Why U Americans don't like the letter U?

Recommended Posts

It's just the way America chose to adopt the language as? I think it's something about the latin origin of -or versus like some french..somethingsomething of -our, but I could be wrong. We talked about this once in English but I hardly remember what the reason was.

Meh, the Americans spell a lot of words differently, obviously Colour, Glamour, Valour and many more. It is just the way the language has developed over there and as said it doesn't make much of a difference. Some things are pronounced differently but that's about it. I mean, they spell 'memorise' as 'memorize' and I always think that looks better after seeing it in KH so much haha, same with Organization.

I spell a lot of things the American way, mostly because it's faster and looks better IMO, but also because Google Chrome highlights words that are spelled the UK way and it's annoying. So yeah, why does it matter, again? There will be some reason for it. It's not like they have a completely different alphabet...

You could easily change your "Spell-checker options". Pretty easy.

I always thought the u was added to change pronounciation to something like "co-looor" or "fa-vooorite"

btw, I guess this confirms the WiiU to be a massive failure in the US while achieving huge success in all other English-speaking countries

Also, the British, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Australian, New Zealander and Canadian all use the letter 'u' for favourite, colour, honour, ect. Seven against one. We win.

Theses are all Eurpean countries though. Except Canada. It would have been better to use other languages because it would have supported your statement better.

Australia and New Zealand are not European countries. We are in the Asia Pacific.

All the countries I listed are part of the British Commonwealth. Their global location, whether in Europe, North America or the Asian Pacific, are of no matter. It is you who should pay attention. I did the research myself when I listed these countries. There's a reason why all these countries use the letter 'u' the way they do.

My second language is English so I got to choose between American or British but I choose American because:

1) I am too lazy to type an extra letter xD (U) and sometimes writing the (Z) is cooler than writing (S) as in Organization. I can't imagine it as Organisation to be honest xD

2) Because of reason 1

/facepalm

WAT IZ WRONG WIT U GAIZ?

Can't you see that words that use the letter 'u' are prettier with 'u' in them?

And the fact that you're all too lazy to put one exta letter in one word is downright pathetic, really.

Props to the people of the British Commonwealth for getting off what could be their lazy asses to properly spell those words.

Well I guess I need to study up on useless information. Regardless English words like color sound way better than colour. It makes you sound like a walrus when you say colour.

With someone with synesthesia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia), a sensory disorder that affects your senses with colour, I can tell that you that all letters I see are one particular colour. Color is monotonous, dull and boring whereas colour is so firetrucking colourful it's not even funny. When I see 'colour' I literally see rainbows.
