keystrike 145 Posted February 12, 2012 Edit: If you wish to read only a summary, you may look in the spoiler below, if not, the whole thing is just below it. On the simplest level, the realm of dreams can be thought to be a mirror image of reality. This is obviously incomplete, but before moving on lets establish what reality looks like. Imagine a triangle with the realm of light as the base, kingdom hearts at the upper tip and the realm of darkness somewhere between as a line parallel to the base. The line at the realm of light is longer representing the ten years while, the line representing darkness is shorter representing, lets say one year passing. Finally at kingodm hearts one moment passed there and all of eternity passed in the realm of light. Unfold this triangle to give a diamond shape where the bottom triangle is the realm of dreams. Because dreams are independent of reality, a kingdom hearts at the bottom of the diamond/ lower triangle/ realm of dreams could be seen as a projector working in reverse so the flow of cause/effect is still going downwards. (a good explanation of this projection stuff will probably take a whole paragraph so). Basically, the seven lights of the realm of dreams are a result of this sort of flow of cause and effect downwards from the realm of light from kingdom hearts. The movement of cause and effect is mostly common knowledge what happens in real life affects your dreams (ie having nightmares about a scary movie) and the seven lights are not the only thing it applies to. The neat thing is that in the realm of dreams one can literally go from a dream of a time and place ten years in the past and then go to a dream about the present. The mysterious figure is just able to go into reality from a dream of the past. So in the realm of dreams, which you should still think of as the lower half of the diamond, you can go back and fourth in time, and if you can reach kingdom hearts, you can jump to any moment any place in time. So I got thinking today about Dream Drop Distance and went over my usual ideas seeing if I missed anything. Annoyed by having nothing with the seven pure lights of the realm I thought on to come to a conclusion I personally believe to be pretty interesting and for once, plausible. As the title may suggest, the key word is anti-projection; it with this idea that I began to link everything together. At first I was jumping from idea to idea and landed upon the one that the realm of dreams is upheld by these pure hearts. It made sense, sorta, not really much, but enough I thought, especially next to pluto being god. As I delve into it, it actually made more sense than I anticipated. Still not enough to warrant my full attention but it put me on the right track. I entirely disliked if not hated all together of the idea of their being two seven pure hearts of light. It simply did not and does not make sense either logically or emotionally. A silhouette of this projection idea began to appear. What if they do correspond? So what is this theory? In one sentence, this theory is about the kingdom hearts of the realm of dreams and its relationship to reality. I’d say most of this makes sense, maybe some of it even is accurate, but we’ll see. Because this theory is an extension of an earlier one of mine, I think I’ll start there. Before thinking about the realm of dreams, why don’t we start with something we know about dreams. To start, dreams are weird. Some things are twisted, some things remains constant. But constant to what? Reality. With that we have our first major aspect that we may apply to Kingdom Hearts, dreams are based on reality, but it goes on. We have different levels of dreams, we might wake up from a dream to find ourselves in another one (this is called a false awakening), we also dream of our past, present, and future based off of memories and feelings. This last part I take to be another important factor that does not only feel right, but has already been ultilized by the mysterious figure. All of these real ideas on dreams may apply to Kingdom Hearts take on dreams in Dream Drop Distance, and regardless although I’m only focusing on a couple, its ok to use any of them. Now we can begin to connect them to what we know about Kingdom Hearts and dreams. There have been confirmed to be a number of worlds taking place in the past and while it is not necessarily the past, it most certainly is based on it. These dream people are also not independent of their true selves. Mickey feels as though he and Sora have met before in Symphony of Sorcery even though that is not the case for that world. It is an odd turn of the tables from coded, but one I find amusing. The worlds that have been restored have also been the sleeping ones. This is all nice backround info, but the real deal answers the question: How did the mysterious figure travel through time, and what are the origins of this ability? After some thought, and I am even more confident of this now, I believe him to have the ability to “fly” into reality and “drop” back into dreams at will. To be more specific, these are dreams of the past. Every dream of every place and every time has a corresponding real (or imaginary (sounds like math haha)) time and place. By “flying” up one may reach this reality, but only as far as the parameters of that dream extend. For example, If I had a dream of Sora’s time in wonderland and I was able to “fly” up to that time and place I wouldn’t be able to suddenly go jumping to worlds that I hadn’t even seen before in the real world. This could also explain the mysterious figure’s hazy or unstable existence from the Pre and Post-fight scenes. With this in mind, I can start to begin my anti projection theory. For starters it is more a conglomeration of ideas surrounding the seven lights of the realm so don’t take any one idea to be the wooden leg of this theory. Because this is a tough concept I think I’ll introduce it the way I came across it. The one piece that I couldn’t figure out how it would work into my above theory was how the seven lights of the realm would work their way into it. One of the first ideas that jumped into my head is oddly enough the one I still think may be true right now. “What if these lights support the realm of dreams?” I thought. And in my response I came to the conclusions that they give reality to dreams… or maybe a better way to put it, existence to dreams and their worlds. Think back to Xemnas’s plea to kingdom hearts to “shine your pale light on our empty realm.” Through this, these beings of nothing could become something. In fact, all of reality could be seen as filled by kingdom hearts. It is the extistence that puts off light, which fills existence which casts shadows. Without it nothing could exist more than a fleeting shadow cast from the flames and its ash. These seven hearts of light, should have something close to the same effect allowing the seven worlds in this realm to exist above the usual fleeting plane that the usual dream exists on. Thus, the worlds that clung onto existence from these lights could collect the dreams and feelings of the real world creating the realm of dreams. Now lets go to yet another, seemingly random place. The realm of darkness. Time travels much quicker here. Way before all the KH3D news I thought his powers might have had something to do with this. With my vague and broad speculations, I may just have been correct. Time travels quicker in the realm of darkness because it is closer to kingdom hearts. At kingdom hearts, everything would theoretically exist as one. To help imagine this, think of a triangle. The bottom side lays on the ground representing the time line in the realm of light, this is ten years. The triangle is also bisected horizontally somewhere between the top and the bottom representing the time line in the realm of darkness, this is one year and a noticabley shorter line as well. As these points getter farther and farther from the realm of light, deeper and deeper into the realm of darkness, or closer and closer to Kingdom Hearts depending on how you look at it, the time traveling closer to kingdom hearts becomes considerably shorter than that of in the realm of light. Theoretically, at Kingdom Hearts, by going from one side to the other, which could really be an instant of a second, all of time could pass by. In other words, Kingdom Hearts is a constant force through time. Ultimately, Kingdom Hearts is the projector of reality. This issue is slightly strechted in the realm of dreams because of its own rules, but with it, Xehanorts plan becomes crystal clear. Considering the phenomena of worlds in the realm of darkness ending up in the realm of dreams, we can take this triangle of the timeline and realms and expand in a particluar way to include the realm of dreams. Now imagine that this triangle is actually a fold and by unfolding it you get a diamond with the top triangle as what we have just imagine, but the bottom one being a dream variation of it. This “dream” side I believe to have multiple unique properties that will become center to kh3d’s plot, many of which I have discussed earlier. First, the levels of darkness and light become the drop distance within a dream. This sounds like it might have to do with “darkness becomes light, light falls into darkness” especially the second part if one looks at it as if the light is kingdom hearts and it is “dropping” further into the realm of darkness equivalent of the dream half, or just the true light within the darkness them in general. Secondly, different periods of time may be traversed by jumping from world to world. This very aspect makes approaching kingdom hearts even more important because suddenly within a closer range of time, one can spend much more time in reality. The normal speed within this dream realm being quicker than the realm of light may attribute to his speed. The threat of him realizing his goal concerning kingdom hearts at this point becomes much more of a threat considering this. And thirdly, the dreams may twist reality if the polarity of cause and effect of is reversed. In other words, our dreams would become the reality that the normal reality that we all live in used to be. If confused you, stick to your gut feeling. That last bit leads me into the final stretch. The idea of the anti-projection. The real kingdom hearts within the realm of darkness I previously said could be thought of as the projector of reality. But this reality, being the cause of another effect which is the realm of dreams becomes the projection determining the projector in the deepest reaches of the realm of dreams, Kingdom Hearts. Because it would be misleading to call the projector that if it is what is being determined, it deserves the name an anti projector, while the realm of light reality which once again would be misleading to call the projector because it is much more like a projector to the realm of dreams, it deserves to be called an anti projection in these regards. This also is consistent with the unfolded diamond idea representing both the dreaming and real halves. In both cases as their own reality converges to the tip, Kingdom Hearts is reached. And this is where Xehanorts plans begin. Its clear that he has some sort of control over time from the battle in bbs. In fact, don’t you think the fact that they were so incredibly obvious with the theme of time surrounding him is suspicious? If I was the creator and there was one thing I would be holding out on, it would be this. I have already established how I believed them to be connected but now lets go into more detail weather it be obsolete or not. First, what about clocks and gears? Take a look at these two keyblades. A close look. And now take another look. These two keyblades are extremely similar (as far as different looking keyblades go) and among multiple other connections they give us subtle clues on what may be going on. One may imagine time being driven in a gear like manner within the kh universe ultilizing different shapes to allow time to pass slower or quicker if one may imagine the second, minute and hour hand to all be different realms. Weather or not they take this litteral interpretation literally or not in the game I’d rather not theorize, but there is still more to be found in this relationship. For example there is something “divine” about void gear in the sense that it is related to the x-blade. In fact the teeth on void gear and the webbing I suppose you’d call it on the x-blade are very similar in style. Ventus’s side also shares similarities just to point out that neither one is dependent of the x-blade. And if fate is predetermined by kh it would make sense for them to make be similar before it even had to happen (never mind if that didn’t make any sense). Gears and mechanisms also happen to be related nicely to keyholes allowing for this new perspective with gears to be introduced relatively easily. This divinity may also correlate with the mysterious figure’s time traveling ability which appears to skip past the idea of dreams entirely and be a much purer form relating to kingdom hearts. Secondly, the keyholes of sleep, the seven pure hearts of the realm and the dream eaters I am going to try to explain fitting them into my theory. I think I’ve already established my belief that these pure hearts of light within the realm of dreams are the anti projection of the seven princesses of heart. I believe dream eaters to be in a similar, not identical case as the seven pure lights of the realm. I believe them to be the anti projection of reality’s heartless. Once again, as the case transforms from “going deeper into the darkness to reach kingdom hearts” into “fall deeper into the realm of dreams to reach kingdom hearts” so too should the darkness be different because it is now about “dropping” and thus the type of darkness is different which is consistent with what Yen Sid said. If these seven pure lights were captured by the darkness, the same effect would be present as if it were in the realm of light. It would be a sort of combination of what happened at the End of The World as well as Hollow Bastion. Kingdom Hearts, the Final Keyhole, and the Final Keyblade would all be assembled at the same place and Xehanort wins. That’s how it would work out in theory anyways. Thirdly and lastly, how do all of these bad people show up whenever xehanort shows up. This deals with the origin and nature of this Young Xehanort but honestly, I don’t have a clue. I don’t have a clue either about why there would be good anti projections of heartless either, but I think its good to leave a theory off with questions. Questions are how I got to this theory after all. 1 Wolfgang reacted to this

This is probably the best, most interesting theory anyone has ever came up with. You put way more thought into this than Nomura probably does.
