Let's Make Kony Famous!

Recommended Posts

I know, that guy is so evil, i just watched a documentary on Kony on the 7pm project and this person needs to be brought to Justice. First we need to make him famous because he's been destroying the lives of so many people for the last 20 years. Let's start by making him famous on this site.

Heres my mark:

Many of you are asking, "Why don't we just arrest him?" He's been hiding in that jungle for a little over twenty years. Why doesn't U.S. step in? Here's the reason, they didn't think it was important enough. But now they have sent soliders in, and they did it because it was the right thing to do. But those soliders can be taken away just as easily, if they think the cause is lost. Like the video said, almost 99% of the world doesn't know who he is. Well, obviously thats changed. But now that we do know, we have to spread the word. I'm going to ask my principal if on April 20th we can put posters all over the school. I'm going to pledge money. I think everyone else who reads this thread should to, because I don't want to die and have this still going on.

This Kony 2012 is a load of bullshit

Thanks to Cella for linking me to this video

Not only is he most likely dead, but Invisible Children is donating money to the Uganda military (only 31% may I add) who CAN'T DO ANYTHING because if he's not dead, he's definitely not in Uganda.

Uh... I'm pretty sure he's alive.

And in the main video it said that Kony has made peace, fled out of the country, rebuilt his army, and then attacked uganda again.

Also, Invisible Children isn't the Ugandan Military fund and the organization isn't dedicated to just catching Kony. A lot of it goes torwards building schools, rehabilitating former child soldiers etc. A total in depth breakdown of all of the organization's finances can be seen here.

Searching for Kony for 8 years? That's nothing, America searched for Osama Bin Laden for about 20 years, and there has been speculation that he was dead.

Kony would want the local populace to think he is gone, this would make them unprepared for the next wave on rebel attacks. Kony's strategy seems to go as follows.

1. Force people into his rebel army

2. Attack Uganda

3a. Win

3b. Fail

4a. Install totalitarian regime

4b. Make peace talks

5a. ???

5b. Leave Uganda and hide in the congo

6a. PROFIT!!!

6b. Rinse and Repeat

And Kony doesn't exactly have a giant spotlight over his head 24/7. He's in the firetrucking jungle. The canopy prevents any type of aerial or satellite recon, the heat prevents use of thermal, the terrain rarely supports ground vehicles, and the thick brush reduces your visibility to about 10 feet. Plus this guy is usually trying to hide. Talk to any Vietnam War vet and they will tell you that finding the Vietcong was usually harder than actually fighting them.

the invisible children organization is a fraud organization. whether or not kony is still alive, the war and the lra are real, but the invisible children do nothing to stop it. there are real organizations in africa that do their best to take action and the invisible children organization doesn't donate to them, they are donating to an army that can't cross over borders and therefore can't go and stop the lra since the lra is NOT IN UGANDA and has not been FOR YEARS.

there were only three people from uganda interviewed; two politicians and one civilian. they have not been attacked recently by him. uganda is one of the few countries in that area of africa with a stable central government, so the lra is focusing on the surrounding countries instead.

these children ARE NOT INVISIBLE and by claiming that they are you are erasing their voices. if you are not willing to listen to them, do not speak for them. i have no doubt you all have the sincerest intentions, but please understand that the organization you are supporting is not the greatest organization.

Hence why the Kony 2012 movement is appealing to the United States Government. Because the United States is the only country that is willing to march wherever the hell they want. Plus, with elections coming up, someone is going to be smart enough to do something major if only to try and get the votes.

Uh...

Erm....

Ummm... I guess...

the lra is focusing on the surrounding countries instead.

Because he is trying to get support for future attacks. Plus the original video even acknowledged that he has since moved to other regions and whether or not this man is in Uganda is completely irrelevant. His current location does not render his crimes invalid. The Ugandan Military is receiving funds and training to secure it's borders against future assaults. More powerful militaries such as the US are the ones that are going to have to go after him. Kony know's he is safe outside of Uganda. Which is exactly why we need to get the government to dedicate more troops to taking this guy down. And considering that we just left Iraq we should have a decent reserve of troops to try and catch this guy.

It could be a better organization, but it's the only organization with the funds and support to even have a remote chance of accomplishing something regarding the issue.

Kony needs to be stopped. And I'm glad that Invisible Children (IC) have raised so much awareness about his crimes. However, IC are NOT helping the cause, as about a third of their profits go to supporting the Ugandan Military. A military that is known for rape and thieving and killing innocent people.

Another third of IC's profits go directly to the people running IC and fund their filming.

The last third, and let me get this across, it is only a third of their proceeds, go to decent charities (building schools, giving supplies etc.).

If you truly want to help there are many more charities that are a lot better than IC.

Also the people of Uganda do not want our military there.

Like for reals, no one wants the US military in their country imo.

We need to stop worrying about other countries especially when they don't want us there

Do people think military intervention changes anything? There are many people who support military intervention on this issue when asked the same about the wars that the U.S are currently in would say we were wrong to go there. Even though the basis of intervening with troops was to protect the citizens of those countries.

I have three issues with this movement. I'll break them down...Let me also say I DO NOT support a warlord doing this to children anywhere!

1. There is no real plan to make sure that the kids in central Africa would be protected from this happening from either some other warlord or their own governments. So, going all activist and superhero like wanting to save everyone is not the way to go when there is no actual strategy in place. Also, military force does not change the mindset of a country. Any real change has happened because of the people changing their ideals and what they believe is right. Yes, wars have been the result of this, but they are not the root of change.

2. Invisible Children is not a respectable organization and therefore should not be trusted with this issue. They are selling a product as much as they are selling the cause. If they are asking for military intervention or at least awareness they should be giving away their posters, shirts, and wristbands. A true charity would not ask for $30 for you to have a few posters and a wristband. They would love to give it away or sell it at a very low price. The fact that reports have shown them only using a minority percentage of funds towards actual charity is sickening.

3. The video is horrible. It is flashy and filled with outdated facts as a Ugandan blogger stated in her response video to the movement. The video manipulates by using the founder's child. A real documentary does not try and manipulate, but show the facts. I find something very wrong with the lack of fact checking behind this and quick bandwagon effect of many people (mainly young kids...btw I'm 19). If we do not check up on the facts or think before we act we will end up making mistakes which may result in something worse than Kony. Social Media is a great tool, but don't only take the word of a flashy video, research the topic.

The plain fact is Ugandans do not want U.S help. They can do it on their own. The video makes it out to be that only the "white man" can save Africa. I'm sure Ugandans are working on the problem. If it was an easy solution to this they would have already done it. Taking Kony down won't make the lives of Ugandan children any better in the long run. You have to let a country's own people figure out their solutions. We in America our ignoring our own problems of poverty, discrimination, and failing monetary system. We need to focus on our own problems before we act all superior and tell people how things should be done. Nobody likes a stranger going into their homes and telling them how to do things.
