Knight Chronicles: Gigas Awakening

Recommended Posts

Based off of White Knight Chronicles

It's been a number of years since the great cataclysm that tore the world asunder and the great kingdoms of the land have recently started being attacked by beasts far more vicious than the standard fare of monsters. They are known as Gigantes, or more commonly Gigas. Somehow they have managed to leave their home realm and they are wreaking havoc across the realm. The people are scared and vulnerable, the perfect opportunity to either take advantage of them all or step up and become a hero. There has been talk of weapons discovered among the ruins unveiled by the cataclysm, great Knights who may just be able to defeat these Gigas once and for all.

Features and Rules:

The world and past will be about the same, but the characters from the game will not be making an appearance unless an rper makes a case for them and I accept. All new, original Incorrupti are used in the story. New weapons are available in they are thought through and explained thoroughly. That includes separating individual weapon types from the general group they are found in and giving them new specific abilities (like making a katana function differently than a longsword). Each role player can control only two characters at first. Any more must be passed through me first please. To prove that you've read the features and rules you must post your favorite video game character at the end of your first post. Anyone can act just about however they want within certain limits. No god modding unless you're in a villain role. No one can kill anyone else's character without permission. There will only be five Knights available, all of which must be discovered in story but which must be claimed in the sign up post. Only one of each role player's characters will be able to find and use a Knight. Standard kh13 role play rules apply of course and no excessive violence or language will be accepted. Keep it PG-13. Posts not following the rules may be asked to be edited. There will be a three strike system.

Accepted! Okay, unless either of you know other members of this community who would be interested in this role play, I guess it'll just be us. This presents us with the unique opportunity/challenge (depending on how you look at it) to create and control a number of characters and take incredibly active roles in the story. Others are welcome to join at any time, however. AnsemTheWise, if you would be so kind as to list a few of the specialized skills your character can use, that would be helpful. For example, Spears can use inert field, tiger's rage, threaten, etc. What would your character's twin daggers allow?

Dagger Skills

Precision- Raises party's critical hit rate

Slipstream - Raises party's speed

Juggler - Boosts the user's concentration, allowing the use of more knives at a time, for a limited time

Recollection - Allows the user to return their weapon to their grasp from a distance. Requires time to "recharge".

I do like the idea of more characters. We could create a proper narrative here...

OOC: Alright then, let's go ahead and start this up!

Joseph was on a role. This pub in Balandor was full of suckers just waiting to donate their money to him to prove their skill. All he had to do was keep the money flashing and watch for their breaking point. The man he was playing in cards just now was on quite a winning streak. Joseph had been steadily losing a lot of his apparently vast amounts of money, only occasionally winning a hand. Finally, Joseph saw in the man his spirit of greed and confidence take over. Time for the big one. "Well well, it appears you're handling yourself nicely. If we keep playing like this, I'm liable to lose all of the gold I'm visiting with. How's about one final wager? I'm afraid I'll have to stop after this. All or nothing? I'll double the pot and you'll put in to match, comparably little more than what you've won from me anyway." In truth the man had won 10,000 by this time, but the bet called for him to put in 12,500. Only a fraction more, to be sure, but it was nearly all of the money the man had to his name. "Alright, I'll see your bet," answered the man, dollar signs practically popping out of his eyes. With that Joseph went to work. In a flurry of slight of hand and magic, Joseph arranged just the cards each of them would be getting. Moments later, Joseph's coin purse was nearly overflowing while the burly man tried to think of a way to explain the situation to his kids. Once again Joseph was struck with a heavy guilt. He had once been an adventuring mage, a keeper and seeker of great knowledge. However, when he fell on hard times he used some of his knowledge for personal gain, manipulating people into funding him, though he had to keep on the move because of it. People in an area eventually figure out they were played if left to communicate with one another. He'd promised to stop once he had enough money, but hadn't he earned enough by now? "Ha!" he laughed, breaking his silence. "Like I could call this "earning,"" he thought.

OOC: I made a rough draft for my character, but now my scaner's not working. WTF?!

Geneviève sat on the edge of the fountain, running her fingers through the clear water. Things were so peaceful here in the Kingodm of Balandor. Why couldn't they be like this in France? She had escaped the war, fleeing to the nearby country after her town was destroyed. But what shocked her was that no one seemed to know about the war. Apparently, Balandor had just gotten out of their own conflict.

Was she technically a refugee? Did she have to spend the rest of her life running? Gen snapped out of her daze, wiping her fingers on her skirt. These were the kinds of thoughts best left behind. She had come to Balandor looking for a new life, not to wallow in her own misery. But still...

She wanted to go home.

Brutus entered Balandor, he was excited to be back in the city after wandering around. His horrible gambling problems had him run to Albana in hopes of riches. Luckily he was good at what he did, and he was headed back to his brother's house in Parma. Then he noticed a man with a gambling stand on the side of the main road. 'Just one game maybe...' ,he thought. He walked over to the man and said, "What's the rules of the game, and how much money do I need to get started?" He was on a four day winning streak, and he felt invinsible.

Joseph did what he always did, or at least what he had begun to do recently. He pushed all feelings aside and got back to "work." "Ah, it's simple my friend," started Joseph, glad that the man was already so confident. That would make this an easy score. "I'll lay out five cards and you have to beat the value on each of them using any of your cards. The amount of cards you cover and the amount of points towards you and towards me will all be counted towards figuring out the winner. All you need to start playing is 5000. Surely someone as strong and intimidating as you has that amount of money on hand, if not more." And so they started, Joseph on his stereotypical beginning losing streak, though he found that the few times he actually wanted to win he had to work hard for it, the man he was facing was good. Finally came the "all or nothing" bet. Once again, magic went to work. Now all he had to do was collect the man's money.

OOC: AnsemTheWise, don't worry. Damion and I have planned out what to do and the action/main story stuff will pop up really soon.

OOC: Uh oh, but that means surprises. And surprises in this series never work out well for the heroes...

There seemed to be a crowd gathering at a stall nearby. It looked like there was a man behind the stand, doing some kind of card trick. No, wait, there was another man on the other side. It was a game.

Or a scam.

Either way, it was also a distraction. Geneviève made her way over, squeezing between the larger people around her. She was near the front now with a clear view. IT looked like all you had to do was beat the dealer's value. An easy game to manipulate, to be sure. The dealer looked like a mage, while the player looked like someone who would cleave that mage in two if he were being cheated.

Again, either way this was a nice distraction from her problems.

Brutus's eyes caught a gleam off of the cards, he flipped and lost. "Hold on. That was definatly rigged. I wager 50,000 that you just cheated me!" Brutus said angrily. Then he slipped a slight smirk. "Sorry, I tend to get carried away. How about this, one more game. If you win, you get the money, but if I win I keep the money. In case of a tie, I'll take my money, and you keep yours. Everyone wins," Brutus said as he calmed down.

Joseph was caught, he knew it. The guy easily could have called him out, so why didn't he? For whatever reason, he was thankful. "This man could see the shimmer of illusion on the cards, something that even many mages can't do," Joseph thought to himself. He needed to look out for this one. While the ax wielding man had said that there were three options, Joseph knew enough to know that only two were real options. Joseph could either tie the match, leaving them at neutral, or he could lose the "big match" in hopes that the crowd around him would be influenced by seeing it into losing more money to him than they would have otherwise, enough to cover his losses in this match and more. Knowing the simple-mindedness of people he could probably get most of them to lose a lot to him. "No," he thought. "I said I needed to stop so I'm going to stop. I'll split our money just like we had it and walk away. This man could've ratted me out or even killed me. If ever there were a wake up call, this would be it." The magic came to life on the cards just as they were being flipped and the two men tied evenly. The money was split accordingly.

"Thanks, but that's enough games for me. Time to head back to good ole' Parma," Brutus said smiling. He turned around and was staring into the eyes of a chubby guy in a purple robe. "I'd like to try my hand at this...ammusing card game," the man said. Brutus leaned into the man and said ",I'm not so sure this is a game you want to play. I believe this man is done for the day." The chubby man then walked around Brutus and sat infront of the table. "Shuffle those cards. This is a game I can't afford not to play!" ,the man said smiling.

Joseph was a bit confused. He'd seriously meant to quit right then and to head out job hunting. "Ah, what can it hurt. I'll just play and lose a hand to this guy and take my leave," he thought to himself. The cards were all laid out before the chubby man when he did a curious thing. He pulled out a card of his own. "Sir, I'm afraid that that card isn't even a part of the game," Joseph corrected him as politely as he could, but the card was really weird. It looked like nothing he'd ever seen and it was brimming over with magic. "It's my trump card," the man said. He then held it up to his forehead and spoke a word under his breath which somehow seemed to carry. "Adveni" Suddenly with a grand burst of magic and light a massive Gigas took the man's place. It had the head of a lion and the body of an eagle, like a reverse griffin. Within seconds a number of people were slaughtered. "Dang!" shouted Joseph. He'd never expected to get into this type of situation when visiting Balandor. "Alright, then. Let's see just how good at magic I still am."

Geneviève backed up quickly as the red light swallowed everything around it, a Gigas appearing where the man had once been. But why? Why would he summon a Gigas?

A thousand thoughts rushed through her head at once, most of them screaming "RUN!". Instead, she reached inside of her jacket, pulling out four throwing knives. She had hoped that she wouldn't have to fight again. Why was it that when you escape conflict, another always follows? Gen checked the her leg quickly, she always kept a dagger on her under her skirt. Sometimes a few knives just weren't enough.

This looked like one of those times.

"Go! Get out of here!" Geneviève ushered peole out of the area, turning to the Gigas. "I won't let you start another conflict!" She threw two of the knives at the Gigas, the first muffled by the creature's mane. The second, however, struck it in the temple.

The great beast roared in protest and swept it's claw out blindly. Meanwhile, Joseph pulled from the stores of magic he held within him. "Flame Lance!" he shouted, and the spell flew from his hand and struck the Gigas in the snout. Luckily for Geneviève she was out of range of the claw, having backed up earlier. Joseph, however, was caught up in the attack and was sent sprawling off to the side. Righting himself, he used a healing potion (no use wasting Mana) and readied another spell.

OOC: I'm going to have Joseph steadily get better and better with magic so that there seems to be some progression, but I wanted him to start off at least a little bit powerful.

Brutus pulled his axe from it's normal position on it's back, and swung it at the Gigas's leg. He then proceeded to swing again and again. This made the Gigas very frustrated, and he immediatly struck Brutus in the head with his tail. Brutus was sent flying backwards into a food stand, and that made fourty pounds of wood fall on him. "Ouch...that kinda hurt!" Brutus said laughing. He got up and started walking back over to the Gigas, readying his axe...

Due to the assault Brutus had launched at the Gigas's leg it seemed weakened and about to collapse. Joseph thought fast and decided to cast Mana Thrust at it's knee. Luckily it was a quick ability to use, because much longer and the Gigas would have regained balance. Instead it was sent toppling down and open to attacks. "Let's try this again, Flame Lance!" he called, and sincerely hoped that the girl who had struck the Gigas moments before would follow up and finish it off, or that the warrior with the ax would go wild on it.

Meanwhile, due to notice from concerned citizens, the palace guard managed to stop another of the cloaked figures from transforming into one of the beasts and captured him. The third, however, escaped the city, having seen the one get captured and the other one being successfully held back, possibly even being defeated, by three individuals. He had to report this to their leader.

"That's it!" Geneviève charged forward, leaping off of the wounded Gigas' knee onto its back. She drew the dagger from under her skirt, driving it into the beast's head. "I told you before; I'm not taking this!" She twisted the dagger, falling off as the Gigas wrenched upward. She hit the ground flat on her back, rolling to the side as the Gigas fell where she was.

Was it dead? Gen crept forward, pulling the dagger out along with the knife she had thrown earlier. She had only seen Gigas' before. Never fought one. And that mage...

"Are you alright?" She shouted to Joseph. It looked like he took quite a hit. That man witht he ax, however, seemed to be in better condition than when the fight started.

Great. A macho man.

Brutus put the axe back on his back and walked over to the three of them. "Well that was pretty unexpected, but I think it went pretty well." Brutus said smirking. Then he turned around and started walking off. He was hell bent on getting to Parma and dropping off his brother's money. They'd never have to touch another cow after he dropped off the load of money he'd won in Albana. But suddenly a guard walked up to him and said, "That'll be 70,000 for the damage to that man's stand." Brutus sighed and handed the guard his money. 'Crap, only 30,000 left. Well it'll pay for him to get a decent vacation to Greede this summer,' Brutus thought.

"Yeah, I'm good!" he said to her. Yeah, my pride took most of the blow. Try to stop the monster and end up looking like a moron, he thought. "You know, we should probably inform the castle about this," he continued as the Gigas dissipated, leaving the man from before unconscious on the ground. "They may want to know about it, and who knows, we could get some work out of it. I know I'm in need of a good job, and I'd forgotten how much fun it is to beat things up." Although he was partially telling the truth, especially about needing the job, he kind of over exaggerated on the enjoying it part to try to show off and make up for the nose dive he suffered earlier. Still, it did feel nice to have some REAL magic pumping though him again. "Come on, you too!" he said to the ax wielding man.

OOC: If anyone does something wrong, especially me, feel free to call them out on it. Just try not to be harsh.

"Actually... I'm in." Gen replaced her weapons, watching Joseph. He didn't seem... together, somehow. Then again, he was pulling scams on the side of the road...

The guy with the axe... he'd probably be in it for the glory. And the money. And to show off. She'd seen too many of those guys before.

But what she really wanted was asylum. Hopefully, she would be able to ask the... did Balandor have a king, or queen? She had never thought on that before.

"My name is Geneviève."

"Nice to put a name to the face. I'm Joseph, but Seph is fine," answered the mage. He felt as though he was being judged a little and didn't like it. Probably because there was so much for him to be judged over. This might be his chance to redeem himself, however, and he was not going to let it slip him by.

"Hey, nice to meet ya'll. I'm Brutus, I guess I've got nothing better to do at the moment. My brother needed the money I just had to pay for those damages, but seeing as how I might need more now I guess I'll tag along. Oh, and don't worry about if things get kinda dodgey...I've got an axe!" ,he said with a slight wink. Then he pointed to the castle and said, "So it's off to gain audience with the king?"
