The next Xbox will ship to retailers in late October or early November of next year with six times the processing power of the Xbox 360, sources close to the project have told IGN.

Following initial reports from tech blogs Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, our sources have confirmed that mass production of the system's GPU will indeed begin by the end of 2012 but will not, however, be based on AMD's 7000 series Southern Islands GPU. Instead, the processor will be derived from the 6000 series, which was introduced last year. More specifically, it will be akin to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output. The chip currently has a market price of upwards of $79.99.

In real terms, the Xbox 720's raw graphics processing power is expected to be six times that of the Xbox 360 and will yield 20-percent greater performance than Nintendo's forthcoming console, the Wii U.

Developers are likely to receive development kits based on the system's final configuration in August. Projected pricing for the console was not provided.

Now about this topic. I think that's it's a good time for Microsoft to release a new console since the Xbox 360 is beginning to die off. But honestly, I don't see how the new Xbox will be twice as more powerful then the Xbox 360 currently is. But I guess I'll have to wait and find out if at e3 to get that answer, hopefully.This goes especially in Japan since the Xbox is the least liked console there. But I am quite interested to see what Microsoft will announce at this year's E3.

Although, I agree on your first statement, I disagree on the second one. I think Nintendo is kinda off in console race. Why? Because they just started on high-end with Wii U. Sony + Microsoft are probably planning for super high end ones (one that could be able to compete with PC). I think that the games and creativity of Nintendo is what makes them go forward.

 

I am no PC gamer but I am proud to say that PC is the most powerful gaming device available. It can practically emulate anything to be honest.

In power maybe. After-all the PS3 is going to be a 10 year system (AKA Sony ran out of ideas and needs to look at the competition) but Nintendo will always outsell everyone and the Xbox will always outsell Playstation. In order for Sony to get the edge on Nintendo and Microsoft they would need to add something never thought possible within the next generation. The only thing I can think of is the Matrix so they are probably going to be behind again.

The Wii U appears to be nothing more than an Ipad fused with a Wii. It's too early to make decisions about it but it doesn't look that great. If anything it's Nintendo trying to catch up rather than jumping ahead. The Wii's high sales are mostly credited to it's motion control thing it has going on. However now that both the Xbox and Playstation have their own respective motion control systems (which are far more superior than the Wii) Nintendo is going to be in for a bumpy ride unless they decide to put out decent games that aren't Zelda and Mario.

I don't think the price-tag will be that high. It will definitely be more expensive than the last generation, but so will all the other consoles.

 

You have to remember that what drives the price of an electronic up so high is how powerful it is. That is why your calculator doesn't cost more than 100 dollars where as your gaming computer cost 1000 dollars.

 

I'd imagine the pricetag being around 500 dollars. Honestly 80 dollars for a chips is pretty cheap. Go look at the website of any computer parts provider and see how much the high-end gaming chips cost. Most are around 300 dollars.

Anyway my personal opinion is that even if PS4 has more processing power it has been proven that people really don't give a shit about that hence why the least powerful system (Wii) has sold the most and why the most powerful system (PS3) has sold the least.

Honestly, considering the PS3 has been out for a year less than the X-Box and is less than 2 million units behind, the PS3 has sold more units per year than the 360 has. Yes, that doesn't change the fact that it's in last place, but it won't be surprising if the PS3 surpasses the 360 within the next year at this rate.

True enough, but none of the online systems for the consoles are perfect. If you're referring to the hack earlier this year, then here's a fact: if it's connected to the internet, it can never truly be secure.

I was implying Nintendo in whole has better exclusive. Part of the Line-Up has been announced but, nothing exclusive yet: Darksiders II and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. Other titles that are most likely to be Launch Titles are: LEGO City Stores (Nintendo Exclusive), Dragon Quest X (Nintendo Exclusive), Pikmin 3 (Nintendo Exclusive), Batman: Arkham City (most likely a somewhat enhanced port), and lastly an untitled Assassin's Creed game (Most likely not a exclusive)

This part made me rage. The Kinect nor Move is better then the Wii Remote. I'm not a fanboy (I'm a owner of all 3 consoles and devices) but Kinect isn't even apart of this because it really just sucks. The Move is lower-tech then the Wii Remote, most likely because it was a post-launch accessory. The inside might be better tech, but you don't need 4 different devices and spending $150 or more for some controller to work.
