Kaiso 2,764 Posted November 24, 2011 To those that are celebrating it (and those that aren't anyway ) : HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!! WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR? I myself am thankful for a lot of things ranging from Cellar Doors, to sexy rave parties. Today my family decided that I get to cook a lot of dishes today? Hooray.....D: But so yeah. What are you guys doing today? Is your family cooking @ home or going to meet others somewhere? Are you currently out of town? What do you guys typically eat today: The traditional turkey or something else? Discuss everyyyythinnnnnng~ 2 Koko and Sora96 reacted to this

Keyblade King 12 486 Posted November 24, 2011 I'm thankful that we don't have this holiday in the UK. Enough turkeys get slaughtered as it is. And then you watch American Football, which is one of the most animalistic sports known to man. And then you pray about being thankful for things? What about those who worked through their lives, earning everything they have? Why should they have to be thankful about anything? Everything they have, they got themselves. Nothing was given to them, so they shouldn't have a need to be thankful for it. I never understood this holiday, if somebody could please explain why it is so popular, I would be very thankful. (See what I did there.) 1 4Everbee reacted to this

(See what I did there.) I'm from the UK as well, even though i don't celebrate it i do understand its importance. If i'm correct, it dates back to when Native Americans brought the settlers food and provisions to survive (and i think they all ate together? not sure on that one) But the point is whether you're religious or not, its to take a step back from every day life and remember that compared to some people, you've really got it lucky. Time to thank your family for being there etc. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong everyone cause I'm not even American haha
Kaiso 2,764 Posted November 24, 2011 Yeah you are right. Historically, it was a tradition for celebrating basically what Crimson said as well as a celebration for the harvest of the year, but over time the holiday grew and grew and eventually became an official national holiday. That's the actual reason why it's a "holiday", but now I don't think it's really much of the "giving thanks" part as it is for family coming together once in a while and having a time to get together without the burden of work, school, etc. My family especially this is the holiday where most of my family comes compared to others, and I do believe nowadays for those who celebrate it is more about family than it is anything we're all thankful for just having the opportunity to be together like this and it has nothing at all to do about religion. But I guess for the "giving thanks" part aside from family: regardless of how a person has earned anything Thanksgiving is a moment for any person to take a moment to look at their lives and be thankful for the things they have and that they've been fortunate enough to be where they are today. 2 Crimson and Koko reacted to this
