Text ( PG14 ) Hawkie's Stories - CSI New York: Double Trouble

Recommended Posts

Recantly I'm totally obsessed with CSI ( Crime Scene Investigation ) New York. Even thought it contains a lot of certain scenes I like it and I'm watchin it almost every day.

So I decided to write my own episode ( how original  ).

This is a PG14 for a reason. It may contains strong language, hard violence, sexual themes, drugs and other things that we usually meet in a CSI crime show.

It can also be hardly readble, cuz I know a lot of things connected to science and biotechnnology. That means you can find exspressions used in a world of science.

Characters of the CSI team belong to CSI team. Others are made up.

Hope you'll enjoy. ;)

PS: This is a first story where I am not using chapters.

It was a begging of the day when Mr. Robert Moore was going in his office. He was lawyer in New York City which wasn’t exactly easy. But he also liked to help people.

Right now he was waiting for traffic lights to turn green for walkers. His mind was full about a meeting with an important customer, so he didn’t noticed a noise in a smaller street. He only had a few streets to reach his warm office.

But an unexpected thing prevented him from continuing his usual way.

Mr. Moore clearly heard hard coughing that was coming from the smaller street near the place where he was standing. He carefully went closer. For every step he made, he could hear coughing louder. Then he finally saw what was causing it.

There was a boy, partly leaning against the wall. His hands were weirdly set behind his back. He didn’t look well duo to the coughing he was causing and injuries all over his body.

“Hey kid! Are you alright?” Mr. Moore carefully asked.

Boy didn’t respond. He only took a look at him. For a moment he just stared and then quickly ran to the man.

“Please… I… need… help! Please sir! Help!” boy yelled while coughing.

“Hey take it easy. I’m not gonna hurt you.” man said and placed his hand on boy’s shoulder.

The moment that hand touched boy’s shoulder, boy moved away very quickly. Like the hand was covered in fire. Man gave him a weird look as the boy moved away even further.

“What’s wrong? Are you afraid of me?” man asked when he found out why are boy’s hands set behind his back.

Boy’s hands were clapped in handcuffs very tightly.

“Is police after you? Did you do something?” man asked again what made boy upset.

“No I… I didn’t… I need help sir…” boy kept yelling.

“Why?” man asked.

“Please… you gotta…” boy tried to say when he suddenly collapsed.

Man first made sure if boy is still alive and called the police along with ambulance.

Mac Taylor was the second on the scene along with some of his workmates. Stella Bonasera went making photos when Don Flack was talking with Mr. Moore.

Boy was now lying on a hospital trolley, while Sheldon Hawkes peer - reviewed him.

“So what can you say about the boy, Hawkes?” Mac asked.

“No ID, from 12 to 16 years old, maybe a bit too much slim body, short blond hair, blue eyes…” Hawkes started.

“What about his condition?” Mac continued.

“A lot smaller injuries, from bruisers to cuts. Bigger bruiser around his neck… possible that someone wanted to choke him. Dislocated hands are consequence of the handcuffs. They were so tight that bone simply left its usual place.”

“Witness said he was coughing. Do you know the reason?”

“It could be from the bruiser around his neck. Perhaps someone was squishing his neck, but not long enough to kill him. Boy needed to clear throat for breathing. ”

“It could be from a brutal fight. But where did the criminal had got the handcuffs?”

“Beats me. I’ll take his clothes now. Should ambulance bring him into hospital or headquarters?” Hawkes asked.

“Better in the headquarters… I have a feeling someone wants to finish what he had started.”

Just before ambulance men came to pick the boy, Stella came to make some more pictures of the boy.

“Any signs of battle?” Mac asked her.

“No, just a usual trashy New York’s street. But I did find this.” she said while showing on a piece of paper.

Mac carefully spread it to see an interesting thing on it. Piece of paper was actually a handmade map of the bigger part of New York. It was very detailed and had a big cross right on the… police station.

“What do you think it means?” Stella asked.

“Don’t know, but something’s is telling me that the boy wasn’t playing treasure hunt.” he answered.

“What’s up? Find anything?” Flack broke in on.

“Not sure. You?”

“The witness’s name is Robert Moore. He’s a lawyer in a building over there. He found this boy this morning on his way to work. Boy was just standing there and when he got closer, boy begged him for help. After that he collapsed.” Flack read his notes.

“Anything unusual?” Mac asked.

“Boy was afraid of his touch.” Flack answered.

“Then violence could be possible. Victims of brutal violence usually can’t stand a touch from others, cuz they think, they will be thrashed again.” Stella said.

“Let’s get back and see what we can found from his clothes.”

Meanwhile Danny Messer was examining the boy at their headquarters. Hawkes already took the clothes and handcuffs off him and started searching for DNA or any possible fingerprints. Danny took some samples from his neck, hands, nails and face. While he was working Lindsay came, holding a folder.

“Any luck?” she asked.

“We’ll see.” he said while giving her DNA samples. “Do we have anything from clothes?”

“Well… Adam analyzed weird spot from the pants. It appeared as the… crystal in liquid.”

“You mean LCD? Thing they use for televisions and cameras?”

“Yeah and we found traces of gas on his shoes.”

“Hmm that kid sure had a wild night. Was there anything else?”

“We’re still analyzing his clothes… but the clothes seem second –handed. Pants were so big that he probably needed a strong belt, when a shirt was too small for at least two sizes.”

“You think he’s a tramp?”

“No, if he was a tramp he’d be dirty. He was still a bit clean when we found him. You can even smell a body lotion on him.”

“Then we’ll have a far harder job.” Danny sighted.

Stella and Adam were examining kid’s clothes. Boy was dressed in little too big pants, strongly tight with a belt and shirt with short sleeves. Both pieces of clothes seemed even older than a kid who was wearing them. Adam took a small white piece from the gym shoes while Stella poked around pants pockets.

“Do you have any idea what that little thing is?” Adam asked as he showed on white piece.

“Tooth paste?” Stella guessed.

“Pretty close. It’s a chewing gum.”

“One more DNA sample. Send it on analysis.”

“Right away ma’am!”Adam said with a smile and went towards lab.

Stella kept poking around pockets, when she felt something deeply in it. It was another piece of the paper with a drawing – map of another NYC’s part. This one was very detailed too, with some marks as well. But it didn’t marked places like police station, like last, but flats and hidden streets.

“Another map of the treasure…” Stella thought.

“Anything new?” Lindsay asked while coming.

“I found another treasure map.”

“Me too.” Lindsay smiled.

“Really?”

“Just kidding. But I did found where those clothes were bought.”

“Ok, I’m listening.”

“The first time I saw him, I knew those clothes aren’t custom made for him. So I searched for the second hand shops. There are plenty of them in town, but only one sells clothes by mark that boy was wearing.”

“So, what are we waiting for? Let’s go get that treasure.”

Danny was committed to watch over the boy in case if he would wake up. He examined him for more than four times, until he made sure there aren’t any clues left. Now he was just staring in his equally breathing body. It was rare to have a living victim in crime lab. Most of them were brought here dead. Soon after, Sid came and Danny helped him carry the boy into an X-ray room.

“Good news and bad news, which one do you prefer?” Sid asked.

“The one that’s gonna help.”

“Then the bad news? Like Hawkes said, his both hands had been dislocated. I also found a lot fractures almost everywhere. Ribs, collarbones, femurs, humeruses… but all of them are pretty old. This one of the rib seems about two years old… and this one of the humerus is only two days old.”

“Then the kid sure had a dangerous life. Are there any good news, at least?”

“He only needs to rest for those injuries to recover. For now I need to take his blood and DNA. Will you help me?”

“Of course.” Danny said while bringing gear for taking blood and DNA.

Sid gently opened boy’s mouth and took some of his saliva with a cotton bud. Danny tightened the tape on kid’s upper arm while Sid stuck injection in the vein. Blood filled the injection in a sec. While removing it, Danny noticed something else there as well. Many barely seen scars covered boy’s wrists and forearms.

“How could I didn’t notice them?” Sid said after Danny showed them to him.

“Simple, you were too busy taking X-ray pictures, blood and DNA. What can you say about them?”

“Most were caused by injects and sharp objects… but they’re all very old. The youngest could be caused about 9 months ago.”

“You mean to tell me that kid’s a drug addict?” Danny said shocked.

“Well he could be, but it’s also possible that someone else did that to him. Also those old scars are in direction, impossible for him to cut it.”

“Man, I really want to meet his parents. How can they leave kid like that?” Danny said while hitting the wall.

“Now, now Danny. You need to calm down or you’ll make everything worse. We’re detectives and we’re not resting until we solve cases.”

“Yeah… you right. Sorry, I didn’t know what I was doing.”

“I think it’s the best thing to take kid back in that room and wait until he wakes up. I’m sure he’ll be less terrified if he wakes up beside the person who will listen to his story.”

“Guess that will be me.” Danny said while bringing boy back to the room where he was at the beginning.

Hawkes kept examining the handcuffs he took down from the kid’s wrists. Handcuffs were tightened on the one of the tightest levels. He also found some blood on it.

“Poor kid..” Hawkes thought.

But while taking the blood from it, he noticed thing stuck in chains. With tweezers he took it. It was a human hair, a blond one. But it couldn’t be boy’s, it was a way too long. Along with DNA and blood, he sent it in lab on analysis.

“Mrs. Elizabeth Tillman?” Stella asked.

“Yeah that would be me. How can I help you?” lady with small figure answered.

“I’m with New York’s police. Could you tell me who bought those clothes?” Stella said while showing the photos.

“Hmmm… let’s see”

Woman stared in those photos for almost five minutes. Lindsay meanwhile checked over the shop. Luckily they were no shoppers in it. But most of the cloths seemed in a good shape.

“Where do you get all those cloths?” Lindsay broke woman’s thinking.

“If I recruited correctly, most of them are from the nearest flats. Some are quickly made by me. You know just design and quickly sawing together the cheap fabric.”

“So, do those photos bring any bells?” Stella interrupted.

“For the pants I’m not sure, but I do remember making that shirt. That was about four years ago.”

“But who bought it? Was it a boy around 12 and 16 years with blond hair?”

“No, I think it was a taller man with a baseball hat. Unlike others, he just picked the first thing he found. He really seemed in a hurry.”

“Do you know the name?”

“None of the shoppers ever have told it. Nor I fully remember that day four years ago.”

“Right, thanks for helping us. Please, call us if you see that man.”

“May I ask what’s going on?”

“We found an unconscious boy who was clapped in handcuffs. He was wearing those clothes we just showed.”

“Well than I’m glad that I could help.”

Adam watched open mouthed when he checked lab results.

Some were of big help, when others just a bigger mystery. He decided to talk with Mac about this.

Mac was now in his office, looking at papers of some old unsolved cases. Murdered man, found in a trash, robbed woman, many unknown disappearances…

“Have a minute?” Adam asked while coming in the office.

“Hope you have some answers.” Mac signed.

“I can’t promise anything, but that’s what I have.”

Adam took papers from the folder he held and read what was on.

“For a start I have samples from the boy’s body. I have unknown matching DNA from his neck, chewing gum and behind the nails. I didn’t find anything in CODIS, but it’s a male’s DNA.”

“Boy was then struggling against unknown man, but how do you explain man’s saliva on boy’s neck? Maybe we have a pedophile in our case.”

“Could be possible. But the biggest mystery is this.” Adam said while showing a plastic bag.

“What’s with that hair?”

“We found it in handcuffs. It can’t be his right?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, it’s too long, but DNA shows on his one.”

“DNA actually shows on related one. He could have a sister.”

“More like a twin sister. DNA looks almost like his.”

“Yeah and I have another surprise for you. Hawkes found out traces of cutting on the handcuffs. Looks like someone tried to free him.”

“Did you found out what could be used for that?”

“My guess is this.” Adam said while showing a picture on his handheld computer.

“Garden scissors? But it’s impossible to cut iron with it. They’re meant for plants and hedges.”

“Maybe person who tried to free him knew that, but still hoped it will work. Traces of cutting really prove he tried his best.”

“Do we have a name of that person?”

“Unfortunately no, but there’s one place where it might be – Central Park.”

Meanwhile Hawkes managed to put boy’s hand bones on rightful place. He also needed to give him intravenous infusion because boy still haven’t woke up and showed signs of dehydration.

“Find any clues?” Danny asked while watching.

“Perhaps they might be in Central Park.”

“But that place is huge. How do you expect to find there anything?”

“Place where we find the boy was near the southern part of the park. We can start there and… well keep looking until we find anything. I’m gonna rejoin there with Stella.”

“Good luck then.” Danny said while Hawkes left.

After visiting the shop with clothes, Stella got a call from Mac. He told her about the clues and location, when Lindsay was called back in the lab. Stella met up with Hawkes and some other forensics. They all began searching for any sighs of battle while Flack went showing the photo of the boy to the gardeners.

“Do you really think we’ll find anything?” Hawkes asked.

“Clues can be found everywhere… speaking of which what is that?” she said while showing on cartridge.

“Looks like from Caliber 6,5. Something was shot by the bullet not far away from here.” he said while putting it in a plastic bag.

“Or someone… “ she said when she noticed someone in the bushes.

It seemed like a teenager in early twenties, wearing a gardener’s uniform. When he noticed her, he quickly ran away.

“Hey come back!” she shouted.

“I’m on it!” Hawkes shouted when he ran after him.

“All forensics unites in the park. We have a fleeing suspect dressed in a gardener’s uniform.” she said in her phone.

Hawkes kept running after the suspect. But the teenager didn’t act like a suspect. He seemed to be running away in a fear, like he messed up something. Criminals usually flee with an anger or hatred in their eyes. Which gave him a perfect idea. He suddenly stopped which made the teenager confused.

“You don’t need to be afraid. If you didn’t do anything wrong you can easily come here and talk.”

Teenager stopped and stared at the CSI detective. For some time he just stood there, but soon walked back to Hawkes.

“I did something, but I don’t know how to explain that.” he said with almost tears in his eyes.

“It’s alright. You can tell everything at the police station.”

“Am I going to be arrested?” he panicked.

“It depends on what you did.” Hawkes said while taking his phone. “Stella? I got him, but I don’t think he’s a suspect. More like a witness.”

Half of an hour later, Hawkes, Flack and teenage gardener were in an interrogation room. Teenager sat nervously while Flack checked some papers.

“Scott Thomson, age 26, gardener at Central Park?” Flack asked.

“That would be me…” Scott said quietly.

“No need to be nervous, just answer on a few questions. Okay?”

Scott nodded and Flack gave him a photo of the boy.

“Do you recognize him?”

Teenager nodded.

“We found him locked in handcuffs this morning. Is there any way you can explain why?”

“It’s difficult to explain…” Scott sighed.

“Did you get shot?” Hawkes asked while looking on his all – time supporting left arm.

He nodded again and revealed a bandage on his arm.

“I worked a nightshift yesterday, when that kid rushed. He even crushed into me while running.”

“Can you describe response?”

“He was completely… terrified. When I tried to calm him down, he started panicking and even tried to run away. That was when I noticed handcuffs on his hands. I told him to wait in the bushes when I went to get garden scissors. Then I returned back and tried to get those handcuffs off. I kept trying… until those two appeared.”

“Who appeared?”

“Two men, really huge ones… they had hoods on so I couldn’t see their faces. They shouted to give them a boy or they’ll shot me… I didn’t have much choice. Gun was pointed directly in my head… I…”

“Take it easy… what happened after that.”

“One of the men kept pointing the gun at me when other roughly picked the boy, holding his neck. I thought he’ll choke him! Man was holding him like he was a plastic toy. I couldn’t help myself so I used moment when gunman wasn’t watching to down the man who was holding a boy. Boy managed to run a way, but those two were very angry about it. Gunman stayed while other went chasing the boy. I ran away too, but the man started shooting at me until he ran off the bullets. Then he just went away.”

“How did you take care of the bullet that got you?”

“I went to my girlfriend’s apartment. She works as surgeon at the medic clinic. I lied for where I got bullet… but I have it here if you need it.” he said while giving them a plastic bag with a bullet. “It nearly hit the main vein.”

“Why didn’t you inform police about it?”

“I was scared of those two. I live near the Central Park and get in situations like that all the time. Central Park is a dangerous place during the night.”

“Do you have anything else to say?”

“Well I was just wondering… how is he? You know the boy. Will he be alright?”

“Thanks to you he seems he managed to run away from the man. He’s broken backed a bit, but he’ll be okay.”

“Thank goodness… that was the scariest night ever.”

“Can you tell exact time?”

“I think it was about four a clock in the morning, maybe later.”

“Right, thanks for your help. You may go now.” Flack finished.

After Scott left, Hawkes looked at the bullet.

“Possible match to Caliber 6,5. Maybe we can indentify gunman.” he said when his cell phone started ringing.

“Hawkes here… Danny?... right… we’re on the way…”

“What is it?”

“Kid just woke up.”
