Aai's Story. Chapter 1:"War and Peace"
It all began under a crabapple tree in the spring. Aai was reading a book that her mom had practically thrown at her. "Read it." she said. Aai was quiet, but she followed orders when it came to her mother. Riolu jumped on top of her head, her usual perch, and was looking at the words with her. They were both only 10 years old, but they looked like they lived together for a thousand years. The apple blossoms were falling slowly as they read the leather-covered book. It had no pictures, and was the most boring book ever written by man. At least that's what Aai and Riolu thought.
They both could hear the sound of a bike rolling up their gravel driveway, and soon Daryl and Kovu rolled into their garage. Daryl was 15 and had a handsome face with dark blue eyes. He was wearing his normal green and white t-shirt and blue jeans, and his blonde hair was tinted with red in the sun. Kovu's small white feathers individually flowed as he flew and landed on Daryl's shoulders, and his beak seemed to shine scarlet more than orange. Riolu made a break for it towards him, and even Aai got up to greet her brother, despite mother's orders.
Daryl expected them to come in. He gave Aai a quick hug, but it looked like something was wrong. Aai was starting to worry, because he checked things he never really looked at, like the tires on the car, or the hinges on the garage doors.
"Are you alright?" she finally asked when she couldn't hold the urge any longer. "Who? Me?" Daryl said sarcastically. "Oh yeah, I'm fine." But he was distracted by checking the screws on the door hinges.
"DARYL SPENCER YOUNG!" said their mom in a raspy voice. She had been in a terrible mood, and she sounded like she was ready to burst. Daryl immediately dropped everything and headed for the door to the house. Kovu still sat tight on his shoulder. Before he did, however, he turned to Aai with a kind look on his face. "I'm fine." Aai wouldn't believe it.
Everything soon went downhill from there. "AAI!" Daryl shouted, and she ran alongside Riolu to the top of their staircase, which led to their mother's bedroom. Aai was shocked to see what was in the room. A rager- like the ones she saw in the newspapers. It was a man, but with tattered clothing that was more holes than fabric. Where the eyes normally were instead were lifeless black holes. They were supposed to be contained far off in the city. "AAI!" Darly shouted, and Aai snapped back into reality. She called upon Riolu, and Riolu quickly used a shock of lightning to make the rager stumble and fall out the window. Then Aai saw the real problem. It was Mother. Her Spirit, Prissy, was sand. It was turned to sparkling sand. And their mother arose from her spot on the corner with lifeless holes as eyes.
Daryl grabbed Aai and practically carried her down the stairs with Riolu wrapped in her arms. Daryl kept running out the front door and into the yard. Ragers came from everywhere except the direction they were going. The last thing that Aai remembers from that horrific day is the cover of the book that she read. In gold, shiny text were the words "War and Peace."
