Key2Oblivion 37 Posted November 14, 2011 So one thing I want to mention is that yes, I should have done this earlier but the point still remains that she should have given us a heads up. Anyway, for my English class we needed to write a paper then submit it to this plagiarism check site. Our professor made it clear that if we didn't use the site we would get an automatic 0. So I just finished my paper, and the site is telling me I need to pay a fee to use it. It's not a huge amount, only $7, but my parents aren't home right now, and I don't have a credit card of my own. So basically that means I'm getting a 0 because I can't pay tonight. If she had given us a heads up about a fee then this is on me, but I've already asked a few friends of mine they all said that she didn't say anything about a fee but they all payed it. So is this fair and I'm just making a big deal out of nothing, or is my professor wrong for not saying anything?
4Everbee 1,365 Posted November 14, 2011 No it not really fair. But you could always just call your mom or dad and ask them the credit card number 1 Queen Tery reacted to this
Always 309 Posted November 14, 2011 Yeah, I think the fact that she didn't give a heads-up about the fee is pretty weak. I've never even heard of a fee for one of those sites--I think they should be free for students to use through the school. I think the fact that there's even a fee at all is even more lame than the professor not telling you about it in advance. Can you find any way to get around the fee, like a free trial or something? Maybe you could e-mail her and tell her the situation--hopefully she would understand.
Oishii 3,987 Posted November 14, 2011 No, it's not fair at all. It would be holding back lower economic students or just kids that don't have the means to pay for it. Do you have her email or phone number? Check your syllabus to see if you can contact her, maybe email her the paper so she knows you did have it finished on time. Talk to her the next day too. But it's pretty idiotic that you would need to pay. My school has us using turnitin.com and I never had to pay a fee.
Snow 1,800 Posted November 14, 2011 That's not fair. You should not be graded by how much money you have. You should be like, "Firetruck you. I am not doing anymore assignments you give me because this is utter bullshit." I said that and now I'm suspended,
Queen Tery 4,591 Posted November 14, 2011 thats bullcrap, have you talked to the teacher or your parents about it? 1 4Everbee reacted to this
Exlon 165 Posted November 14, 2011 That's stupid. My school uses turnitin.com for checking plagiarism, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't have a fee. What site are you using?
axel91 161 Posted November 14, 2011 that sucks. If it's not too late, try talking to your professor or try getting the credit card number from your parents
Rob 5,571 Posted November 14, 2011 That's just unteacher-like. Better hope the whole class or the majority didn't pay for it.
AnsemTheWise 1,114 Posted November 14, 2011 It's just not right that you have to pay for the site. The school should have worked something out for that. Or at least, like you said, give advanced warning.
