Favorite Game Assistant Characters

Recommended Posts

I've gotta explain this. An assistant character is a character who, well, assists the player, although they are never controlled by the player. They may help directly by being in combat with you, or somewhere else entirely offering radio support. Assistant characters are not controlled!!!! So you could use Nissun from "Okami", but you can't use Riku or Clank, as they are both player characters. Simple enough, right?

Top Five

5. Drebin 893 (Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots)

Who doesn't enjoy a visit form Drebin? Whether he's unlocking a gun you've picked up or offering a drink, Drebin's always got something up his sleeve. Not only that, but he'll do business anywhere, allowing you to even shop during boss fight. If you ever need anything just remember, "Eye Have You"!

4. Cheshire Cat (American McGee's Alice)

"Every picture tells a story, sometimes we don't like the ending... sometimes we don't understand it."

The Cheshire Cat spends the games guiding Alice through her twisted Wonderland, informing her of what lies ahead as well as the carnage that she leaves behind. His tongue is as sharp as the Vorpal Blade, and seems to be the only character that Alice doesn't mind excessive mockery from. Lord knows we don't mind.

3. Hal "Otacon" Emmerich (Metal Gear Solid series)

The otaku with a heart of gold and unlucky love life. Otacon's been with Snake since Shadow Moses, and always has his back throughout the series. Should the need arise, one quick Codec call is all it takes for some advice, or to save the game.Plus, there's just a little Hal in all of us...

2. Victor Sullivan (Uncharted series)

What would this list be without Victor "Goddamn" Sullivan? Sully's been with Nate for the best of 30 years or so, and is the closest thing to a father figure that he's got. Sully's always there to help... assuming he won't be shot... or blown up... or anything else that's bound to happen anyways. But in the end, Sully always proves that he's worth his salt.

1. Fuuka Yamagishi (Persona 3)

Fuuka's my kind of girl. straight-up.

She never enters combat herself, instead analyzing enemies and the layers of Tartarus from the outside. Her Personas, Lucia and Juno, can't even fight (and Fuuka even has her own exclusive equipment, that can't be changed of course). But her greatest benefits come as she levels up: She can heal the party between floors in Tartarus, completely heal characters in battle, and even divides her stats among the party while they're in combat. Not to mention her personality. All in all... yeah. #1.

EDIT: I had pics in there, but it screwed everything up for some reason... /RAGE!!!!!!!!!

Taking this using my set list of favorite games.

1. Peppy Hare from Star Fox 64. He was the only one I liked: Falco was a bit of a jerk, and Slippy makes me smack my head against the glass of my Arwing. Peppy had good advice, had a good personality, had a swell accent, and had an interesting backstory.

2. Bottles the Mole from Banjo Kazooie. Probably the best way to get moves in a game is in a fourth wall breaking mole who not only makes no bones about his being in a game, but has a continuing war of words with Kazooie, making each encounter a treat.

3. The Toad Brigade from Super Mario Galaxy. The Toads finally get to get off on their own adventure, only to usually result in failure. But they do help out Mario every now and again, and they're a good deal of fun.

4. Q, from Goldeneye. You can't beat the game without help from good old Q, who will not only give you all the gadgets you need, but will give you ample information on when and how to use them.

Top Five:

5. Mog-Final Fantasy 13-2- I love Mog! Only because without being able to toss him wherever i please i wouldn't have been able to collect some of the treasure in the game!

4. Steve Delhomme-Catherine-I like Steve, because he has a cool voice and i feel bad for all the crap he gets put through in the game.

3. Daxter- Jak and Daxter-I can technically only say Jak and Daxter, because he is playable in Jak 2 and 3. Funny, that hes playable in the two games that DON'T include his name lol. But, i love and hate Daxter. He's an a--hole, but he is definitely there for Jak when he can help. Considering he saved Jak at the beginning of Jak 2(despite it taking him 2 years-although that 2 years led to a very fun PSP game!)

2. Victor Sullivan-the Uncharted series-Sully may not do much in the Uncharted series, he is still very funny and a great friend to Nathan Drake.

1. Zeke Jedediah Dunbar-the inFamous series-I loved Zeke in the beginning, then i utterly despised him for betraying Cole. But, after seeing all of the efforts he put into making it up to Cole in inFamous 2, i went back to loving him. Zeke is probably my all time favorite sidekick. (I might have said Riku, but he is a fully playable character in a bunch of the series, so i didn't think it was right to use him.)

Top 5 for me:

1. Maya Fey (Phoenix Wright): Maya is a cheerful, funny, and somewhat dim girl that actually begins to work at Phoenix's law office after a certain case and works as his assistant throughout the three games. She has the ability to channel ghosts and takes their appearance when doing so. Phoenix & Maya's relationship seems so realistic (besides the fact that she can channel ghosts) that it makes you love both characters. Phoenix wouldn't be as entertaining without Maya!

2. Pearl Fey (Also from the Phoenix Wright series): She is Maya's 8-9 year old cousin who is also training to become a spirit medium and can channel spirits. She is soooooo adorable! She's so innocent and funny. She's constantly mistaking Phoenix & Maya's friendship as a romantic relationship. Whenever she catches Phoenix blushing or looking at another woman, she smacks him. Sometimes, she does it multiple times lol.

3. Mr. Hanekoma (The World Ends With You): Mr. H is introduced in the first week of the game. He is generally a good guy. He watches over the players and seems to have an eye on Neku and gives him advice when he needs it. Mr. H was such a cool guy that it made ME admire him. If only he was a real dude and I knew him.. He'd be like my mentor!

4. Daxter (Jak & Daxter series): Daxter is a wise cracking, hilarious little ottsel that you can't help but to love but also want to punch in the face from time to time. I grew up with the Jak & Daxter series so Daxter always has a certain place in my heart.

5. Victor "Goddamn" Sullivan! (Uncharted Series): He may be a playable character in online multiplayer, but in single player, he is a hilarious and trustworthy companion. Well.. no.. he doesn't really do much. But the relationship and conversations between Drake and Sully are usually hilarious.
