KH3D Seven Keyholes of Sleep

Recommended Posts

Not sure how I didn't make this connection before... hopefully this isn't some well-known fact that I've just been missing.

In the Special Trailer, Yen Sid tells Sora and Riku that they have to awaken those in sadness and open the seven keyholes of sleep. "Those in sadness," of course, refers to the 7 mentioned in Mickey's letter to Sora at the end of Re:Coded - Terra, Ven, Aqua, Roxas, Xion, Axel, and Namine. There are 7 hearts in sadness and 7 keyholes of sleep... and Sora is going into the World of Sleep in order to awaken those hearts and unlock those keyholes. I reckon each keyhole (harbored in the 7 worlds that Sora visits in DDD - Nomura has confirmed that there will be 7 playable worlds to unlock in the Realm of Sleep) must unlock one of those 7 hearts, whatever that might imply.

I thought the keyholes had something to do with the princesses of hearts since their are also seven of them.

Plus Axel wouldnt count as one of the seven people who is suffering would he?

Sure he would.

http-~~-//youtu.be/N8r9yn_xQB4?t=4m42s

Start at 4:42. Namine says "Touch this, and the memories locked inside [sora] will flow into your hearts."

Then you see Axel and Roxas, with Namine saying "These are hidden truths that Sora has been keeping locked away deep inside him," followed by Xion and Namine herself, and Namine continues, "These people are waiting for Sora - the only one who can put an end to their hurt... Sora must be the key to saving the people you saw - and the ones you're about to see," as Terra, Ven, and Aqua appear.

I think that opening the keyholes of sleep just means awakening the worlds the Realm of Dreams so that they will be fully restored.

You really think it's that simple? Nomura doesn't do that. The World of Sleep would not be included blithely, without any further plot significance.

First off that was Roxas's memories of him with Axel, the second one was Xion's with Namine, and the third was Ven with his friends.

All three characters have a connection with Sora

...Have you played Re:Coded?

Naminé: "Mickey, maybe you know how much they're hurting. These three were keys, too. They were connected to the truth behind the Keyblade. And, they're still connected, Sora, somewhere way down deep inside of you."

That is Namine referring to all 3 - Terra, Aqua, and Ven - as connected to Sora, not just Ven. And I'll repeat: "Sora must be the key to saving the people you saw... and the ones you're about to see," and she proceeds to say, "These people are waiting for Sora - the only one who can put an end to their hurt."

Mickey then sends his infamous letter:

"I wanted to tell you right away, About memories from the past that sleep within you, And about the pieces that will tie you to your future. Sora, Riku, Kairi, the truth behind the Keyblade, has found its way through so many people, and now I know that it rests in your hearts. Sora, you are who you are because of those people, but they're hurting, and you're the only one who can end their sadness. They need you. It's possible that all your journeys so far, have been preparing you for this great new task that's waiting for you. I should have known there were no coincidences, only links in a much larger chain of events. And now the door to your next journey is ready to be opened."

i was having this same idea, but aquas and leas hearts are awake. Im not sure if roxas and namine is in sleep cause they can contact each others through sora and kairi.

Vens and Xions hearts are only one i know to be in sleep. Terras is unsure. It might be awake in xehanorts heart as we could see them talking to each others.

That doesnt really prove your point in using the seven sleeping keyholes to save all of them, that logic doesnt make sense considering the fact that Aqua never lost her heart, Lea is back to normal, and Roxas, Xion, and Namine are nobodies of two the main characters and as we all know Sora was Xion and Roxas's original form while Namine was Kairi's. So there is no point in wasting something like seven keyholes to bring back characters that do not need to be brought back

You're misunderstanding. It's not about "bringing them back." Look, I don't know exactly what Nomura means when he says that there are hearts/memories asleep inside of Sora (and if you watch the Special Trailer, Young Master Xehanort, at the beginning, tells Sora he has hearts asleep within him - undoubtedly referring to the same thing) and that he must "end their sadness." It's incredibly esoteric. I'm quite aware that each of those 7 characters are in an entirely different situation, that Aqua hasn't lost her heart, that Lea is back in his original form, etc etc. Unfortunately, we cannot disregard the entire purpose of the plot of Re:Coded, which was ultimately that those 7 personas are "hurting" and certain "memories" of theirs are "sleeping" within Sora - culminating in Mickey sending Sora the letter which informs him of this (esoteric though it may be) - whatever that may mean.

You should know by now not to take the concept of "sleep" literally. You must consider the as-yet-to-be-revealed significance of this expanding motif of sleep. The meaning of "birth by sleep" has still yet to be revealed, but is clearly important and related to Terra, Ven, and Aqua. Then we had, at the end of Re:Coded, the recurring mention that certain memories and sufferings of TVA/Roxas/Xion/Axel/Namine are "asleep" within Sora. (Of course, we also had Sora sleep for a year to recover his own memories). Can you really, now, say that it's merely a coincidence that the entire premise of the upcoming game is based on the Realm of Sleep??? Talk about faulty logic.

Omg you're* avoiding the question

I've played BBS 3 times, KH2 6 times (plus one KH2 FM+ play through), and Days twice.

Now could you explain the relevance of the question?

Ok if you played these games you would not have asked who are the hearts and memories are that Sora has inside of him.

He has the hearts and memories of Roxas, Xion, and Ven.

What? I didn't ask that... Yikes, I'd read more carefully if I were you.

I was reiterating that the end of Re:Coded makes it clear that Sora is harboring the memories and "sufferings" of not only Roxas, Xion, and Ven, but Terra, Aqua, Axel, and Namine as well.

On a side-note, you're not entirely right. Ven's heart is in Sora, yes. Now you must remember that Roxas' heart IS Ven's heart. Although they appear to have their own sovereign identities. That's yet another mystery to be resolved - how to reconcile the 2 separate personas of Roxas and Ven, when they are the same heart (remember that the reason Roxas took Ven's appearance is because, when he was formed as a Nobody, he took Ven's heart with him). As for Xion, we don't even know that she HAS a heart (though we'd like to think she does).

But that's beyond the point. The point I was making was that Namine esoterically tells us that the "memories/sadness/hurting" of those 7 are "sleeping" in Sora. What that means is still a mystery, but I reckon that by unlocking the 7 "keyholes of sleep," he will awaken those that are "sleeping" - as Yen Sid says that he must "awaken those in sadness and open the 7 keyholes of sleep" - whatever that may imply.

Geez, this is becoming so redundant.

Sure. May or may not be. Either way, the DDD trailers thus far have made it evident (both with Young Master Xehanort telling Sora about those inside him and Yen Sid saying that he must enter the realm of sleep to awaken those inside him) that the game will have an intent focus upon precisely that - the awakening of those memories, or whatever.
