XIIISwords 1,059 Posted March 3, 2012 Okay, this is 100% serious. I have never had a Facebook account. Never saw the need, never saw the appeal, and personally I still don't find it "necessary." Unfortunately, it seems to be becoming necessary. As a high school senior, I'm starting to get emails from colleges I've been accepted too asking me to join their Facebook pages for exclusive information. My classmates are organizing senior activities (trips, prom, pictures) and making groups with my clubs on Facebook. It seems like I'll be left behind if I don't get one. Now comes the horrible "how could you be a modern teenager and think like that?" part. I feel like I'd be socially awkward on Facebook. I'd feel strange sending friend requests and I don't like putting pictures of myself on the internet. I hate revealing personal information, which is a reason I love the anonymousness (not a word) of forums. And advice before I make my first account? Always 309 Posted March 3, 2012 If you feel weird sending friend requests, start by only sending requests to your closest friends and family, as well as the people you may have to friend for the sake of your high school activities and whatever. I felt the same way at first, especially with people I was only acquainted with, but I was surprised when a lot of the people I thought barely knew I existed "friended" me on Facebook. At that point, I felt less weird about requesting friends. You just get used to it over time. As for putting up pictures of yourself, don't feel obligated to do so at all. It's perfectly fine if you just have an anime character or a pretty landscape or your pet for a profile picture, or even no picture at all. Don't feel bad about it. Now, some of your friends may tag you in their photos, and if you're uncomfortable with that, you can remove the tag from the picture, and the only way you can be tagged on that photo again is if you personally tag yourself. Umm, haha I don't know what other kind of advice to give, unless you have any further questions that are a bit more specific?

J. Severe 1,137 Posted March 3, 2012 I don't think you want to do Facebook, you could get it pregnant. But yeah, I'm with ya - I'm not really a big fan of FB either.
AnsemTheWise 1,114 Posted March 3, 2012 I only made one because my friends made me do it. The only activity on there's my Twitter Feed and whatever the PSN posts that I've done.
WatersGood 45 Posted March 3, 2012 Don't panic. If they know what you like and that's your profile pic than its fine. (And it'll be 100% easier for your frinds to find you amongst the bajillions of other people who potentially have your name in common) As for what to... I don't even know what the official term is, "Facebook?". ??? : Facebook :: Tweet : Twitter :: Blog : Tumblr. See where I'm going? Just say important/interesting/what stands out things on your mind and stuff thats happening. It's really quite simple. Just don't over think it ok? Spiney 125 Posted March 3, 2012 I'm in university and I have a few friends who do not use facebook. And they seem to get on along just fine. I dont think you need one if u don't want one. I have one just b/c I have a few international friends that i wouldn't be able to talk to if I didn't. But the one thing I hate about facebook...is when people take a "vacation" from it b/c it's distracting....>> Well It wouldn't be so distracting if u weren't on it so much! ><

lizzie1238 538 Posted March 3, 2012 I don't have Facebook and I don't want to get it, but I hate how everything requires Facebook now. Sometimes just trying to play a game it watch a video online requires you to sign in to Facebook! It's so stupid!

A lot of people use Facebook nowadays, and it's one of those things that people use a lot. If you join Facebook, you'll know about all the new events and such. If you do join Facebook eventually, don't accept game request of Farmville and such, it's a complete waste of time.
