animemylove 439 Posted November 28, 2011 I am currently in my first year of comic school, and it has always been my dream to create my own graphic novel series. i live in an 100 year old "mansion" with 25 other boys who for the majority are vulgar, arrogant, idiots .. whom i refer to as "frat boys". The school was founded by an american comic legend whom i never even heard of (joe kubert) which apparently is a hugeee deal to these people and being the anime fan i obviously am .. i am now a piece of shit, everything i admire, everything i respect and hold dear is instantly worthless in their eyes bc i like it. seeing how manga is a comic style, i figured i'd fit right in with the other nerds ... no, this is not the case. now i have dealt with a less severe situation than this before, but i had friends in those instances to talk to about anime with and play games, watch vids with and what not but yea .. these people don't really exist here one hour away from home. now i could try and suck it up and let these stressful feelings build, between the hours of work without sleep and irritating comments, but seeing how i've had experience with depression and anxiety just 1 year ago (suicidal thoughts and extreme depression).. this doesn't really seem like the #1 choice so far ...sooo, any opinions? Mangas have a huge impact on the comic society and is an amazing art form. Drawing mangas requires way more skills than western comics. They aren't even worth it for you to consider what they say for one second so screw them! Also keep in mind that you have our full support! i think the same way! manga practically controls the comic industry, but thats besides the point, i purposely try to stay silent in class and work in my own room so i can avoid this kind of shit but they want to see me under the bus. why pick a fight with me? i have nothing against american comics and said nothing to start a riot, but even so i wish i could have at least a few people here to hang out with casually or talk to in person so im not devoured by these jackasses! today i got back to school after break and i simply asked if this guy if he could move his stuff over a little so i could plug in the charger to my laptop and the douche said it wasn't his problem and to not come near his shit. instead we had to fight for 5 minutes just so i could get him to move his portfolio an inch so i could reach the outlet! You are there to study and not to let your life made to hell by some jerks. Also I'm sure there are a few people who have nothing against manga and you. Try to look for people who stay silent while others try to pick on you. And maybe it is my feisty personality but in that situation I would've just firetrucking swipe his shit off the table. That's what he get's for being an asshole. So find just a few people in the school to hang out with, don't stay silent stay for your rights if necessary seek support and ignore the insults. Well, anyway maybe create a common ground by reading whatever is by that american comic legend. It might be good. I'm not saying conform but having common ground means you can at least have a conversation. They also might be under the impression that you're looking down on them because of not reading whatever is by that guy. Maybe flatter some of what they read, then talk about some of your favorite manga. Either way, someone is bound to like at least one thing that you do.
