Space Cowboy 1,392 Posted October 17, 2011 I just wanted to talk about this. What do you feel is the darkest Zelda game? For me it's a tie between Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess. The plot of Majora's Mask is pretty dark overall, and seeing the Skull Kid and the Happy Mask Salesman sometimes creeps me out. But on the other hand. Twilight Princess is a dark game overall. The plot is kind of dark, the gameplay is a bit more violent, and the overall atmosphere is pretty dark. What do you think the darkest Zelda game is? CrownKeeper13 688 Posted October 17, 2011 Definitely Majora's mask.

DTD 33 Posted October 17, 2011 twilight princess because it looks more real and defines the true twilight in it
KeyOfVentus 90 Posted October 17, 2011 Definately Twilight Princess, the feel of it was very Dark, and the Skull Kid and the Happy Mask Salesman are also in Ocarana of Time, so if that's your only argument for that game, you need a new one.

That isn't my only argument, it's not even my argument at all it's just something I decided to post. Skull Kid didn't have the Majora's Mask in Ocarina of Time, did he? Was he a sadistic psychopath trying to destroy the world? No, he wasn't.

Woah chill dude, that's how I discuss, I shoot down other arguments to try and make mine sound better. And Who knows? He could have been quite sadistic in Ocarana of Time, maybe he was having a bad gameplay experience, we all have.

Eternal Heart 9 Posted October 17, 2011 Yea, in Ocarina of Time, the skull kid isn't really out to destroy the world. He's much darker in Majora's Mask. Still, Twilight Princess is a very dark game, as well. It's just probably not as dark as Majora's Mask.
hatok 6,413 Posted October 18, 2011 I think a bunch of you are misunderstanding teh question. Yes, Twilight Princess was dark coloured, but I'm pretty sure this is about darkness in tone. Y'know, like Spoilers, obviously Romani and her sister comforting each other on the third day when they know the world will end The Skull Kids backstory The fact that masks are created from a persons soul The guards that don't let you pass, but once it's the third day, they know the world will end, so they let you pass, but they stay in teh town out of a sense of duty The whole Anju and Kafei sidequest The fact that you can't save everybody, since you reverse time And I'm barely scratching the surface, and not even talking about all the theories and implications I'm sorry, but a fiance waiting at an inn for her fiance to arrive, only for there to only be five minutes left before the world ends, but still being happy that they got to see eachother again is a LOT darker than 'You go to the dark world, and it's dark, and you're a WOLF!' Yeah I basically agree with this, but Twilight Princess has a lot of dark elements besides "the dark world" and being a wolf. While everybody dies in Majora's Mask (if you don't do what you are supposed to do in the amount of time given), and while that's pretty dark I must say, I feel that Twilight Princess is the only game that gave death "depth" (lol rhymes). Zant slaughtered the Queen of the Zoras in front of the entire Zora community just so people will know not to mess with him. Plus I've always found Puppet Zelda creepy as well...but tl;dr Twilight Princess has it's share of dark moments as well, even though Majora's Mask has more. Azure Flame 670 Posted October 18, 2011 Just wanted to point out that there is more than one Skull Kid. The forest labrynth in Ocarina of Time has several Skull Kids, and the Skull Kid from Majora's Mask is a different one altogether. Anywho, back on topic, I think they're equally dark in their own respects. Like Ganondorf's death in Twilight Princess. He gets stabbed in the chest and then you see Zant crack his neck and boom, Ganondorf's dead. As for Majora's Mask, it's Kid Link doing all this to save everyone. Yeah I was going to point that out too, because Skull Kids appear in Twilight Princess as well. And yeah..like I said earlier, Twilight Princess takes death to a darker level. You've seen people get stabbed and stuff in Zelda games, but they usually just like blow up in a cloud of smoke or something, but not in Twilight Princess. Hell Zant committed suicide, that's dark enough.

7thKingdom 23 Posted October 18, 2011 As I havent played Twilight Princess (yes I know I think Im the only person whjo hasnt played Twilight Princess), I found Majoras Mask to be really creepy. I mean I know Skull Kid was not evil but damn did he had a maniacal voice when he laughed and screamed, it just creeped the hell out of me, the mask salesman was damn scary too, AND I dont want to mention that moon..... Even then, killing her as an example isn't dark. Unless you found it dark when the villain in Saturday morning cartoons said they were going to 'Teach them a lesson!' That said, is, in my opinion, the most outwardly creepy scene in any Zelda game.Spoilers, obviously.
Tails 6,692 Posted October 18, 2011 I'd definitely have to say Twilight Princess.
Isaix 924 Posted October 18, 2011 The major fact that make twilight princess a Dark game is obviously the Twilight realm that take over Hyrule and all(there are some dark moments in the story too),but to me Majora Mask is a darker game because everywhere you go in the game, there is always a terrible event, more than just '' I lost all my coccos please help me! '' lol. When you visit the Swamp,Mouintain,Great bay and Ikana canyon for the first time there's this nice, calm, mysterious and Dark Theme.Skull Kid,the happy mask Shop,Majora Mask and the Moon make this game even darker. Shion 18 Posted October 20, 2011 Hmm... I don't have Majora's Mask, but I have read the manga, so I'd say Twilight Princess just because it has a rather dark feel to it, you know? I didn't find MM dark at all, but yet again I haven't played the game and have no wish to because I'd NEVER be able to beat that time limit.

That you can reset at will. The Manga doesn't have a dark feel because unlike the game, Link can't fail. Have a look at the Anju and Kafei quest, please.
