tutti frutti. Before I knew enough about the series that the story had a timeline to it, I sort of accidentally skipped over Chain of Memories. Before I got the game I thought that it was something like a gambling type of game until later. Did anyone else really skipped over Chain of Memories before playing KH2? I know I did since it puzzled me like crazy trying to figure out how Sora and co. got into the pod at the beginning of KH2.

No. Ignoring the annoying card system and the rehashed worlds, one thing I liked about CoM was how it perfectly led to KH2 (and made me feel proud that I didn't skip it)

In a way I did, and in a way I didn't. I started with KH1(didn't finish since disc stop reaing when I beat Oogie Boogie), then I played COM on my computer(didn't really play since I couldn't get pass after the tutorial and I disliked the card system). Then I played KH2. I then had to watch a walkthrough of COM(reasons explained before). I bought KH1 again, watched a walkthrough of Re:COM, then played KH2 for the umpteenth time. I was a noob back then(before 2006).

I did skip over it and wasn't that confused in Kingdom Hearts 2. In a sense you really didn't need to play chain of memories to get 2, but after I found out there was another game, I bought it and was so upset that I didn't play it before two. lol

Yes and no. I'm pretty sure I knew the whole plot of both Chain of Memories and KH2 before I played Chain of Memories (back when I didn't care about spoilers), but I beat Chain of Memories way before beating KH2.

But yeah, I strongly recommend to newer fans of the series that they NOT skip over CoM. Whether you like it or not, the card system is just something you have to experience at least once, and of course, you'll be completely confused as to Sora and Riku's situations at the beginning of KH2 if you skip CoM. In fact, the only game in the series which I think would be acceptable to skip is Re:coded. Like seriously, if you just watch the final cutscene and the secret ending in that game, you don't need to know anything else, assuming you've also seen the Reconnect video.

CoM was my first KH.

It's silly to skip it, because it's THE most important game in the series.

Just curious, why do you say it's the most important one?

Every KH relates to it in some way. In BBS Castle Oblivion is developed, KH1 leads into it, KH2 leads out of it, it's vital to the plot of Days, and the ending of Coded.

If you take the game out, have fun making sense of any game besides KH1.

Funny story -- I went to the store (a few years ago... 2009ish) and bought Kingdom Hearts 1. Came home, started playing it, and I was sooo confused! There were all these flashbacks, and none of the characters I was seeing/playing matched the ones on the case, and it wasn't until much later that night, I realized the GameStop worker gave us the disc to Kingdom Hearts 2, instead of Kingdom Hearts 1, even though the case we brought up to the register was indeed Kingdom Hearts 1.

So yes--I did play Kingdom Hearts 2 before Re:Com. And Kingdom Hearts 1. :)

P.S. Don't worry, I didn't cheat the store out of their money. We saw the Kingdom Hearts 2 game case there, and we looked at them both and they were both the same price. We were going to buy both at the same time, but we only had enough money for one.

That makes sense. I hadn't really thought of it that way, in terms of the Castle Oblivion concept--I guess I just took it for granted. Thanks for the insight! :)

Haha that is funny!

I did. When I first got into Kingdom Hearts, KH2 was already out, so I bought KH1 and KH2, thinking that the plot would go on normally, since well, KH2 was the sequel. You can guess I was really confused when I started KH2, but after more investigation I realized I skipped Re:Chain of Memories. I finally got to play it this summer actually xD

That happened to me too. I was getting Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction and they gave me Crack in Time. It's a good thing I always check to be sure.

But yeah, I actually played CoM immediately after I finished KH1. (I started 1 not long after CoM came out)

i didnt, but i just dont have it. CoM is one of most important games in main story. If it wouldnt have happened, namine wouldnt have found those sleeping memories inside sora about TAV and RXAx. If that wouldnt have happened, we wouldnt know anything about CO.

i loved CoM. the story was awesome. i actually enjoyed the card system (to a point) and it led perfectly into KH2. im so glad that ive grown up with KH so that i dont miss a game in-between or anything. i was 9 when KH1 came out, but didnt play it until i was 11. so when CoM came out i got it on the day it released :D its in my top 5 favorite GBA games.
