axel91 161 Posted November 28, 2011 What? In my honest opinion, VIII and IX were superior to the overrated VII. You should definitely play them. no thanks. After watching the FF Retrospective videos on gametrailers.com, I was interested more in 7 than 8 and

hatok 6,413 Posted November 28, 2011 I'll get it eventually. Recently, I decided to give the FF games a try. So far, I've finished FF1, which was very enjoyable. Now I'm playing through FF2, but school work is slowing me down. My plan after that is to get FFIV: The Complete collection (I'm skipping FF3 since I heard it wasn't good on the DS), FF5 & FF6 on the GBA (if available on eBay somewhere), then download FF7. After that, I'm planning to get the HD version FFX, then FF13 after that. Let me tell you, if you find FF1 very enjoyable, you'll have no problems with 3. 3 is is largely considered bad for the same reasons people consider 1 or 2 bad, if you don't think they're bad, there's no reason you wouldn't like 3.I know it's already been said, but I heartily recommend IX after you're done with these, judging by the games you DO want to play, IX seems right up your alley. I heard 3 was bad becuase of the crappy graphics on the DS. And frankly, they look ugly to me. Now if it was a 2D version of FF3, then I wouldn't even hesitate. Rob 5,571 Posted November 28, 2011 Maybe I'll manage to gulp some chunks of FF-shit over an extended period of time until I get my pizza. We'll see. If that happens I'll remember to make a thread about how my final opinion on this game is and if struggling through the bad part of the game was worth the good ending. I'm a master of metaphors. Good idea.

In that case, have you considered looking for it? FF3 has been released in its original 2D form a few times recently.Do you have a phone that could play it? I know it's been released on iPhones/iPods/iPads, but I don't have any of these devices. And it was never released on the GBA or the PSP. Rob 5,571 Posted November 28, 2011 Have you considered just emulating it? On KH13, we do not discuss such things as emulating and anything related to it. If you want to discuss that, talk in the chat and/or PM's.

wayfinder823 477 Posted November 28, 2011 I bought it. It was a mistake for me. I played through half of the game hoping for it to get better. But nah. That's why I am not interested in XIII-2 I am looking forward to vsXIII tho'. Same here!!! Is that how most FF games are? There is such limited control over my character during combat. It annoyed me like crazy!

Rosie 3 Posted December 4, 2011 I bought it for PS3 shortly after it came out in the UK, and I actually really enjoyed it. I don't get why people just play some of it and claim it's shit- what do you expect? I've NEVER played a FF game that didn't rely on character development (I know the early ones don't, as much, but I think IV onwards definitely do) and FFXIII had BUCKETLOADS of it. It was linear? So was X. Just sayin'. And THAT isn't completely, constantly slammed for being boring. XIII had a load of action, too, and distinctive characters, and the storyline was, although initially a little bit confusing, at least a decent one. And the gameplay greatly depends on whether YOU can be arsed with keeping up with it- if you avoid Auto Battle, which is easy to do, and design your own Paradigms, you have COMPLETE freedom over what you do. XII let you control more than one character, and I really struggled with it because it felt slow and clunky and the AI was always faster than I was. And, honestly, the game-controlled characters never seemed to fail me, besides the annoying grouping together around a Sentinel, which really grated if I was fighting a strong enemy- when you have all the characters in one place, at... Chapter 11, I think it is? I can't remember the exact point... you can fully customise EVERYTHING. Control isn't really that limited, besides where they move- and if you pay attention and switch to the right paradigms you CAN get them to go where you want (e.g. when Sazh is using Commando, every three attacks he takes a step back, moving him further out of the range of attacks; using Ruin means the character will leap back, etc...) And I really was pulled in by Hope and Lightning (and even Snow and eventually Sazh and Vanille)'s character development over the course of the game. I can safely say it's not my favourite game, and it DOES drag, but a lot of the "flaws" (not being able to backtrack, not many towns and town NPCs) are already explained through the plot- these characters are fugitives, they're hated by EVERYONE on Cocoon, they CAN'T go back or wander around towns all the time! As for XIII-2, I'm kind of not looking forward to it AS much- I like what we've seen of Noel's character, but Serah kind of irritates me, as does the moogle, and the plot seems impossibly random, considering what happens to Lightning. Not to mention that Caius (I think that's how you spell it, not sure) has the same voiceactor as Kain from IV and I can't STAND his voice. I'm probably still going to get it, since I like the look of some aspects of it, and hopefully the story kind of redeems itself. I'm just praying they don't end up pulling a X-2 and ruining the sacrifice and such at the ending of XIII, like they did with TIdus' in X.
Zenithia 305 Posted December 5, 2011 tutti frutti. I got FF XIII for the PS3, and I more so missed being able to free roam in a town. I more so like being able to interact with people in a town or city and be able to do some of the traditional RPG based thing, like purchasing items, equipment, etc. Though I didn't mind too much being viewed as an outcast. I just hope that in XIII-2 that you're not slammed with a tutorial every hour or so into the game. Also, I found it a bit harder to level grind in the game. It wasn't until later in the game that you were given more enemies to fight in order to increase the paradigms. Since we've got little to nothing, outside of what we've already received, on versusXIII, I'm settling on XIII-2 for now.
Lu Xun 2,069 Posted December 5, 2011 No... Just rented it 2 times but never finished the game.

I've NEVER played a FF game that didn't rely on character development (I know the early ones don't, as much, but I think IV onwards definitely do)I'm not sure if 'rely' is the rgiht word, more like 'Had character development and great gameplay and awesome story' and FFXIII had BUCKETLOADS of it. It was linear? So was X. X is nowhere near as linear as XIII. In X, it's possible to do such crazy things as backtrack. It has sidequests, branching paths, actual NPCs. Just sayin'. And THAT isn't completely, constantly slammed for being boring.Actually, it kind of is XIII had a load of action,In cutscenes mostly too, and distinctive characters, and the storyline was, although initially a little bit confusing, at least a decent one. And the gameplay greatly depends on whether YOU can be arsed with keeping up with it- if you avoid Auto Battle,There's no point in avoiding autobattle until very late in the game, autobattle is far faster and more accurate at choosing abilities. which is easy to do, and design your own Paradigms,I'm pretty sure you cna't beat the game without custom paradigms you have COMPLETE freedom over what you do. You must have a severely limited idea of what 'COMPLETE' means. Being able to better imply what my character does isn't 'COMPLETE' control. XII let you control more than one character, and I really struggled with it because it felt slow and clunky and the AI was always faster than I was. You must have had trouble with XIII then. How so? XIII only uses accesories and a weapon for items. There is no full customization to be found anywhere, unless you mean being able to access three other nerfed paradigms Control isn't really that limited, besides where they move- and if you pay attention and switch to the right paradigms you CAN get them to go where you want (e.g. when Sazh is using Commando, every three attacks he takes a step back, moving him further out of the range of attacks; using Ruin means the character will leap back, etc...)That's a painfully awkward way to move a character around, and is largely unintentional anyways And I really was pulled in by Hope and Lightning (and even Snow and eventually Sazh and Vanille)'s character development over the course of the game. I can safely say it's not my favourite game, and it DOES drag, but a lot of the "flaws" (not being able to backtrack, not many towns and town NPCs Many? The towns are shint backgrounds with no enemies, and the NPCs barely count as such.) are already explained through the plot- these characters are fugitives, they're hated by EVERYONE on Cocoon, they CAN'T go back or wander around towns all the time! Sounds like the situation in X. And why do shops send their products to fugitives? As for XIII-2, I'm kind of not looking forward to it AS much- I like what we've seen of Noel's character, but Serah kind of irritates me, as does the moogle, and the plot seems impossibly random, A FF plot, impossible? Why I never! considering what happens to Lightning. Not to mention that Caius (I think that's how you spell it, not sure) has the same voiceactor as Kain from IV and I can't STAND his voice. I'm just praying they don't end up pulling a X-2 How could it? and ruining the sacrifice and such at the ending of XIII, like they did with TIdus' in X. It's kind of a given that Vanille and Fang will return in the good ending. Comments in boooollld.
