

this is pure simple fact

i am overweight but i think i am a lot healthier than the girls who do nothing and eat chips and drink soda all the time

because i watch what i eat and i exercise.

i am healthier than them, overweight or not.

 

now as for you 4everbee, i dont know your lifestyle, but you seem to be in a healthy weight range.

it doesnt matter however. if you feel fine with how you look, who cares if anyone points out that you've gained a few.

 

 

also, muscle does not weight more than fat

 

a pound of a muscle is a pound of fat, but a pound of muscle is leaner than fat.

so two people who weigh let's say 130 and are 5'2" can look entirely different, saying that one of them is active and eats well (meaning they are probably more toned and slimmer) and the other is not.

 

it's not about weight, it's about where the weight comes from.

As for the rest of your post thats why i said BMI isnt as accurate as body fat percentage...BMI can say a bodybuilder is 'obese' based on sheer muscle density weight while a person who is in a healthy weight range can have a high body fat percentage ( which is the very definition of obese)..

I said i ignored everyone so i didnt bother reading what everyone said on the matter, just the fact that everyone was fighting over muscle and fat and yeah

 

saying muscle weighs more than fat is a false statement, even if you mean it in the way you explained in the first sentence (which is true btw). the statement should be more like 'muscle is leaner than fat' or something like that imo. that's just what i think

and yes body fat percentage is always more reliable :3
