Chapter Twelve: Captured

 

Roxy’s head was burning up from the fever. After being injected by a disgusting brown liquid for the first time, her body was in vein. She kept trying to wake up, but heavy fever prevented her from doing it. The only thing that she could do was to open her eyes a bit.

She was in another completely white room, lying on a metal bed. Her both hands and ankles had metal rings as rings on ankles were stuck together. Roxy kept trying to look around the room where she saw familiar person on the bed next to her.

 

“Dimi? Is that you?” she asked weakly.

 

Boy stopped staring in something fluffy next to him and went to her. He put his arm on her forehand as he stared in her bright blue eyes. Dimi’s eyes were so empty that Roxy nearly freaked out. But she did recognize his face and his messy brown hair.

 

“You’re burning up big time. That’s not good.” he said quietly.

“I… didn’t know what I was doing… sorry for not saving you.” she said weakly when she started coughing.

“Hey… it’s alright. Nobody expected you’ll make an action movie entrance and save the day. But speaking of wich what were you doing there? And how did you get captured?”

“It was a mission to save a new Rookie. Things went great, when he… told me that you’re being kept there as well. I thought I’ll be able to set the whole thing up, but… others were so strong. I didn’t know they can use EMBs so fast. One guy got me… and injected me with something.”

“It’s the drug… invented by them. Drug can’t do anything to people, but for Ials is like the strongest chloroform. I pretty much get used to it, but you… for the first time… it’s very risky.”

“What do you mean?” she asked while coughing even more.

“First time is dangerous at everything. You may have no idea how dangerous can be for your body. I nearly fell in coma for the first time. You don’t show any good signs either.”

“You think?” she said when a woman in lab coat came in the room.

 

Dimi quickly got back on his bed when woman went to lying Roxy. Woman put her hand on her forehand to sense fever. She sighed and set some kind of strip around Roxy’s head. Then she left, leaving confused girl back in the room.

 

“What is that?” she said as she touched the thing on her head.

“It’s a device that measures your body’s capacity. They also used it on me, to get report of my health. Weak or sick ones can’t be used for experiments.”

“I see… I just have thought they actually care for us.”

“They used to… but not anymore.”

“What do you mean?”

“There was one guy, man in grey who was different from others. He never wanted to hurt innocent kids. All what he wanted was to get some money for his sick wife. She had cancer and he didn’t have any money for her healing. So he went looking for a job, which will bring him a lot of money. But ended up here.”

“You sure seem to know him very well.”

“Yeah, he was committed for B1 case and that means me. He never wanted to hurt me, but had no choice. While doing experiments on me he kept saying sorry and even protested when they did very hard experiment on me.”

“Where is that guy now? And is he ok?”

“He’s in a different abby now… doing some other things. I really miss him. Phil once even used an experiment excuse just to talk with me.”

“His name was Phil? What a brave man. I never realized that can be good guys in this group.”

 

Then was just silence. Dimi patted the fluffy thing next to him again, revealing to be Whirl. His spirit mate in form of the wolf was resting in Dimi’s lap. Just like the boy, Whirl seemed weak and tortured as well.

 

“Why don’t you use Whirl to run away? You sure have a powerful inner power.”

“Wish I could, but they put control collar on him. If he tries to use any inner powers, collar shocks him with powerful EMB. Not just him, but I also get hurt enough for them to catch me.”

“Why don’t you take it off with changing?”

“It has ability to sense Whirl’s changes and adjusts on his neck. Why are trying so hard to escape? No offense, but I failed many times.”

“We need to… or Men in Gray will do something horrible. I saw it while breaking in their computers.”

“What you saw?”

“Plans for not so friendly looking machine. They’re building it, using us as raw material!” she nearly shouted. “Plus they’ll probably use me as well… as energy source.”

“I… I never imagined it…” he said with a shock.

“We need to escape NOW!” she said while standing up.

“Roxy! Wait, you’ll…” he tried to say before she fell on the ground.

 

Stuck rings on her ankles prevented her from moving legs. Her body was burning up from the fever, giving her another coughing attack. Dimi quickly ran to her, helping her up and put her back on the bed. She was breathing fast, like she had just run a mile.

 

“Don’t push yourself so hard… you’ll only ended up in even worse condition.”

“But… we… need…” she said while coughing.

“Look! You’re too weak to do anything now. Be a good girl and rest up until you get better.”

 

Roxy only stared in his empty eyes and fainted. Strip on her head suddenly started blinking like a flash light. He knew what that meant. Her condition was so bad that she became ill.

Dimi removed damp locks of hair from her forehand. She seemed so little and innocent, while sleeping.

 

“Hope you’ll have a nice dream…” he said while returning back on his bed.

 

Somewhere else, some other boy felt her illness.

 

“What’s wrong Os?” Nikki asked when she saw tired look on his face.

“I just… feel a bit dizzy. Can you teach the Rookie while I take a short nap?” he asked.

“Well yeah, but are you sure you feel alright?”

“I’ll be fine, just teach the Rookie to become an Ial.” he said while going back to the tree house.

 

When he got in, he firstly took his jacket off and looked in the mirror. He stared in a blond haired boy with a wolf by his side. Then he just fell on his knees, feeling pain in his head.

 

“Roxy… what are they doing to you?” he said while looking at the bed with Spark on it.

 

Pain soon reached his limits making him suffer even more. With it Os fainted and fell on the ground.

 

 

PS: I'll post the next chapter soon. I'm in pretty much similar condition as Roxy is now ( sick ), so I'll have plenty of time to write it. Cept for the horrible headache and fever I feel good, so cut the worries.

Chapter Thirteen: From Rookie to an Ial

 

When Alex finally got out of the lake, Os left. Nikki gave him a towel for his wet hair.

 

“Where did he go?” boy said referring to Os.

“He felt a little tired and went back in the tree house. So I’ll need to be the one that’s gonna teach you some basics.” she said while summoning her arrowblade. “Show me your arrowblade first.”

 

Boy looked on Blaze next to him and summoned his red arrowblade with green shards. He did that with removing his Trinity and pulling the string. Nikki looked at it with an interest, while Misty stared in Blaze.

 

“You got a wolf’s bow. There three different types of arrowblades. Each of them is built for one equal ability of an Ial: speed, smartness and strength. Shards on yours represent wolf’s fangs, which means you have a strength for you strongest ability.”

“What does snake’s bow mean? You and Roxy have the snake one right?”

“It means smartness, cuz water snakes always use their heads for the hunt. Most of the other animals just run after the first prey they see.”

“Hawk’s bow then has speed right?”

“Yeah and I think you got pretty good spirit mate as well. Have you learnt his name to discover your power?”

“I think it’s Blaze, as for powers… it’s light.”

“Light? Hmm don’t remember if anyone ever got a power like that. Either way we’ll test it. You ready?”

“For what?”

“For the test silly. You gonna show me how well you shot with your type of arrows.”

“What am I going to shot?”

 

Girl smiled while opening the box full of frisbees. Suddenly she threw three at once in the sky. Alex was a bit surprised, but he used one of his light arrows to hit two of them in time.

 

“You’ll need to work at your reflexes a bit more. It can be pretty tricky in real battle.”

“What’s next?” he asked when she threw another, big one.

“Shot it as many times as you can.”

 

This test was a bit harder. Summoning arrows in a blink of an eye was a difficult thing to do. He felt like someone who just read a lot of books. His mind felt heavy after shooting at least fifteen arrows in just few seconds.

 

“Not bad at all, you shot it eight times. But you need to focus on your mind more. If you won’t, you’ll shot someone else instead of the target. Which brings us to another one.”

“Will I need to shot Frisbees again?”

“No this time we’ll experience the real fight.”

“Eh real fight?”

“Yeah, don’t worry I won’t be hard on you. For the fight you’ll only use an arrowblade without arrows.”

“Wait without arrows? How can I fight without them?”

“Have you ever watched any medieval movies? You know, where knights are fighting?”

“Well, yeah. But what do knights have to do with tests?”

“We’ll have one right now.” she said while hitting him with her arrowblade.

 

Her bow in a shape of two intertwined snakes would probably hit him if he didn’t raise his bow. He now knew what she meant about medieval movies. Arrowblade had a blade in a name for a reason. It wasn’t just for shooting arrows, but for close combat as well. He now remembered the fight between Roxy and that woman Lam. Roxy didn’t actually use any arrows, she only used bow as a blade.

His thinking was again interrupted by Nikki. He dodged it and tried to hit her. But Nikki was much faster than her younger sister. Even thought he tried hard to hit her, she elegantly dodged while hitting back.

But while fighting Alex felt something else. Back in the school days he never had fought unless he needed to. That was usually because of other boys who had taken his stuff from him. In that kind of times he had fought for getting it back. He hated those fights. But that fight with Nikki… was much different. He didn’t feel any anger or reason to fight, just his energy flowing through his body.

With fast moves and ensuing steps, was nothing else what could make him think different.

Suddenly she stopped much further away from him. With unfold hand, she informed him to stop.

 

“While fighting with me… tell me honestly what you felt?” she asked while walking towards him.

“It was… nice. Like it was only a game not a fight with weapons.”

“Then you felt it in a right way. Ials never fight with anger even if they have to. Fight is only one of the ways to make things right.”

“We fight only if we have to then?”

“Yeah, but sometimes we didn’t fight as much as we’re today. Nai’s keep saying that we must be ready. He may feel another Rookie who needs help.”

“Is that because man in grey?”

“Mostly yes. Since two Ials were firstly captured, they are chasing us. Luckily those two were able to escape before they hurt them too much. But still… I have no idea where did they learn so much about us.”

“So you’re saying they know more about us then we do?”

“I don’t know… look let’s focus more on your training. I still haven’t taught you some things about spirit mates.”

“Wow can’t wait.” he said while looking at Blaze.

“Now, the first thing you need to know about your spirit mate is that he’s part of you. He’s half of your soul who is actually wiser than you to guide you. The most important thing is that you trust him as well as he does. ”

“How can I know if he can trust me?”

“Why don’t you ask him yourself? I can’t, but you can.”

 

Red wolf came closer to him, rubbing its head against Alex’s hand.

 

“Blaze… do you trust me? Or you rather think with your own head?”

“You sure have some sense of humor, but I do trust you. Well, as long as you don’t convince me into doing something stupid.” Blaze said much to his surprise.

“Spirit mates can’t talk with others beside their owners?” Alex asked.

“Except Leo, who can use telepathy, none can understand them. Also when we merge together, others don’t understand a thing we say.”

“So how do we merge?”

“Like this.” she said while nodding to Misty.

 

Black wolf jumped through Nikki who disappeared in a moment Misty touched her. She was a bit different now. Her body was bigger as well eyes changed color, from normal yellow ones into bright blue ones. Merged Nikki stared in him for some time and then changed back.

 

“Spirit mate is the one who decide if you’ll merge or not. You need to tell him when – from inside.” she said while touching part of the chest where his heart was. “Try in a wolf form for a first time.”

 

Alex nodded to Blaze who, just like Misty, jumped through him. For a second he felt like he’s being transported into a dark place. But in the other second he was back, staring lower than before. He moved right hand and surprisingly moved his front paw. No more hands and feet, but wolf’s paws.

 

“You look great Alex.” Nikki said while stroking his head.

 

He made some steps towards the lake, to look his reflection. It showed him a muscular shaped wolf with shiny red fur. His eyes were the same green one he has had before change. But while sniffing around, he found out that he sniffs much better than before. He could smell flowers that grew on the other side of the lake, butterflies above his head, even some animals that played in a lake.

 

“In a wolf form, you actually become one. As a wolf, your smell and hearing become much greater. You also can jump on most unreachable highs as well as you can run faster than normal wolf. Try to walk to get use to it.”

 

Walking wasn’t exactly easy. With all four paws to move, plus unbalanced tail it was like walking on toes. He even fell for couple of times.

 

“How do you feel in wolf’s skin?” Blaze’s voice asked.

 

Boy somehow understood that Blaze is now inside him. With whispering voice he answered him back.

 

“Pretty weird. Everything is harder on four legs.”

“Try to get used to it. Something is telling me that you’ll need your wolf’s body to get something dear to you.”

 

After changing back Nikki showed him how to change into hawk. This form sure was something. The moment he found himself covered by feathers, seeing everything like from the spyglass and looking at red wings instead of hands, he felt awesome. Even his weight was lighter.

 

“Alright this move is pretty tricky one. Watch Misty and flap with your wings just like she does.”

 

Nikki stayed in her human form to guide him easier. If she merged with her, Alex probably wouldn’t understand her saying.

While flapping up, trying to follow Misty’s lead, he couldn’t think about anything. He was really flying! But not in the dreams, for real! After seeing all those changes in hawks, he tried to imagine the feeling. But it wasn’t like he imagined it would be.

It felt much greater.

 

“Now just unfold your wings and forget about everything. It’s just you now.” Nikki shouted, much farther from below.

 

Black hawk was still in front him, showing him how to glide. He now also started gliding, letting pure wind carrying him. Alex felt how wind was gently blowing through every feather in his wings and tail.

 

“Maybe wolf form isn’t for me… but this form feels like I was born to do this.” he thought.

“Or died…” Blaze interrupted.

“Oh come on! Don’t you think that’s the coolest thing ever happened to me?”

“Despite on your boring life… let’s say is.”

“Hey, aren’t you should be wiser than me?”

 

While arguing with himself, Alex didn’t see where he was flying. Suddenly a tree appeared right in front of him, making him crush right into it. But it wasn’t just a tree that he crushed against too. He also crushed at weird animal that along with him fell on the ground. The moment he hit the ground, he returned back into his human form. Nikki rushed, but instead of checking Alex, she firstly checked an animal.

While picking it up, boy could clearly see it. It was a bat with four wings. Bat’s skin was dark purple colored with transparent flying peritoneum and clearly black eyes. Girl placed it back on the tree while he watched.

 

“Luxbats. We need to watch over them the most.”

“Why’s that?”

“They’re very different from other animals. Instead of eating, they absorb light, just like plants. During the day, they absorb light to fly in the night. And during the night they pollinate pollen from most of the trees.”

“Like large bees then.”

“Yeah, you could say that. Speaking of which it’s getting dark. We’ll continue your training tomorrow. Luxbats will take flight soon, would you’d like to see it?”

“Sure, I mean I had never watched even a normal flight.”

 

Together they left an empty part of the forest, to get back in the tree house. Just before entering in, Nikki stayed on the balcony, staring into a beautiful sunset. Alex could now fully see the whole place. Endless forests around amazing crystal blue lake, mountains surrounding other part and beautiful waterfalls, right next to the Nai’s tree house.

When the last sunbeam disappeared behind the mountains, countless lights started shining in lower parts of the forest. Those were Luxbat’s wings, filled with sun light of the day. They started flying around like giant fireflies.

 

“I never had imagine bats could look so amazing and beautiful.” he said while staring in hundreds of flying lights.

“Me either.” she smiled. “I remember the day when both twins dragged me into a cave full of bats. They were very scary at first, but after some time of watching them, I thought different. I can almost feel their breathing while just looking at them.”

 

Sky was darker when they finally decided to go back in the house and get some rest. But Alex didn’t see the difference when sky got darker. He could still see everything as it was a shiny day. It was his ability that he discovered – cat’s eyes in the night. He wanted to keep that ability as a secret, but regretted after Nikki tripped herself at something duo to the dark.

 

“You okay? I’ll turn on the lights.” he said while pressing the button next to the door.

 

Lights revealed obstacle on the ground. It was unconscious Os! Nikki quickly took him into her arms, trying to wake him up. He was very pale and his breathing was slow. Misty and Blaze also tried to wake Hydro up. Hydro was as well as his owner unconscious and pale.

 

“Os wake up! Come on bro! Don’t do this!” she shouted and nearly slapped him for several times.

 

But slaps were just he needed. He slowly opened his eyes, staring into his sister’s worrying face.

 

“What the heck are you doing on floor?” she nearly shouted.

“Guess… I took… my nap.” he said quietly.

“I know that you were tired, but can’t you use bed for that? I mean, it’s much more comfortable than floor.”

“Sorry, I really felt dizzy and then I just fainted. This could be from Roxy.”

“Why are apologizing to me? Plus… jeez you’re freezing! Why the hell did you remove your jacket? Thank god you got that scarf.” she talked while helping him up.

“Don’t worry I’ll be… ahh chu… alright.” he said while sneezing.

“Get in the bed. I’ll make you some tea.” she said and went to the electric stove.

“I’m fine really.” Os kept complaining.

“You said the same thing before you went playing Acceorbi.”

“So? What’s wrong with that?”

“You came back with three broken ribs and fever. Now do me a favor and get in bed already. Do you really wanna end up with pneumonia like last year?”

“Alright, alright I’m going.” he said while going towards the bedroom.

“You better get some sleep too Alex. You’ll need your strength for more training tomorrow.”

“Right, good night then Nikki.”

 

When he got back in the bedroom, Os was already in upper part of the bunk bed. Hydro was curled up next to his legs. Alex silently went onto lower part and while covering himself with sheets, Blaze curled up as well.

 

“Can I ask you something Os?”

“Sure what is it?”

“What’s Acce – thing?”

“You mean Acceorbi? It’s a game – sport meant only for Ials. If you want I can show you how to play it tomorrow.”

“Sounds nice can’t wait. Good night then.”

“Good night.”

 

Two boys slowly fell asleep as they shared dreams with their sleeping spirit mates.

 

PS: Acceorbi is taken from latin words accelero and orbis which mean speed and circle. Also name of the new animals, Luxbats comes from Lux which means light.

I feel kinda better know, but I still get some headaches from time to time, so still not to worry.

Hey there!

 

Unfortunately not a new chapter, but some interesting stuff to tell!

 

Ok, first at all I'd like to show you the amaziest drawing of Roxy, that was drawn by an ex - member of kh13 and my very best friend. So here it is http://destatidreamx.../Roxy-287175629

• Wondering how I got ideas for Roxy and Alex? Well I think it's the Kingdom Hearts to blame. The friendship between Axel and Roxas really has really touched me... which had brought me into creating those two characters. Axel became Alex ( younger, not that spikey hair ) when Roxas became Roxy ( I really injoyed making a cute girl from the awsomest kh character ).
• And how Os popped in my mind? Ventus and Roxas look pretty much the same, huh? No mistake they could be twins.
• Wondering about Nikki? Watching the sunset with Roxas, Axel and... Xion! ( 'cept Nikki has longer hair and she's also older )
• Roxy's design? Actually I kinda made myself from her. Two pony tails is my usual hairstyle... as for an outfit... believe it or not, it's based on my tennis outfit!

Phew kinda long time since I updated anything, huh? I admid it - school is getting hard. Kinda sadly I needed an injury to have some "vacation" and write some new chapters.

Okay story continue and this week it might continue a bit faster . Enjoy.

 

Chapter Fourteen: Game With Circle

 

As Alex shared his dreams with Blaze’s, some other was trying to be shared as well. It penetrated like a light through the tunnel, making him turning away. But as soon as he turned to it, dream revealed itself to it.

It was Spark’s dream that penetrated into his. Golden hawk just floated there in slumber. Alex imaginarily touched it, when she twitched with entire body.

Boy had no idea how she got in his dreams, beside Blaze of course. Nikki said that Ials can’t communicate with other spirit mates beside their own. Leo was exception duo to his telepathy. But what can inner power of light do?

Without a second thought he placed his hand on Spark’s head. Blaze was meanwhile watching him with an interest. Touch with a hand, made Spark open her eyes.

 

“What… what are you doing here?” she asked, much to his surprise.

“I could ask you the same thing.”

“This isn’t Roxy’s… where she is… what are you…” hawk panicked.

“Calm down, I think you’re in my dream… ‘cept I don’t know why…” Alex said.

“It’s anima abso.” Blaze said. “You’re using it in your sleep as the power of your light.”

 

Suddenly Alex’s hair started glowing as well as Spark’s feathers shine.

 

“It is… so you became an Ial and… is this your spirit mate?” Spark asked while looking at Blaze.

“I’m Blaze… but let’s jump on the other thing to talk.”

“Like what?” Alex asked confusedly.

“You just have discovered that you can use anima abso! Isn’t that weird? Only twins are capable of using it.” Blaze nearly yelled.

“That must be from inner power of light... light is a key of connection.” Spark said.

 

As red and golden hawk talked, boy again looked at the place around it. There were no words that could describe it. He was simply in that place…

Then he opened his eyes.

He was back in the tree house, lying on lower part of the bunk bed. From quiet breathing, he guessed that Nikki and Os haven’t got up yet. While putting his shoes on, two yellow eyes stared at him.

 

“Don’t ask. Dream was real.” wolf muttered.

“You really think so?” boy asked when he saw another pair of yellow eyes.

 

Spark woke up and now staring at him like a cat on mouse. She twitched as Blaze gave her exact look.

 

“Why she doesn’t say anything?” Alex asked.

“She does, but you can’t hear her. She’s still a bit confused from the dream.”

 

Red haired stepped closer, patting her head. Spark surprisingly looked in his eyes. Soon she let him patting her. Golden wolf knew it was him who rescued her on that day. With connected dream of mystery, her head was filled with hope. He’ll rescue Roxy, she just knew that.

Blaze meanwhile, looked around the room. It appeared only Nikki was still sleeping. Os has already got up. Without a second thought Alex left the tree house while Spark and Blaze followed. He soon reached the rocks that Os has sat on yesterday.

Blonde was swimming in the lake while playing with his own spirit mate. Alex couldn’t deny it. Lake’s water seemed crystal clear, almost calling him to jump in. And so he did.

When he got his new clothes, he also got special – looking underwear. After reading a note beside it, he found out that underwear can also be a swimsuit. His clothes were soon on the floor and he was ready for a jump in the lake. With a sudden splash in the lake, he completely freaked out the blonde haired boy.

 

“Hey! How about some privacy! That’s my spot.” Os shouted.

“Sorry, it’s just looked so great!”

 

Blonde was about to say something when golden wolf jumped directly into his lap. She nestled up close to his body as he patted her fur. Os felt like having his sister in his arms, but shape of the Spark’s body sooner or later convinced him that shiny golden fur isn’t Roxy’s hair. With those thoughts a teardrop slipped down to his cheek. Spark licked it away which tickled him a bit.

 

“I need to tell you something.” she whispered, using connection with Hydro.

“What is it?” Hydro asked instead of Os.

“That new Rookie, who’s an Ial now… can also use anima abso. “

“Is that special ability of light?” Os asked with his mind.

“It must be, there’s no other explanation.” Hydro muttered.

 

While those three had a conversation, red haired watched with an interest. Each time they talked, their hair or fur started to glow. Just like an old radio when it’s sending the signal. Then he realized that he’s still in the water. Alex swam towards the centre of lake, making Os following him. Together they swam to the giant waterfall where water was slowly falling on their shoulders.

 

“Why did you take a swim so early in the morning?” Alex broke the silence.

“I didn’t sleep well… so I kinda wanted to keep myself busy…”

“With going swimming in the middle of the night?”

“It was nearly morning when I jumped in. Water always calms me down, showing me flashbacks.”

“What kind?”

“Me, Roxy, Nikki also Dimi and Leo usually came here to play. Water is connection between our inner powers. Just like I can meddle with water, Roxy’s electricity conducts water when Nikki’s mists are born from water.”

“What about Dimi and Leo? How are their powers connected to water?”

“Well they’ll say that every storm begins at the seas. That explains wind. As for telepathy… I’m not sure. Leo said once that when he’s using his power in water, he feels it much clearly.”

“Wow, you sure are close all of you.”

“Yeah we were… but now only Nikki is left. Leo is obsessed with saving his brother and Roxy… she’s gone too now.” Os said as he began to cry.

 

Now Os wasn’t afraid of showing his emotions. His tears even more wetted his drenched chest. Alex didn’t know what to say to a boy whose twin sister was captured just because of him. He slowly put his hand on Os’s shoulder.

 

“Say… why are you so close to her? I understand brother’s love, but it feels there’s something more.”

 

Blonde rubbed his tears as he looked more deeply on red haired. He tried to smile when he began to talk.

 

“We both have just reached four years… when our mum was killed in a car accident. Since that day I had a feeling like everyone is leaving me. Three years later dad left too. Right in front of her, he hanged himself even thought she screamed not to. After that day I wanted to protect her at any cost. Neither of our parents was capable of that. Only I and Nikki were…”

“I kinda know how that feels…”

“Did you have a brother or a sister?”

“No, but I had a very good friend. I met him in elementary school plus he was four years younger. We usually hanged up together… but some bullies kept interfering. After I entered high school I have never seen him again. Only once… in newspaper… when it was written that his mother killed herself with a kitchen knife… right in front of him.”

“What’s this world coming to.” blonde sighed. “I think we better go back or Nikki will yell at me again. Since we started living on our own, she completely replaced mum.”

 

When they got back on the shore, both boys were surprised.

 

“Weird… didn’t I leave my clothes here?” red haired asked.

“So did I… but where are it?”

 

Suddenly pair of black pants started floating around as well as green jacket and white sleeveless jacket. Clothes were floating in the air like invisible person was wearing them. Os frighteningly hid behind Alex when someone started laughing. Cloths went flying through the air and landed right in front of their feet. Raven haired girl smilingly appeared.

 

“Got you!” she smiled.

“Sis... you scared a shit out of me!!!” Os nearly shouted.

“Good joke, but you didn’t scare me.” Alex mumbled.

“Just wanted to call you to come on breakfast.”

 

When Nikki left, boys put their clothes on. Os seemed embarrassed duo to her joke.

 

“Does she always scare you like that?” Alex asked.

“Not quite, bet she only wanted to be funny.” Os muttered while putting his blue scar on.

“Say… why do you wear that scar? Isn’t it a bit too hot for that?”

“I know… but that’s the only thing left from my mum…”

“Oh… sorry… I didn’t mean…”

“Let’s just go on that breakfast. Can’t wait for waffles.” blonde muttered while running towards the tree house.

“Wait waffles? Save something for me!!!” Alex ran after him.

“Too late.” Os smiled.

 

Tree house in which Nikki and Os lived had three rooms. Room meant for sleeping with two bunk beds and many closets, small bathroom and huge place meant to be living room, kitchen and dining room at once. Boy sited around small table while raven haired was still bringing things to eat. Blonde immediately took some waffles and spilled it with almost the whole bottle of chocolate syrup. Alex tried some of it too, but instead of chocolate syrup he put some marmalade on. It seemed to be made from some sort of very sweet berries.

 

“Where do you get all those stuff? And how is everything working without electricity?” red haired asked confusedly.

“Electricity is here. Right behind that giant mountain over here, are many storm clouds. One single lighting makes electricity capable of lighting over million light bulbs. Lighting Catchers intercept every lighting and send its energy here.” Nikki started talking.“As for the stuff… mostly things are from here. But some things are from real world as well.”

“How is that world built anyway? All this deal with worlds and dimensions is making my head spin.”

“I can show you on very simple way.” blonde smiled as he ran towards big computer screen. “Austen created some good files on my HPC. Just let me find it.”

 

High Personal Computer or just HPC soon got turned on itself. Os began clicking on different places until one big picture of planet Earth appeared.

 

“That’s planet Earth as you know it from usual textbooks. And here’s… “ he pulled smaller picture from it “… second dimension known as Realm of Spirits. To open portals from one dimension to another is very difficult, because you practically need to break a force line.”

“Wow, you’re a good speaker.”

“Don’t believe him. He’s just reading tiny text.” Nikki smiled.

“Sis! That text was written by me!”

“Alright, alright continue.”

“Beside Realm of Spirits, there are also two more dimensions. One is called Hollow Ground and other is called Disortian. Nai said once that Hollow Ground is a place where humans go after their death. There all wills join together and go back on earth when someone is born. As for Disortian… we don’t know how it looks like. We just know it exists.”

“So how exactly did we end up here?” Alex asked.

 

Os shrugged with shoulders as Nikki shook with her head.

 

“Those questions are better to be questioned to Naiser. They’re beyond our understanding.” Nikki muttered “Which reminds me. I talked with Nai this morning, about Roxy.”

“What he said about? Will we go save her?” Os shouted laud.

“Easy bro. After I asked him about that, he said that we really need to finally put together some sort of plan and stop Men in Gray. Leo had already started that operation four months ago. But he’s on his own, practically unable to do anything big. I think we should meet up with him and do this.”

“So, what are we waiting for? Let’s go already.” Os nearly ran to get his bag.

“Wait! He said that we firstly need to teach Alex to use his powers. After all we can’t just leave him.”

“But…”

“No buts. You know the ways in Realm of Spirts.”

“This sucks! It doesn’t going anywhere!” blonde hit the table.

 

The whole time blonde talked Alex looked down. It was his fault again, for taking precious time from brother who desperately wanted to save his sister. Red haired went outside on balcony.

 

“What’s eating you?” Blaze now in a hawk form asked.

“You perfectly saw it! I’m just getting in their way!”

“I know, but that’s not what is truly eating you. It’s Roxy.”

“How do you…”

“I’m you, so I know. You’re not angry on yourself because of your uselessness, but because you made a strong connection with her. You wanna have her right next to you all the time.”

 

Boy stayed quiet when golden hawk flew from the room. Spark landed on his shoulder just like that time when he first met her.

 

“I admit it, I fell in love with her the first time I saw her. When I lay in hospital bed duo to my death, Roxy truly opened my eyes. She saved me so many times and kept doing so. But when I tried to save her… I couldn’t do it.”

“Don’t be silly, you saved me… which is the most important thing. I could be locked up in that lab, but thanks to you I’m not.” Spark muttered under his breath.

“See, you’re capable of saving.” Blaze nodded. “You just need to work of improving it.”

 

Alex nodded as raven haired came with black hawk on. She seemed to have something to tell.

 

“For before… don’t feel sad about it. I didn’t tell the rest of the plan. Nai also said that he senses weird Life Force somewhere on Earth. We should examine it and take you with us. There’s no better way of learning your powers than use it on mission.”

“So I’ll join you on mission?”

“Yeah dummy and after it, well join together a group of some of our friends and go stop the men in gray. Os is already talking with Gabry and Ami.”

“Are those your friends? And what about Leo?”

“Those two escaped once and they might know weaknesses of abbies. As for the Leo, he doesn’t have a cell phone. When they took Dimi he said that he wants to rescue him on his own.”

 

After a conversation they both went in. Os was just about to say good bye to a girl on monitor.

 

“Can you send me Cute? It may come handy on our mission.”

“Don’t you want Rat? It’s better for analyzing areas.

“It is, but Cute also has more data knowledge.”

“Okay, here it is and seeya after your mission.”

“Will do.”

 

Blonde pulled the palmtop from computer, looking at its screen. Suddenly an adorable bunny started jumping from one side to another.

 

“What is that?” Alex asked confusedly.

“That’s Cute.”

“I know it’s cute, but what is it?”

“Curios Unique Tracker of Elegance or just C.U.T.E. for short. It’s a computer program that was created by friend hacker. This program can scan the area or do even cooler things.”

“Oh I see. Is Rat program too?”

“Yeah, Ridicules Analyzing Tracker, but it gets annoying if it scans living objects.”

“Cool! Bunny is really cute.”

“Well, save that for later. We got some training to do if you’ll go on mission with us tomorrow. Meet me outside.” Os ran outside.

 

Alex found him some time later, setting some kind of poles with curved hooks. Blonde then threw him some kind of ring.

 

“Like I said yesterday I’ll teach you Acceorbi, you know game - sport. Nikki told me that you already know how to fly in hawk’s form. In that game you must use your flying skills.”

“So, it’s like football on air?”

“Yeah, instead of kicking the ball in the goal you need to get the ring on the hook, easy.”

“Hmm don’t we need goalkeeper as well?”

“No, rules depend on how many players are. We’ll play one on one which means both of us will play the role of striker and goalkeeper. And during the game you won’t be able to say anything, because we can’t talk in changed forms. You ready?”

 

Blaze flew through Alex which changed him in big red feather hawk with green eyes.

 

“Guess you are.” Os changed too, as Hydro flew through him.

 

Golden hawk carried the ring towards one hook, but red one managed to take it. He nearly reached other hook when a huge bubble of water knocked him down.

 

“We can use inner powers too?” Alex asked himself.

“Looks like it.” Blaze replied.

 

Without a second thought he looked straight at him with his eyes. Weird light rays blocked more of water bubbles which left him surprised. Golden hawk then flew towards the puddles of water. As water touched his feathers, it absorbed every single drop. Alex didn’t want to lose time so he flew towards one hook. Os was about to attack him with his water bubbles again, but redhead was ready. He dodged smaller ones, blocked the bigger one with his wings and used light rays to attack Os. This time he used light rays directly into Os’s eyes. Golden hawk stopped which gave Alex right enough time to throw ring on hook. When he was about to celebrate his win, he realized something was wrong.

For unknown reason blonde changed back into his human form and was slowly falling on the ground. Alex managed to catch him just before he hit the ground. When Os was safe and sound, he started rubbing his eyes.

 

“I… never expected you’ll do that… that sure is a powerful move.” blonde mumbled.

“Did I hurt you? Can you see?” Alex panicked.

“It’s a bit foggy, but maybe I need some more time.”

“How many fingers do you see?”

“Umm four or five… it’s spinning…”

“I only showed you two.”

“Like I said perhaps I need some more time.”

“I’m so sorry for almost blinding you.”

“It’s not a big deal, beside it was my fault. You did that because I was attacking you. I could at least warn you.”

 

Boys kept talking until Os’s sign became better. They again played Acceorbi, which they both agreed was a cool game. Their last game was finished at the late afternoon.

Blonde went towards their tree house as Alex stayed beside the lake. He tried to use those light rays again, making small circles at lake’s water. Soon golden hawk joined him, but it wasn’t Hydro. It was Spark. As she looked in the lake, her reflection turned into girl one.

 

“Roxy… wonder if you can hear me… If you do… I have a very important thing to say…”

 

Suddenly Spark’s hair began shining as well as his. He took a deep breath to say what he wanted to.

Chapter Fifteen: Song of Heart

 

After nearly a day of sleeping, Roxy finally woke up. She felt a bit dizzy duo to the drug. As she got up, Whirl now in a hawk form flew to her. The moment he rubbed his head beside her hand, Dimi woke up. He seemed to be happy, she was awake and fine.

 

“How do you feel?” Dimi asked.

“Terrible… but thanks for ask.”

“You’re welcome. You slept like a dead person.”

“How funny.” she pulled a face.

 

Blonde slowly stood up, checking her look. Bright white shirt and shorts were the only thing that she and Dimi wore. Along with four steel rings, those were the things that she most hated about scientists. Forcing them to stay in closed rooms, isolated from living world already had left a mark in Dimi. He suffered from white blindness, injury caused by staring in white walls. His eyes seemed so empty and lifeless now. But he still showed signs of still living.

When Roxy was about to check her hair, she nearly screamed.

 

“What? What is it?” Dimi nearly panicked from her reaction.

“My hair… is… is…”

“What?”

“Look at it!!! It looks like a nest!!!!”

 

Side effect of having electricity as inner power was… well some kind of changes in different parts of body. Roxy’s electric powers were created in her hair and that was also the reason why she always tied them in two pony tails. Untied hair soon became very spiky and electric.

 

“So, you’re saying… that we’re both captured…unable to escape… with chances of being tortured… and you complain about your hair?”

“Oh, just give me my bands. I look like a cat that was thrown in washing machine and in deep freezer at once!”

“Alright, just calm down. Here are your two blue bangs. They almost took it from your hand.”

“Thanks Dimi, I really don’t know what I would do if those jerks took my only thing from me. Those blue bangs were the last thing that I got from my mum.”

 

Brunette stayed silent from some time, but soon began talk.

 

“Does escaping plan still agree?”

“I don’t know. That room is much more different from usual ones. Plus I can’t heck into machines like lock doors and cameras without my cell phone. I would need some sort of conductor for that.”

“Don’t forget about theses.” Dimi showed on steel rings.

“Right… for those some sort of acid… and gee I don’t know… Everything makes my head fuzzy!”

 

After her last sentence she fell back on the metal bed. She began making her usual two pony tails from each side of her head. Brunette sat back on the bed, thinking about his brother again. Was he really four months outside, looking for him?

Blonde broke his thinking with falling asleep again.

 

“Guess you’ll tell the rest of the plan tomorrow…” he said as he fell asleep as well.

 

But he didn’t sleep long. In the middle of his sleep something started glowing really strong.

 

“Turn off the night light! I wanna sleep…” Dimi mumbled.

 

But it wasn’t the night light that was glowing. Thing like that wasn’t even were in a place like that. The source of the light was no other then Roxy’s hair.

 

“Eh… Rox I think you better wake up.”

“Ten more minutes Os…”

“Hey wake up!” Dimi nearly slapped her.

“What is it?” she mumbled with sleepy eyes.

“I think you better take a look on your hair again….”

“Is it all spiky again?”

“No… it glows. Maybe your twin brother is trying to reach you.”

“I don’t know…” she closed her eyes trying to move further her mind “It’s not him… it’s somebody else.”

“Who? I don’t remember anybody beside you and Os using Spirit Connection.”

“Neither do I…” for a moment she returned back into her mind, travelling through water until she saw familiar face staring straight at her “Wait… it’s coming from… Alex?”

“You mean that red haired Rookie? The same one, that was in the same room as I was?”

“Yeah… Alex… I hope he managed to become an Ial… Speaking of which, I wonder what kind of inner power he received.”

 

She kept forcing herself to come in touch with his mind. Light became more and more shiny, showing her the right way. Suddenly it started running away. Roxy tried even more to follow it until everything became blank. She heard voices.

 

You wanna have her right next to you all the time… I admit it, I fell in love with her the first time I saw her…

 

One voice was definitely Alex’s, but she didn’t recognize the other one that was very similar to Alex’s. Could it be his Spirit Mate?

Voices were distancing away, but she didn’t want them to. She wanted to come in touch with them. Suddenly she started talk in a different tone. Roxy was singing.

 

The time is passing by… when I hope to see you again.

 

Tone of her melody traveled through crystal clear place, reaching the right person. Alex now stared in a reflection of lake, seeing it in a shape of Roxy. Besides drawing there was also one other thing that he loved, but never show it. That simple one thing was singing. Just like when he was little, he took a breath and said the sentence in the same melody.

 

When I look… in the sky… I’m trying to reach your mind.

 

Suddenly the whole place transformed, changing in a simple place that was simply there. Roxy stared in a foggy image of Alex as he stared in a foggy image of her. They both wanted to tell so much about everything when they realized that neither of them have much time. Their song wasn’t over yet.

 

Even though we just met

I know what you meant

 

Alex remembered his death. How he was riding his bike when that van crushed in him… How he lay in hospital for several weeks.

 

My heart was lost,

But then your touch,

It brought it back in reality

 

Roxy remembered her watching over him in hospital. She saw him several times awake, but was always too shy to speak with him.

 

The first thing I saw

Was a silent boy

The boy who was hiding his talent in the pictures

 

Each of them remembered the first face – to – face moment. The moment their eyes firstly met.

 

But now

All I see

Is that we’re both meant to be

 

Blonde partly turned away, to whisper the part when she couldn’t tell her feelings.

But I was a way too shy

 

But red haired held her hand to tell him that was the same with him.

 

Neither did I

Cuz I couldn’t see the light

 

They realized their feelings which were the same.

From that part, both realized their current situations. She – captured, he – on the way of saving her.

No matter how much it takes

As melody and words became stronger, so their memories were. The last very big one was in the broom room, when their touch created connection between them.

Like a lighting in the storm

 

Melody was on the edge of their voices, trying to become even stronger. But instead of that melody became calmer, nicer. It almost sounded like a lullaby.

 

The day we met…

 

Roxy remembered once again how she was standing against that door, preparing to knock.

 

It felt so great….

 

Alex once again saw golden hawk through his window.

 

But it’s so different now

That I can’t explain how

 

I couldn’t say it then

So I’ll say it now

 

The thing I wanted to say to you…

Is that…

I love you…

 

Last sentence was said gently, from the deepest bottom of their hearts. Sentence was true, like their words in song were. Roxy raised her hand, trying to reach Alex, but she couldn’t do it. Between her and him was some kind of glass shield, preventing both of them of them to touch each other. Alex still started in reflection that was slowly disappearing. He tried to grab it with his hand, but reflection disappeared even faster. Girl got a feeling somebody is pulling her away from him. She tried to resist which made her be pulled away even faster.

 

“Roxy! Roxy! Answer me!” voice called.

 

She was back in the abby, with Dimi who called her. Whirl in wolf form confusedly looked in her eyes.

 

“What the heck were you doing?” he asked.

“Nothing… guess it was all in my head. What was I doing?”

“You just stared like a crazy person and your hair was glowing like hell!”

“So it was Spirit Connection! It wasn’t a dream!”

“You sure connected with someone…”

 

He was about to say something more when someone broke the silence with roughly opening the door. There were four scientists with one staring on hand computer.

 

“Case B1 and A3! You’re going to be relocated into different cell. Do not struggle or do anything to escape!” one of the scientists superiorly said.

 

Steel rings on Dimi’s and Roxy’s wrists stuck together. Two men roughly picked them when one of them used some kind of lead to take Whirl. Dimi’s Spirit Mate seemed angry so much that he nearly bit scientist’s hand. But he knew that if he would struggle Dimi would get hurt too. Whirl so just followed like obedient puppy.

Teens were dragged through bright wild corridor. Their feet were freezing duo to cold floor and their naked feet. After some time of walking, they released Dimi and Whirl into an open cell. They didn’t release Roxy. Instead of that, new scientist came.

 

“Well well if it isn’t that an A3 case. I remember you at different name.” female scientist said.

“Zip it Lam!” Roxy said back.

“Did you say anything, you little brat?” Lam grabbed girl’s neck. “Does this look familiar?” Lam rolled up shirt’s sleeve, to reveal scar caused by Roxy’s bolt arrow.

“Scar suits well with an old lady like you.” girl smiled.

“Why you little!” woman enraged and strongly threw girl on the floor. “We’ll see how talkative you’ll be after doing experiments on you. I registered myself for your case. Now if you’ll…” she was about to hit her again when a man holding a hand computer came.

“Don’t treat subject like that! It can influence on our research!”

“Fine, but if she’ll open that wretched mouth of hers again, I swear she’ll end up like C9 case.”

 

Woman angrily left the corridor when man roughly picked Roxy.

 

“Now if you’ll move, you’re wanted in lab number five. Move it.”

 

Man was at least nicer than Lam was. She dragged blonde to another lab that seemed more like a computer room. For a tiny moment girl thought she could escape using hacking computers.

 

“Don’t even think of using your ability to hack our machines. We protected it with over twenty antivirus programs and extremely strong firewall.”

 

Two other men dragged her towards the table awfully similar to surgery one. Steel rings on wrist unstuck when rings on ankles got stuck on the table. Then man with hand computer came along with another scientist. Girl started trembling when she realized which one was it. It was the one who injected her and almost got Alex, Eztli.

 

“So how can A3 case can be even more special?” he asked as he examined her.

“You see here, with that gadget I can measure their ISLE or should I say Inner Spirit Life Energy.” man showed on hand computer. “But her ISLE mysteriously increased during last hour plus her hair was glowing.”

“Oh I see, but can we continue tomorrow. Some of the C and D cases can really tire you.”

“By the way how many C cases do we have left?”

“I don’t know exactly three or four.”

“Never mind that. If you’re unable to do this now, then just take some blood and other samples.”

“Right, I hate that work.”

 

Eztli took some injects and sharp things to take her samples. She stayed calm, because she knew that if she struggles it will hurt even more. Taking blood samples wasn’t very painful neither when Eztli pulled bunch of her hair. The most painful moment was when a part of her skin was taken. But she still remained calm.

When she was taken back into cell, they even didn’t bandage her wound. One of the scientists even complained that she will dirty his lab coat with her own blood. All scientists didn’t waste their time with curing wounds and injuries. They believed Ials can easily heal themselves.

Roxy was back in new cell room. It was the same one where Dimi was pushed, but he didn’t seem to be seen. Blonde slowly opened the door to a corridor. That part of an abby had several cells in same corridor. All cells were opened during the day and got locked during the night. She slowly went to check if Dimi is somewhere in those cells.

After almost an hour of checking she finally found him in the last cell. He was looking under the bed as Whirl growled in a wolf form.

 

“Dimi? What are you doing?”

“Roxy! Are you alright? O god you’re bleeding!” he quickly ripped one of the sheets to stop her bleeding.

“This and that, but don’t worry. This is a scratch of what they usually do. Say… why are you looking under the bed.”

“Oh Whirl smelled something. It’s definitely a living creature, but has a strange smell.”

“Let me see.”

 

She electrocuted her hair a bit just for them to glow. Light of her hair revealed small figure, shivering against the wall. Figure was scared when Roxy’s hair shine of her.

 

“Who’s there?” Dimi asked.

“I think it’s a child…” she stretch her hand “Don’t worry we won’t hurt you. Come here.”

“No, go away! I don’t want this!” child shouted with pitched voice.

“We won’t do anything to you. We are not they.” Dimi said gently.

“Really, we just want to be your friends.” Roxy helped.

 

After Roxy’s last gently word, child carefully left its hideout. It didn’t seem more than eight years old. In fact child was a girl with very dark brown hair, tied in tiny pony tails. Her eyes were in a bit lighter brown color, but they showed some signs of white blindness. Little girl was dressed in a same boring white shirt and shorts. But she didn’t have any steel rings on her ankles or wrists, only some kind of paper bracelet.

 

“Well you finally came out. I’m Roxana, but you can call me Roxy. That’s my friend Dimi.”

“Hiya little one. Are you alright.” Dimi said nicely.

“Are you captured too?” girl asked.

“Unfortunately yes, but now we at least know we have some company.”

“Do you have a name?”

“Yeah it’s C13.”

“No, not your number, your real name.”

“I can’t say it… they will punish me because of that.”

“Come one you can tell it to us.”

“Ok… it’s Alicia.”

 

 

PS: Song is completly written by me. I didn't find any good music, but try to imagine calm music with piano and strings ( like dearly beloved, friends in my heart or missing you ). Chapter Sixteen: Big City of Dark

 

Kid who seemed at least fourteen years old was dragging his last coins out of the pocket. He gave it to a tall man who had a packet in his hand.

 

“Is that it?” man asked angrily.

“I’ll… I’ll bring you more tomorrow. Please just give me this…”

“Fine! But if you say one word about it, I’ll make sure you’ll never speak again.”

“No.. I won’t.”

 

Kid took a package and disappeared while walking through crowd of the people.

 

“What a pathetic kid.” man smiled.

 

Man was in his early thirties, becoming a very rich guy. But he knew that only fair life couldn’t bring you enough money. You have to do something else than just sit in the office all day. That something else was selling drugs to teens or even elders on the streets. Kid who just gave him money was addict on cocaine. Drug was very easy to get, especially in a big city like New York.

After counting all the money, he decided to change his identity. He only took off his hoody and jeans to reveal his financial uniform. With the smile on his face, he went towards the financial company. While walking, he thought he’s alone, but two big orange eyes thought different.

 

“He’s on your way…” it said as it flew away.

 

Doorman said hello to him as he showed his business card. Day went as he planned. From the morning’s dealing and afternoon’s working he’ll go home with pockets full of money. He happily unlocked the door of his office to do the rest of his paper work.

But he couldn’t. Somebody else was sitting on his chair with feet on the table.

 

“Hmm… Gary Taylor… You sure have some history.” person on chair muttered.

“Who are you? How did you get in here?” man panicked as he began to call security.

“If I were you I wouldn’t call your security crew. They’re taking… how I should say… a nap.”

 

Man putted away his cell phone to take a better look at the person who was hiding its face behind his papers.

 

“What do you want?” he said as walk towards the bookcase. Behind some books a gun was hidden. He could easily point it at him, having its life on threat.

“Are you going to shoot me just like the owner of the shop that you shot five years ago? Or you’ll rather kill me just like your ex-wife?”

“What rights do you have to speak with me like that?” man yelled.

 

Person put papers on the table, revealing his face and hand, holding a badge. Man clearly saw shiny letters of FBI.

 

“I rather skip the introduction, but you’re under arrest for murder, robbery, drug dealing… and better not continue. Your file is too full.”

“Let’s make a deal. You let me go and I won’t shot you.”

“What makes you think so?”

 

Man suddenly felt a pain in the hand that held the gun. He screamingly released it when he saw what bit him. It was caused by an animal that looked like dog or a wolf with a weird lightly green fur. Person stood up revealing light green hair identical to animal’s fur. It was a teenage boy dressed in bright jeans and matching green jacket with a baseball cap on his head. But he didn’t carry a gun or any weapon.

He just stared into man’s angry face.

Man who was a criminal didn’t want to get caught. From tiny pocket on his pants he took a pocket knife which he used to stab the wolf directly in the head. Wolf howled as blood quickly came rushing from the wound. He quickly ran towards the corridor as teenager went to wolf.

So, even FBI is looking for him. But he won’t do anything big to run away if he’ll have empty hands. With quick thinking he opened the safe with more guns. While taking the last one something shot him in the arm. It wasn’t a bullet, but a very weird arrow. The same teenager from before was holding a bow, decorated by many shapes of the wings. His face was covered by blood, but this didn’t prevent him from shooting with another one.

 

“Where do you think you’re going?” boy shouted.

“Somewhere where you won’t find me.” man said as he pulled the trigger.

 

Bunch of bullets quickly rushed from the gun. But as they reached the green haired teenagers, they simply flew in the walls.

Boy quickly done a somersault, which helped him get closer to the criminal. He started hitting him with a bowl as small drops of blood were slipping down to his face. While fighting, man managed to shoot him, this time in leg. But teenager didn’t mind, he just kept fighting.

Suddenly large group of men came rushing through the exit door, definitely security guards. Sudden appearance distracted boy a bit, enough for quick move. Man strongly grabbed boy’s neck with his huge fist. His boxing practice really came handy now. With fingers like sausages he brutally started chocking him.

It seemed like a slow clip when ringing was heard.

 

“Sir! We have a fire in ground floor! We need to evacuate.”

“You two stay here. Others get in the ground floor. I need to finish this one.”

“But sir, he’s just a child.”

“I don’t care! Don’t let the young face tricking you. He’s working for FBI.”

“Is that….”

“Save it for later, now I have…”

But huge fire ball finished the rest of his sentence. Security guards covered their eyes from the heat. Something extremely unusual entered the corridor. Hawk burning in fire was flying around as another boy threw guards unconscious. He was also carrying a bow, decorated by shards. His bright eyes were hiding behind messy orange hair. As he glared at criminal, man truly felt fear. He screamingly dropped the green haired and ran towards the roof.

Green haired started coughing as orange haired bended over to help him.

 

“You’re late…” boy with green hair said.

“Sorry, security issue. Are you alright?”

“I’ll be fine… you need to catch him, Nate.”

“If you say so Carl.”

 

Orange haired boy with name Nate joined with his spirit mate and used fire to melt the glass window. From the hole he flew directly on the roof where helicopter was waiting. Man was yelling on the pilot about something, when another one appeared. This time a police one.

 

“Gary Taylor! You’re under arrest!” voice from helicopter’s speaker shouted.

“In your dreams!” man yelled as he started shooting at it.

 

He shot so many bullets that nearly shot the pilot for couple of times. Nate needed to end this. With body covered in flames he flew directly towards man’s arm. Criminal started yelling from the pain when burning bird left him burns all over his arm. Nate used moment of confusion to take his original form, hitting the specific part of man’s neck. Hit threw man unconscious, right in the moment when police helicopter landed. Some policemen went to stop helicopter with criminal’s partner when others grabbed criminal Taylor. As he was locked in handcuffs and put in helicopter, bald headed man came.

He was in his late forties, wearing a uniform that resembled USA’s marine. But marine wasn’t the only job he was doing. Beside newspapers, computers, banks and technology was one thing that made him even more special. He was one of the rarest people who knew about Ials. Just like his past ancestors he had sworn he’ll help them.

 

“How’s the situation Nate?” he asked orange haired.

“We pretty much did as we planned Mr. Silver. Officers managed to get Mr. Taylor and I have some video records that will help us to get him in jail for a long time.”

“What about your workmate Carl?” he asked as he realized green haired isn’t there.

“Over here…” weak voice shouted.

 

Carl was slowly walking while supporting on the wall. His wound on head has gone from bad to worse while his light jeans became bloodier from the gunshot. Nate quickly rushed helping him as Mr. Silver called for a medic from the helicopter. Medic quickly started treating Carl’s bloody wounds when Nate’s cell phone started ringing. He stepped away to answer it.

Meanwhile Mr. Silver checked Nate’s and security records.

 

“I’m so sorry for this to happen to you, but without any proves we can’t get him in jail.”

“Just don’t show it on television or internet.” Carl mumbled.

“Don’t worry, trial will be as privet as possible. We have to prove that he’s capable of hurting animals or even killing kids.” bald headed man said as he showed records of criminal while stabbing Carl’s spirit mate and nearly chocking him.

“Either way I can’t die.” green haired mumbled as medic tied the last bandage around his head. “Plus wounds will heal in couple of days.”

 

Nate ended his call and stepped closer to his friend.

 

“Nai called and said that he has a mission for us.”

“Is it a new Rookie around or something? Cuz I think we won’t have time to pick it. Taylor is only a small part of New York’s drug dealing gang.”

“No, it’s about weird live force coming from one place. Neither Nai nor any Ials are sure what it is. It could be something connected to Men in Gray. Plus an old gang will join.”

“You mean Hideligh and Stormfly groups? That’s awesome! I haven’t seen them literally in ages!”

“But I do have a bad news as well.”

“What kind? Did something happen?”

“You know that Dimi was taken and Leo went looking for him right?”

“Yeah, that happened some months ago.”

“Well now… Roxy was captured too.”

“What? But we spoke just a month ago and she was completely fine!”

“I know. It happened when she was saving a Rookie. But while running away only Rookie managed to escape.”

 

Carl rubbed his eyes while thinking about conversation.

 

“We should go see others at least…” Nate continued.

“And we might find more clues about Men in Gray. Perhaps we’ll even find someone.”

“Okay, then we’ll go. Let’s go to the apartment to pack.”

“Will you need my help?” Mr. Silver asked.

“Perhaps, we aren’t sure what we’ll need.”

 

Spirit mates came in forms of hawks and sat on their owners. One mission was done, but a new one began. With those thoughts they left the building.

 

 

On the other side of the city, black wolf was running. It’s been nearly a week since meeting Roxy. The abby which he check was completely empty. Even equipment wasn’t there. Perhaps they left just before he entered it. Besides searching, another thing was in his complicated mind.

He has just entered the city with over eight million population. It’s easy to be invisible in crowd, but in a city lake this, others can notice you if you look suspicious.

Leo was very noticeable in his black wolf’s form. One wrong step and he’ll end up in dog’s shelter. For his and Cloud’s safety he needed to do a move that will make him look a normal street teenager.

After finding a safe place in Central Park, he took his original form. From the bag around his belt, he took a blue collar and the lead. While putting it on Cloud’s neck, black wolf growled.

 

“I’m sorry for dressing you as an obedient puppy, but there’s no other way for us to look normal. If we ran around joined together we would end up in a dog’s shelter.”

“It’s not you that I’m angry about… it’s the city. Something just isn’t right about it. All those sounds and people are breaking my nerves.”

“We won’t stay long, just a couple of days to make the next move. City has better conditions of surviving than wild forest or grass field.”

“Yeah, you’re right.”

 

Leo took the lead in his hands and went towards the city. It was kinda weird feeling to use only two legs instead of four. People were all over as he entered very crowded street. Business men watching on watches, teens listening the music and women pushing prams was a usual scene on a working day.

The first thing that raven haired needed to do was to get some money. He had official Ial credit card in his pocket. Every Ial had one, also using it as an ID. Every week small amount of money came on it, but on Leo’s came every day. After his searching began, he spoke to Mr. Silver who approved him every – day allowance.

Now he stood in front of cash machine, typing the code. Everything seemed to be normal, so he decided for withdrawal of one hundred dollars. After he finished, woman with little girl came to use it as well. Little girl really seemed to like Cloud.

 

“Mommy? Can I pat the puppy?” she asked nicely.

“You should ask the owner.” woman mumbled while typing the code.

 

As she looked at him in request, Leo nodded in smile. She slowly put her tiny hand on bright black fur and started stroking it. Cloud closed his eyes while enjoying. Leo could also felt the feeling of love and safety. There wasn’t a feeling compared to this one. Feeling a warm and gentle hand, stroking the hair nicely.

 

“You have a really cute dog. Does he have a name?”

“His name is Cloud.” black wolf gently licked girl’s hand which made her tickle a bit. “I think he likes you.”

“Alright sweetie, we have to go.” woman sighed as she put money in her purse.

“Bye Cloud.”

 

Spirit mate stared at girl as she waved him goodbye.

 

“Where should we go now?” Cloud asked, using telepathy.

“Somewhere where is food, I’m starving.”

 

Leo soon arrived to the snack bar called Applebee. He tied Cloud to the near street that seemed empty.

 

“I’ll be right back. I just need to eat something.”

 

Cloud laid on ground for an answer.

Snack bar wasn’t very crowded, just a few people was in. He silently took a seat on the last table. As waitress came he ordered French fries with chicken wings and fruit smoothie. While waiting, he thought about his next move. He knew another abby is hiding somewhere in Nevada’s desert, but to get there he needs to cross entire continent. For that he could unnoticeably use a plane, traveling bus or a truck. When he was about to start thinking about possible transport, somebody loudly ordered its lunch.

 

“Quesadilla Burger and Frozen Lemonade please.”

 

Only one person that Leo knew liked that combination. He turned around to see a green haired boy with baseball cap on his head.

 

“Carl?”

“Leo! How nice to see you! Take a seat here.”

“It’s been a long time Carl. What are you doing here?”

“Here? I came to eat if that’s what you think.”

“No, I meant aren’t you on FBI missions?”

“I have a break right now, but I’m going on another mission tonight. You should come too.”

“Me? But I’m on…”

“… rescuing trip into nowhere, right? You’re trying to do so many things on your own. Why don’t you join us on mission to finally do something while using teamwork?”

“But I’m not FBI Ial…”

“Mission isn’t for FBI agents. It’s about us, Ials. We might find a clue about Dimi if we investigate together.”

 

Leo took a deep breath to just think about conversation. This maybe it. Chance he looked for team up. But he then remember the promise that he swore to himself. Promise he will save Dimi by himself. While preparing to answer he looked at Carl again. He noticed fresh bandages around his head.

 

“What happened to you?”

“You mean this?” green haired rubbed his forehead “One crazy guy stabbed Force in the head. He’s alright, but needs to rest at home. Speaking of which where you left Cloud?”

“In the near street. I just came to eat something.”

“Will you join our mission then?”

“I’ll think about it.”

 

While their talking, waitress brought their meals. Boys ate it in silence as clouds outside became darker. When Carl finished, he paid and while leaving he threw a key with some key chains to Leo.

 

“In case you don’t have place to spend night, you can go to my apartment. Me and Nate will leave tonight so it will be empty. In case you will join us, call me and we will come to pick you up.”

“I’ll let you know soon…”

 

Green haired smiled at him while leaving the snack bar. Leo stayed to pay and check the newspaper he bought before entering the snack bar. Nothing very special happened. Some politicians had extremely boring discussions, new shopping centre was opened… everyday stuff. Until he reached the last page. Raven haired stared wide open in a big letters and tiny text under it.

 

Tragedy of the school bus:

Forensics still haven’t found any explanations about the accident that happened about half of year ago. Let us remind you on a tragedy of a school bus where twenty four innocent kids from age of six to eighteen died.

Even though it’s been a nearly half of a year from now, there’s still no answers or explanation about how school bus exploded in a board daylight. Bodies were destroyed by it, but all personal belongings from children were found.

If you have any information about death of twenty four kids please call 911 or report to police.

 

Accident gave him a lot to think. Did any of those kids become an Ial?

He suddenly felt a pain in his back. But there was nothing hitting him. Pain was Cloud’s. Leo quickly ran towards the alley where his spirit mate was tied. Two teens in their early twenties was hitting Cloud with sticks. They both laughed when wolf was squeaking.

 

“What hell are you doing?” Leo yelled at them.

“Just having a little fun. This doggie is on our territory.”

“Leave it alone!” Leo yelled even lauder.

 

As he yelled his inner powers started losing control. Power of his powerful mind rushed in minds of the teens. With loud warning in their heads, they screamingly ran away.

Leo fell on his knees as Cloud came closer to him. Inner powers weren’t meant for that kind of things. With a goal of finding Carl’s apartment and joining the Ial mission he joined with Cloud and started looking for it.

Weather was getting worse as he was going towards the address. Less people were around, walking in different directions.

Black wolf was about to turn towards the right street when a sudden event changed his plans. Kid around Dimi’s age was crossing the road. His eyes were staring on a comic book, so he didn’t see a fast car that was coming towards him. That was the moment when Leo didn’t use his mind to do something. He only worked on the instinct.

Without the second thought he rushed past the confused people. He didn’t mind them, all he wanted to do was to safe the kid. Car was getting closer by any second. Leo jumped on the kid, grabbing his shirt while pulling him on safety.

But while pulling him away, Leo felt metal pain in his wolf shoulders. He was fast enough to safe the kid, but wasn’t fast enough for saving himself. Car left a brutal mark on his back and shoulders.

Kid started freaking out when he realized the situation. People were shouting and pointing their fingers at him. In their view it seemed like wolf was the one who caused the accident. When he was pulling him away, people saw him like a predator that’s carrying its prey. People started panicking when some of them even called the animal control.

Leo quickly checked boy’s condition. Even though kid seemed to be scared to death, he didn’t suffer any injuries. While looking at him Leo used a bit of his powers.

“I’m not gonna hurt you. I just save you from the car, so be careful the next time you cross the road.”

 

Kid confusedly watched how black wolf look at him with those realistic brown eyes and left.

He needed to run away as far as possible. While his wolf paws were bearing towards the Carl’s address, a weird feeling entered his body. It was strange as his shoulders and back started to hurt even more. His breathing was getting heavy as paws were hardly carrying him.

Wolf started leaning on the wall to walk better. But this didn’t help him. Car’s hit caused him more pain than he expected.

But it wasn’t just the pain that he felt. His head was becoming empty. Memories were fading away as his eyes couldn’t be opened anymore.

 

He fell on the ground of the empty street as rain slowly washed his mind. He suffered amnesia from car's hit and all he ever knew was gone.

 

Leo wasn’t Leo anymore.

First of all... I'M SO SORRY TO KEEP YOU WAITING FOR TWO WHOLE MONTHS!!!! Really, last month I was so busy with my school marks and exams that I simply didn't have time to write a single word. So this chapter will be a bit longer for you to catch up last two months.

Hope that chapter answers on most of your questions.

 

 

Chapter Seventeen: Haunted House

 

Again pure sound of nature was heard. Quiet waves of clear lake, bird’s song and gentle wind. Alex has known those sounds only from his rare vacations with his uncle. But now, like most of the people he disappeared from his life.

Red haired slowly removed sheets as Blaze stretched his wolf body. Today was the day when he will need to prove he’s a rightful Ial. On a mission of investigating weird place. Neither Os nor Nikki told him much about it. Only that they’ll go back on Earth along with some more Ials. Everything else was a mystery to him.

Blonde above him was still sleeping with his Hyro beside him. Nikki was still sleeping too, on the upper part of the bunk bed. On the lower one were Misty and Spark as wolves, sleeping like cubs. Alex smiled on the cute scene and decided to check some more of the house. As he entered living room, Blaze took a form of the bird, flying over it.

 

“Poking around isn’t really nice.” hawk muttered.

“I won’t poke. I just wanna know more about that Hidelight family.”

“Isn’t that poking?” Blaze muttered, leaving Alex silent.

 

He passed some shelves with various things, like photos. On most of them were Hidelight kids at very early age. Then it seemed like they stopped making photos. After those photos, they were all wearing their Ial clothes. He also noticed some other Ials as well, like brown haired Dimi with black haired boy who seemed like Leo. They were also photos of another black haired boy, then a girl whose hair was braided into beautiful braid and another brown haired boy who was surrounded by many books. Another photo in straight left seemed very special. On it was a girl that reminded her on Nikki, except her hair was weakly tied. Next to her was dusky boy with bald head. Girl was hugged in his embrace, like he wanted to tell “This is my girl, I won’t let you take my love from me!”. Alex smiled at the thought, when he again thought about Roxy. He wondered if she has heard his song, because he heard hers.

While moving forward to see some more selves, he saw various books on it. He checked the titles:

Story of Fallen Angel, Double Danger, Search of the Dead, Scroll’s Prophecy… and a lot more. One of them even drew his attention of taking it in his arms. It seemed like the oldest ones there. Alex tried to read the title that was crossed – Crystal Wings and then the title under it – Power of Nature. He slowly opened yellow with age pages. It wasn’t just a simple story… but a diary. Surprisingly, most of the pages weren’t filled with text but with drawings. On the first page was drawing with plane in the sea, then one with Spark and one with Roxy’s Arrowblade. Now Alex knew. Thing he held was Roxy’s own diary. He knew it wasn’t nice to do, but he wanted to know. Red haired leafed through the book on the last part Roxy drew and wrote. There was a drawing of himself with sketchbook in his hands. Under it were just some hand written words.

 

New Rookie, my very first solo mission. Nikki and Os nearly got crazy when they heard about it. Even thought I tried to tell them many times it’s no big deal, they were still worried about me. To be honest I was a bit scared too. I’ve been on several missions before, but never on solo one. Spark told me we’ll be just fine and I believed her ( which technically means I believe myself ). Anyway before leaving I decide to write one more note. It’s also a bit about this guy that I’m going watch over. Nai reported he’s dying from a car crash and I immediately left to see if he’s okay. I can’t write more… I feel he needs me and… I also feel something else…

I feel like I need him… I can’t explain the feeling… maybe I’ll know it after I return back…

 

At the end of it was simple drawing. It really seemed done in rush. Red lines were drawn into something like… a heart? Alex really didn’t know what to say on this, so he just returned it back on the shelf. On the next shelf were much more books. Again it had various titles like History or Fantasy?, Story of Ancients, Blade of Existence… and he again stopped at one that looked interesting. Its title was Hollow Gardens and it already seemed freaky. Cover was decorated by creepy drawing of haunted house and black trees in background. In front of it terrified boy with letter was standing. Alex was about to read the first page when book suddenly flew from his hands. Boy terrifiedly watched how book floated in mid air, spinning and turning.

 

“I wouldn’t read that if I were you.” voice said.

 

Luckily it was only Nikki, using her disappearing again. While putting it back, Misty came too.

 

“Why shouldn’t I read it?”

“Because we’re going at the similar place as in this book. Bet you’ll have creeps.”

“So?”

“So?! This is a horror story. Almost every character dies on the end.”

“We’re going in the haunted house then?”

“You could say that… is more like empty house if you ask me.”

 

After saying that, Nikki went preparing things for their mission. Along with her, Os’s and Alex’s backpack that she prepared yesterday she also took some belt bags that Os called Quick Think Do Set.

 

“What about breakfast?” red haired asked.

“We’ll eat once we get to our location. Now we need to go and… yeah wake Os up.”

 

She went back to bedroom and nearly dragged Os from it. Blonde was still a bit tired from the injury that he suffered from Acceorbi. Even Hydro didn’t want to get up.

 

“Spare me sis… just ten more minutes…” he muttered while holding the sheets.

“We’ll leave in ten minutes!” Nikki pulled sheets from him. “Same as Roxy… always wants to sleep more time.” she sighted.

 

When Os finally got up with yawing Hydro beside him, Nikki made a phone call. Alex now already dressed watched how blonde put his black pants and white jacket on. He lastly tied his blue scarf around the neck. Even thought it was nearly summer, mornings were still cold. After finishing the phone call, raven haired came back, checking some things on hand computer.

 

“Before going we need to make one more stop. After it we’ll use the portal.”

“Just one sec!” Os said as he went to the kitchen. He poured some water in the glass in quickly drank it. After drinking it, his face had much more color than before. “Water gives me energy.” Os explained.

 

After putting all backpacks on, party headed towards the lake. Alex quietly followed Nikki on whose shoulder Spark as hawk was sitting. They were soon in front of big shed which Os called Main Shed. The shed was so big as it was a school or a sport center. Well it was a bit of both. Red haired entered it along with Os and Nikki. While walking through corridors Alex saw many different rooms, like big library, gym were couple of boy Ials were fighting and even a room from which loud music was heard. From curiosity he stepped in, seeing blond haired boy with sound cans around his neck. Blonde was dancing in rhythm as his golden hawk was flying around.

 

“Good song, dude.” Alex smiled.

“Well, thanks pal. I’m trying to mix some old sounds to make a new one. I’m Beat by the way and that’s Rhyme. Are you a new one?”

“Yeah, I’m Alex.”

“And you’re here because….?”

“Alex! Where did you go? We’re in a hurry you know.” Nikki suddenly appeared again. “Save your breath, we need to go right there.” she showed door on the end of corridor.

 

With several white beds, this room seemed a lot like an ambulance. On one of it, shirtless Os was sitting. Girl in white coat was listening to his heart with stethoscope. Red haired recognized her from photos. It was a brown haired girl with braid, who also helped him find Os on his first day. Girl who played with frisbee.

 

“No offense, but what are we doing here?”

“Kiara is a doctor here. She needs to check if we’re okay.”

“Is that really necessary?” Alex asked.

“Yeah, especially after two ridicules twins got sick and drew a lot of intention.” brown haired said when blonde started discreetly whistling.

“What happened?”

“Both of them got pneumonia and fainted on the busy street. People even called ambulance which drew a lot of unwished attention. Thank god, two friends of mine came before doctor realized they aren’t normal kids.”

“Alright, I’m done with you. Now, Alex can you take your shirt off?”

 

Without saying a thing red haired removed his shirt. Kiara professionally examined his health signs and done all sorts of tests. In the end it showed that Alex has absolutely no signs of illnesses. Braided girl also checked Nikki who was also healthy. After it party said good bye and went towards the lake.

Like it was said, portal was waiting for them. Together they entered it along with Spark who now, in a form of hawk sat on Nikki’s shoulder. They soon found themselves near the desert’s highway. Even thought it was a morning, asphalt was burning like frying pan.

 

“Call me stupid, but where the hell did we ended up?” Alex asked as he looked on the desert.

“Just relax and wait a few more minutes.” Nikki smiled.

 

Soon after their arrival, trance music was heard. Red haired looked closely on the dot that was becoming bigger. It soon revealed itself as van, painted by many game elements. Os jokily pretended he’s hitching. Van stopped as music inside got lowered down. From it, green haired head with baseball cap on peeked.

 

“What’s up Oskari?” he smiled to Os.

“Nice to see you too Carl. And yeah nice to see you too Nate.” Os greeted both boys.

“Since when did you start to drive car?” Nikki asked bit seriously.

“Some years ago, but mentally I’m almost twenty six years old.”

“How could I forget.” Nikki smiled.

“Who’s the fellow there?” orange haired boy asked, referring Alex.

“That’s the new Ial who will accompany us. His name is Alex and his Spirit Mate’s name is Blaze.”

“Nice to meet you… Carl right?” Alex crossed his hands with Carl’s.

“Yup, and here’s Force.” green haired showed on wolf with same fur’s color. “Fellow over here is Nate and his Spirit’s mate name is Iggy.”

 

Party climbed in the van as it started moving forward. But without Carl or Nate driving it.

 

“I add one more function in C.U.T.E. - driving car.”

“So you lied about your car experience.” Nikki got serious again.

“No, not at all. I only used it now, for us to talk a bit.” green haired smiled “Come in, we have some food for breakfast and we can talk a bit of our plan.”

 

Two boys took two boxes full of sandwiches along with orange juice. While eating, Ial FBI agents described mission.

 

“We need to get to an old village somewhere around here. It’s a bit ancient and small, but the only thing that matters is abandoned house. People keep reporting they’re seeing weird things along with creepy sounds. Last couple of weeks they even report about cars and men going in.”

“Those gotta be men in gray! What the heck are they doing in there?” Os rushed.

“That’s what we’re going to find.” Nate said as he sat back on the driver seat.

 

Soon after they left the highway and started driving on unasphalted road. There were so many rocks that they were practically jumping instead of driving. Spirit Mates really needed to hold thigh if they wanted to stay still. Spark was now stuck on Os trying her best to not let go of his shirt with her hawk claws. As they arrived at village from early eighties, they hid their van somewhere behind bushes. Then Carl and Nate handed them couple of boxes from which none of the Hidelight’s or Alex knew what was inside.

Abandoned house was ten times creepier than on the photos. Most of the paint seemed to be washed away ages ago when all windows were broken. Nikki carefully touched the house’s door which fell down almost immediately. Party could felt cold air which was mixing with something disgusting. Like something dead was inside.

 

“Alright, we have some sort of plan. Nikki, Alex and Nate will place some analyzers in the rooms when I and Os will turn on the computer.”

“Won’t we examine it by ourselves?” Alex asked confusedly.

“First things first. We can’t risk old wood and unwanted surprises.”

 

Technology from FBI Ials sure was something. Little gadgets were put in almost every room. Things like cameras, sound analyzers and similar things should tell them what was has had been happening in the house before their arrival. But there was no doubt, everyone had the creeps about the house. While Alex and Nate were putting sound recorders in the place that seemed like old fashioned kitchen, Nikki was sent to put another sound recorder in the attic.

Raven haired felt a bit scared, but she knew she had to do this. Things like boxes, wardrobes along with spider nets were in every corner. Even rats were peeking their noses in, which was fun for Misty and Spark. Both of them were running after over sized mice like they were playing a game.

But suddenly both spirit mates became serious. Their wolf snouts growled at something in the darkness. Moment later everything was turned upside down.

Something rushed into room, hitting all the boxes and breaking the glass that wasn’t already broken. Terrified rats ran back in holes as wolves stood in front of Nikki, to protect her. Still that wasn’t enough. Whatever that thing was, it rushed into her, knocking her on the ground. Misty quickly bit it back as Spark sent message to Hydro.

Os reacted quickly, running in the house while picking Alex who also heard her message.

 

“Sis!” Os shouted as they entered dusty attic.

 

Misty was fighting with the thing that couldn’t be seen, it was just there like a shadow. Blonde quickly used his water bubbles to stop the thing as Alex helped him with his light waves. Alex was even ready to use his Arrowblade, but Os shook with his head. Thing was already gone. Nikki was frightened, but arrival of her brother calmed her down. She slowly stood up as Alex went to look for any traces.

 

“Look…” Blaze showed on walls.

 

Red haired was about to pick the torch when his hands felt weird. He took it in front of his eyes to felt unknown warmth coming from them. Not just warmth, but also weird violet light was coming from them. He raised it closer to the wall, to see violet rays on the wall.

 

“Wow… I didn’t know you can use ultraviolet rays.” Nikki said after seeing them on the wall.

 

So those were ultraviolet rays, one of his many inner abilities of light? While thinking he suddenly remembered about books he read about forensics. They usually used special lights to discover body liquids like blood. Alex could make the same rays without any technology. He started checking the wall for any signs that could help on their mission. Major part of walls was clean… until he reached the corner. On it was a creepy sign with some unrecognizable letters. He went closer to read it.

 

Help me…

 

Whoever wrote that was in real hurry. Message written with blood was dragged all the way to the next wall. As red haired examined message, others joined him. Os looked at it understandably when Nikki only made one quick look.

 

“What could that mean?” Alex asked.

“Let’s just take a sample and go back to the van. Carl might know what it is with his toys.” Os muttered.

 

Party was again in the van. This time surrounded by countless screens which showed every inch of the house. Not just cameras, but also sound and warmth detectors were examining situation. Nate had his sound cans on ears all the time when others were staring on the screens. Blood sample turned to be male one with unusual amount of white blood cells. That meant person’s body was attacked by huge number of damaging microorganisms. Main job of white blood cells is to protect body from foreign cells.

 

“So we have information that we have a boy or a man in a house with sick body which needs help? Why did he attack Nikki then?” Os began his speech.

“It might be scared or something, thinking we came to hurt it.” Nate suggested.

“Or just don’t want to be around people….”

“Guys!!! Guy…” Carl called.

“And a girl.” Nikki sighed.

“Cameras have something!” green haired showed on screen.

 

It really was something there. But picture of it was very flurry, as none was there. One more thing, warmth detectors didn’t sensed any warmth. Just like ghost was there.

 

“I have something too!” Nate called with sound cans on.

 

He quickly put the sounds on speaker. At first there was fizzying, moment later blurry words.

 

Where. .. are you… Who’s… there… Don’t… kill me…

“That’s it! We’re going in! I have enough of this mumbo jumbo.” Carl stood up “Nikki, Nate you two stay here and tell us if you see anything new. Alex and Os, come with me in.”

 

He threw them torches as he was walking towards broken door. Os and Alex felt really scared, especially after seeing sunset. It was cold and soon dark, just like in horror stories. Carl decided to check place where ghost could be when other two should check the lower rooms. Red haired was now in an old living room. Blonde meanwhile looked around closets and almost completely eaten books.

Suddenly Alex tripped from something. Os rushed to him, to see floor’s parquet moved. He removed some more pieces, to uncover this house’s secret. Under bunch of wooden parquet was completely dark corridor that leaded even deeper.

 

“Maybe we should call Carl…” Alex started but blonde interrupted him with jumping in.

 

Blonde went deeper and red haired had no choice but to follow him. Os lighted it by his torch as Alex used cat eyes to see in the dark. Corridor sure was long. Seconds soon became minutes as they were walking. But right after thinking corridor is endless, slight blur of another room appeared in front of their eyes. Thinking of discovering something new soon turned their minds.

Room was something that you could inspect only in horror movies. Metal strays filled with sharp appliances, unknown liquids, countless papers with reports and even the whole cage. Some bars were partly broken, some were completely removed or even covered by blood. This place made both of them sick. Alex even stepped some steps back duo to the scary affect. He stepped into something red and disgusting on the floor.

 

“Don’t worry, it’s not blood…. it’s more like some sort of… food?” Os examined

“If the captured thing ate that, it’s probably dead by now. I wouldn’t eat that even if was the last thing on earth.”

 

Blonde nodded at the look of smashed swill on upset stray. After examining the cage, red haired looked at the report papers. All of them were written really carefully, as it was the science experiment. But another deeper examination changed Alex’s thoughts and expatiations. On the top of the report was title of experiment.

 

C9 Case

Age: 12

Blood Type: A- ( rare )

 

Subject is getting different drugs. Each of them makes its body different. Some leave injuries, some leave hyperactive consciences. It even managed to escape from cage and enter the house. Luckily shock waves always forces it to come back in the cage. For now, its condition is getting lower so we lightened drug injections.

 

After reading all those cruel sentences, Alex simply threw it in the middle of the room. He couldn’t stand seeing the same horror as he saw before. Os confusedly watched.

 

“What was that about?” he asked.

“Man in grey…. they were here… and they’re keeping somebody here as experiment.”

“Are you sure about this?”

“Definitely! I was B2 case and C9 is another unlucky kid who got captured by them.”

“Let’s look around. Maybe we can find that unlucky kid. Hope he’s still alive.”

“Since we talking about that… do you think kid’s ordinary human or maybe… an Ial?”

 

Blonde stayed still a bit, thinking while drawing deep breath.

 

“I’m not sure. There’s so many Ials in the world that I don’t know all of them. It could be possible that’s an Ial who got captured.”

“True… hey what’s that?” Alex asked when he found another door. If the first room was from horror movie, the second one was from even scarier horror movie. Or more like laboratory for crazy scientist. More gear was in, along with a thing similar to surgery table. As ultraviolet rays lighted it, even more blood was shown.

 

“Where is that kid? I doubt he’s even here.” Os muttered after lifting white lines that covered more gear along with reports.

But just after lifting another one, breaking noise filled the room. Boys quickly looked at as Spirit Mates turned into wolves.

Blurry figure was barely standing next to the door. When it saw Blaze and Hydro, it rushed towards the exit. Ial boys started chasing it through dark corridors. Figure was shocked as it was running for its life. But while running Os and Alex saw creepy figures on the walls. From ghosts to murder like people who laughably stare at them. Just like in amusement park where are you sitting on handcart while looking at moving dolls. This was the same, accept role changed.

Figure was still running until it reached the hole which led back in the house. Os tried to grab it, but figure was too fast which cause him to fell back in the corridor. Luckily Alex and Blaze caught him while climbing out. They saw figure again, this time running towards the open entrance door. It seemed like it’s going to run away through door, which didn’t happen. Just when it was about to go out, something on its leg started glowing.

Suddenly figure fell on the floor. It was trembling from the pain which boys felt too. Pain was caused by no other then electromagnetic shocks, Ial’s greatest weakness. Figure started even screaming from pain when it became clearer. Alex and Os could now see boy, a few years younger than themselves in horrible condition. Without a second thought they pulled him back in the house for electric gear to stop. While pulling him in, boy still screamed. Not only from the pain. He was afraid of their touch.

 

“No, I don’t want to go back! Let me go!” boy screamed.

“We won’t hurt you, just calm down.” Os said gently.

“If you’ll go out, device will hurt you again!” Alex joined.

 

After they finally got him deep enough in the house, boy finally stopped feeling electromagnetic shocks. That was also a big relief for the boys who also felt it. Now they could take a deeper look on the boy.

He was dressed in ripped shirt and pants that were once white. Ripped parts of clothes were also around his wrists, ankles and forehead. When Os looked closer, he noticed blood that came through. Wounds were also on the rest of his tiny body. What suppose to be his body was just skin and bones as he wasn’t eating for months. His bright hair almost completely hid his unusually big brown eyes.

 

“Who are you… if you’re not them?” boy asked after some time.

“We’re as same as you… you are an Ial right?” Alex asked.

“No… I don’t know what that even is.” boy replied.

“But you died once, right?” Os asked him while looking in his eyes.

“What?! How can you even ask something like that?” boy nearly screamed. “I’m normal boy, not some sort of zombie!”

“Listen… you may not believe, but we’re here to help you. Do you have a name or are you just C9 case?”

 

Boy sadly looked down as tears started coming from his eyes.

 

“Every time I said it, they dragged me into dark room and punished me. I’m not allowed to say it.”

“None is here now. You’re free to tell your name.”

“Yeah, if we call you C9 we would sound as same as those white coats that hurt you.”

“You’re kid, just like us. Not some sort of subject.”

 

Kid started crying even more when his voice told the thing he wanted to say so many times.

 

“That’s right… I’m not a subject… My name is… Piko.”

“Nice to meet you then Piko. I’m Oscar, but everyone calls me Os. Over there is Alex.”

“What are those dogs doing here?” he asked as he looked on Blaze and Hydro.

“We’ll tell you later. First we need to treat your wounds and give you something good to eat.” Os said as door was opened by Nikki. She held first aid in her hands and looked shocked when she saw Piko. Os helped him get up and put his jacket on him when he felt his trembling. Together they went towards the couch that seemed still alright and put some fresh blankets on, to make him a fast bed. Then Carl came to treat his wounds. Nate pretty much told him what happened from camera’s records.

Carl knew a lot of medical things from his FBI training which came handy now. Piko’s wounds were really bad and mostly infected. Green haired carefully disinfected them with germicide and washed away gores. Lastly he put fresh bandages on. Piko felt relief. If he treated any of his wounds by himself, scientist sooner or later gave him new ones. Now his old wounds were resting.

 

“What is going to happen now? And why he has a dog as well?” he pointed finger at Carl.

“If you have enough strength to tell your story, then tell it. If you’re too tired, rest and you’ll tell it tomorrow.” Carl said.

 

Even though his last days were painful and exhausting, nothing prevented him from telling about his days of suffering.

 

“I mostly don’t remember. I only know that I normally went in school, but wake up in weird room. There were also some other kids who didn’t know what happen. Then suddenly one man came and dragged me in another place. He ripped my clothes off and replaced them by those that I’m wearing now. I spent the rest of the days in some sort of cell. From time to time, they came and gave me papers with questions. I needed to answer them if I didn’t want to be punished. Then I was again in the cell were also some other kids were. We weren’t allowed to talk or do anything. They just grabbed us from it and then bring us back.”

“How long where you there?” Nikki asked.

“I don’t know exactly… perhaps a month or even longer. It was practically the same every single day in there. Until… I became C9 case.”

 

After saying this sentence, Piko looked down even sadder than before. His eyes were again filled with tears.

 

“Science jerks came again and took me in some kind of laboratory. There they closed me in a cage while they were doing something to another boy in there. They were injecting him with something that made him screamed. He was begging to stop, but they kept injecting him. I couldn’t watch that. Suddenly I started hitting the cage so much that it flipped and crack opened. Then… I tried to help the boy, but… he wasn’t breathing anymore. Those jerks killed him!”

 

Piko was catching his breath. Memories again appeared in his head.

 

“After it they were so mad that they threw me against the wall and blindfolded me. I don’t know what happened then. When they finally took tape off, boy’s body was gone. That moment I was so angry that I yelled at them with questions why I’m here. I even started hitting them until they injected me with something that made me dizzy. Then I woke up right when another man put me in the van. I tried to escape, but he injected me again. Next time I woke up, I was in this house’s cellar, locked in cage. Scientist came for couple of times, to inject me even more. When they left the house I tried to escape many times, but every time I went through door, that thing started shocking me.” boy showed on a device on his ankle.

 

Carl and Nate closely examined it. It was stuck as it was a part of his body.

 

“That’s a body – altimeter. It’s practically connected to all your veins and nerds on ankle. Part of it is also GPS that activates electromagnetic shocks if you leave the house.” Nate explained.

“Can you remove it?” Alex asked.

“I can only lower electromagnetic shocks so we can get him out. Too bad Roxy isn’t here. She could heck this in five minutes.”

“Who’s Roxy?” Piko asked as others sighed.

“Another kid who was captured by the same jerks. She’s also my twin sister.” Os said sadly.

“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s alright Piko. You’re one of us now and we’re going to take care of you.”

“We are going to leave in the morning, when we can lower down the device on your ankle. For now get some rest.” Carl said while covering him with blanket.

“But what if they came?”

“We’ll take care of them and get you on safety even if you’ll be asleep. And we’ll spent night here so don’t worry. You won’t be alone tonight.” Nikki said while stroking his hair.

“Thank you guys…. so much.” Piko mumbled while falling asleep.

 

When kid fallen asleep Alex went closer to Os.

 

“Are you sure he’s one of us? I mean he doesn’t have a Spirit Mate or any powers.” Alex said.

“He is one of us… just like you were. Before you met Roxy you didn’t know a thing about what’s going on. It’s the same with Piko.”

“But are you really sure he became a Rookie?”

 

Os deeply looked in his eyes for reply.

 

“When you were a Rookie, I could saw wolf in your eyes. In Piko’s eyes… I see a hawk.
