Well For me the most important game in the saga is Birth By Sleep. That is because without Birth By Sleep we wouldn't know what and who started this whole mess.(x Blade, Kingdom Hearts, starting a new Keyblade War, Those who first fought Xehanort and prevented him from taking over the x-Blade and Kingdom Hearts and etc)

I have to go with Chain of Memories. First of all, it introduces you to Castle Oblivion, and if you know nothing about Castle Oblivion, then you miss a lot of interesting stuff in the series. It also shows exactly how strong the bond between Sora and Kairi is, which is key in most of the series. Thirdly, it shows the bulk of the struggle between Riku and Ansem SoD, which is also relevant in most of the other games. Last, there's the tearing apart and reconstructing of Sora's memories, which comes up again and again in the games following CoM.

So yeah, while I really think all the games are important (except maybe coded :P), I believe that if you don't play Chain of Memories, you're missing more crucial parts of the story overall than with any other game.

I'd have to say BBS, since it's the start of it all, and it reveals Xehanort's original intentions. He wanted to recreate the Keyblade War so he could know what happened, and he needed a younger, stronger vessel so he could live and witness it.

BBS bc its the foundation of everything that comes after in the series. You know what they say about the importance of a strong foundation. right? Without one, whatever is built on top will surely crumble .

tutti frutti. For the time being I am stuck between BBS and KH1. BBS is where the entire series starts as a whole where we better understand why the enemy is doing what he does, but on the other side, KH1 gave me this feeling that stuff has already taken place in the universe and needs to be fixed, all while we're thrown into it. But I can't really say at this point and time.

This can be a very difficult question. My toss up is between bbs and 3d.

Bbs because it's where everything started

3d because

Chain of Memories.

Every game besides KH1 hinges on this game.

To people saying BBS, yes it is where it all began chronologically, but it borrows heavily from other games. If it had been the first game in the series, I'd agree that it is the most important, but as is, most of its information can be found elsewhere.

I have to say KHII. All of the games hinge on this game. For example:

  • Xemnas->Ansem->Xehanort=/=Ansem the Wise. Self explanatory.
  • The secret ending introduces BBS.
  • Introduction of Terra as secret boss in the final mix.
  • Hints at 358/2 Days.
  • Better look at Organization XIII.
  • Reveals DiZ's identity.
  • Reveals much of Xehanort's plan.
  • Leads into Re:Coded.
  • Roxas. 'Nuff said.
I will add onto this later as I can't think right now.....

KH1 and 2. There have been many, many retcons since KH1, but without KH1 the entire story as we know it wouldn't be. KH2 added a whole lot to the story and without playing it, you would be completely lost. Yeah, BBS may be the first chronologically, but without KH1 and all of the other games before, BBS really wouldn't have much to be based on.

Until KH3D, we didn't know to what extent ASoD and Xemnas were being controlled by MX; they seemed to be acting towards different goals but now we know how unified they were and how awesome MX's plan really was .
