1. Birth by Sleep

2.358/2days

3.Kingdom Hearts

5.Re:Coded

I don't really know where to stick CoM as I haven't actually finished playing it, and I have high expectations for DDD so this list is definitely subject to change :P

Hm...Well, let's start by eliminating Re:Coded from the equation as I haven't actually finished that game, only got to Traverse Town then stopped. Also, I'm choosing to rate the games based on gameplay and story separately, because honestly I can't figure out my opinions with the two merged, sorry :P

Gameplay

KHBBS /-/ KH /-/ KH2 /-/ KH 358/2 Days /-/ KH Re:CoM & KHCoM

Story

KH /-/ KHBBS /-/ KH 358/2 Days /-/ KH Re:CoM & KHCom /-/ KH2

(I feel like there is a playable KH game that I'm missing...Oh well)

For those of you who want to know why I rated the games like I did, you can look in the spoilers below, considering that it'll probably be really long.

Gameplay

Alright, let's start with BBS. I chose this as first because I honestly liked the whole Command set up as well as the D-links. The Commands added a wide variety of ways to customize how you fought. Sure it may have not been had the greatest amount of customization available, but it was a new feature that added to how you played.

I chose KH next because of the simplicity of it. It offered a new way to fight in a game that I had never experienced before (At this point in time, I hadn't played too many games, in fact, this was the 2nd KH game I played, KH2 being the first.) Sure, I was/and still am a little irritated with the camera controls being R2 and L2 instead of the Right Analog stick, but it was still a great way to play.

The Reaction Commands, as well as how the combat worked for KH2, put this game a little in the middle for me. I honestly do enjoy the exasperating combos you can pull out in the game, from the short range Explosion finisher to the Triangle mashing of the 1000 Heartless fight, but at the same time it takes away from the game a little. I will admit, the Reaction Command idea was a good one, a great one in fact, it allowed for me not to have to wait talk to someone until my attack command had changed to Talk, and it added various unique sections to boss battles and such. I don't think I need to explain greatly as to why I thought it was overused though. Sure, there were times when it was necessary and appropriate, but there were other times when it was just implemented to be different. Idk, I just felt it could have been a little different.

Now, on to Days. I will admit, this had a unique change on how everything worked. Magic in the form of items (Similar to that of Chain of Memories), and a completely controllable level system I get the feeling for some reason that the missions were related to FF VII Crisis Core, but I might be wrong, idk, that's just always been in my head. Multiplayer was something acceptable in Days, considering it was the first to really explore with it (Mainly because it had the availability to do so easily, though the original Chain of Memories beat Days to that since you could fight against other people so long as you had the necessary cords to do so, but there weren't as many options) However, I have Days lower on the list just because it seemed like some areas didn't seem like they had effort put into them. The weapons for the main Organization members aren't one of those areas, considering that they did a lot of stuff with that. Probably the one area that pops into my head the most is the Heartless. Sure, there are lots of new types of them, but, there are lots and lots of 'copies' if you know what I mean. I'm pretty sure there's at least one 'class' of Heartless that has around 6 different forms of itself. I'm sure you all see what I mean, though you may or may not agree. Now, as for the technical Final Boss, Riku. I honestly think they could have made him tougher in some way, but idk, I guess you could consider Xion more of a Final Boss, and rightfully so. I just wish there had have been more to the fight than what there was, but that's just my opinion.

Now, to the lowest on my list, Chain of Memories. I rate this so low because of the Cards. It's not that I believe the concept is bad, in fact, my feelings are quite the opposite. I rate it low because honestly, I suck at it (Yeah, I know, great reason to rate the game play low right?). Now that I start to think about it, I don't know why I'm rating it low based on my over all skill with the mechanics of this game. Cards held a rather original way of fighting in this kind of game, and the room cards allowed for the customization of how the battles would turn out. Crap, I feel dumb considering that I have no support for my reasoning of rating the gameplay on this so low...um...Forget you saw this :3

(This took a while to type...I feel like I just wasted a good deal of time on this...Oh well ;D)

Story

I think just about everyone can agree with me on this one. The links between the general story line and all the worlds visited were quite visible for the most part. Another thing that made KH the best in my opinion was the main story itself. Sora gets taken away from everything that is familiar to him and goes around with strange people to strange places to search for the two friends he has lost, one who 'betrays' him, the other in a deep sleep. After finally finding Kairi, he risks his own life to save her, and is brought back by her 'faith'. Then, rather than turning his back on the friend who had turned to darkness, he sought after him in order to save him and the rest of the world from the darkness that grew under the command of a dark 'deity', Ansem. After taking on the immense power of darkness with his own light and the strength of friendship, he and his companions manage to close the door holding back a powerful force that no man should hold alone. You have to admit, that is a pretty good story line.

(I would finish this, but I have things to do, like, sleeping. If you are at all interested in hearing my boring opinion, come back later I guess?)

KH2 did a horrible job at connecting the Disney world plots to the overall plot and has several flaws in terms of both story and gameplay,

I have to agree with you a little on this one. I did like the gameplay to an extent, though I think that we can all agree that Reaction Commands were a tad bit overused, just saying. As for the story, yeah, there wasn't really all that much connection with the Disney worlds like you said. You could really tell in KH 1 that there were connections between the main plot of the story and the worlds themselves. In KH2, well, I honestly can't say I recall that connection (I haven't played it for too long, mainly been hooked on Final Fantasy games for a while, man the PS1 classics like FFVII are so great!). To me it was just running around different worlds, fighting Heartless & Nobodies while meeting people randomly, meddling with their affairs, revisiting the world once to do some more of said malarkey. Could have been better, though I guess it could have been worse too: e.g., the evil, optional world Atlantica, I dread that world in KH2 with a burning passion and vengeance. I want Sephiroth to summon Meteor upon it and leave it in absolute ruin, that's what I want, and I will watch and laugh, laugh and be glad, after all, it's only a cartoon :3

Story:

#4 - Kingdom Hearts. When you get down to it, the story really isn't anything special. Sora is the chosen one, Riku is the fallen hero, Kairi is the destrested damsel, and Ansem SoD is the big bad. Nastalgia aside, it's pretty predictable.

#3 - Birth by Sleep. It may not have had the strongest story, but it did a good job incorporating the Disney worlds' plots and intertwining all of the characters. The characters were BbS's strongest point IMO.

#2 - Kingdom Hearts II.

#1 - Chain of Memories. Yes, that's right. IMHO it had the strongest, most solid story of all. The fact that Sora would go to great lengths to save a girl that he doesn't know, let alone the same girl that's been toying with his heart and changing all of his memories.

I also love all of the Org. members from this game.

Gameplay:

#4 - Chain of Memories

#3 - Kingdom Hearts II

#2 - Kingdom Hearts

#1 - Birth by Sleep

I haven't played Days or Re:coded yet.

And also, countdowns are waaay better than lists.
