I'd love to be part of the gaming industry, and I'm going to try and attend university for game development so I can get into that, or start my own company. In particular, I'd like to be involved in either writing / concept design, or testing / reviewing.

I would take any job really. Being in the video game industry would just be a bonus. I did study animation once, and I have friends in Volition who make the Saints Row games (I actually knew about Saints Row the Third years before it was announced, but I wasn't allowed to say anything. They shouldn't have put freaking big posters of it hanging around the office >.>) But, yeah, if I get a job in the game industry it would be localizing Japanese games into English :P

I'd do just the same as Oishii.

Most video game jobs actually kinda suck.

Tester: Yeah you get to play the game before everyone. But you get to play the shittiest version of the game, with many bugs and glitches. Also as a tester you must test EVERYTHING which involves but is not limited to.

A. Running into a wall from every feesable angle to make sure it functions

B. Running across every single surface of the game over and over again

C. Playing through each event 100+ times to make sure it functions the same way everytime

Moderator/Community Leader: Put it this way, if you take one of these jobs you will be forced to interact with a game community. Each game community is mostly awesome with 95% stupidity rates.

Actually, being a tester isn't ALL that bad. But it is true that you have to have a passion for gaming before you even consider becoming a tester. I does take work, but I believe it's worth the effort because you get an insight to the game's production and it has AMAZING pay. Y'know, based on your work and time put into it.

And take into consideration there are many different fields involved in just a single game.

How did you become a tester?

My resumé in particular. You can actually apply to be one.

For me, video games have been my passion ever since i was little. I have an extensive knowledge on consoles, games, accessories, and the like. Also, i'm in a 3d animation class at my high school, always with the highest grade in the class for the past 2 years. i'm also an early student at IADT, working towards my degree in game production.

So i submitted my resumé, with recommendation letters, and they were pretty impressed, so yeah. xD

You don't need a passion to be a good tester, you need to have an unhealthy obsession that can only be broken by continually doing the same thing over and over again.
