Lu Xun 2,069 Posted October 7, 2011 Guys, thanks again for the comments in my other stories and essays. I really appreciate it Did this at school, some days ago. Translated from Portuguese to English :] Hope you enjoy this one as well! What world is this we’re living today? The current world we live, is completely different from the one of ancient times. It’s very common to hear stories from grandfathers, and great grandfathers, which usually report their adolescence, or childhood. In these stories, we heard that they used to play until late, in the evening, went to parties, and only returned after midnight. The word “violence” did not exist in that time, or if it did -- it was immensely lesser than it is today. The kids and the adolescents don’t have the freedom to play -- unless it is inside home -- and, thanks to that, most of them end up spending their time in front of a computer, the TV, or even playing games. Although a lot of parents complain that their sons and daughters spend too much time on the computer, most of them sure prefer to see them home, where they are safe, than in the streets -- where the danger that violence offers is. But also because of the risk of losing them to the drugs. Most of the people seem to have forgotten limits, because nowadays, rarely something will surprise a large amount of people. The cruelty, which is seen in the journal daily, is simply unbelievable. And the worst, is that it just keeps increasing, in number. The presents resembles a horror movie, where the people have put the love for the others in the last place of their priorities. They just care about their own welfare, and with the possible ways of getting more and more money. With time, the humanity stopped evolving to something greater, and, instead, went back one step. In this phase, people are selfish, stingy, and arrogant. Through the ideas the previous paragraphs have tried to inform, it’s important to emphasize one last time that the humanity’s face seems to have changed. Seems it behavior with its own kind has changed. However, we wait that in the future, the world can -- maybe -- return to when it was a good, calm, and happy place to live. Probably, it will not happen, but we must not lose hope, because, after all, we are humans -- we are continuously changing, innovating, and getting better and better. 11 Snow, lostmemory123, KHlover8 and 8 others reacted to this

Marley_Aqua_33 265 Posted October 7, 2011 I really like this. Like others said it's very well writen, but don't forget one thing: Violence, assaults and a lot of other bad things always existed in the world but our great grandfathers (for example) or people who lived before them didn't have many ways to know what was happening around the world. The tecnology was still in progress and there were newspapers and radio, but they didn't write involving the news from diferent countries. Today, we have TV, computer, newspapers, radio... And we know what's hapenning, which can shock us... Although, it's certain that in these last years violence had increased a lot which concers or SHOULD concern the humanity. Indecypher 495 Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) This reminded me of: "From what little I know of prehistory, man roamed the Earth for hundreds of thousands of years in small tribes -- probably no more than two hundred people per group. During this time all wisdom was passed along according to the oral tradition. Everything you needed to know in order to succeed as a human being was told and/or shown to you, whether it be how to find a girl, find a guy, have sex, have a baby, find food, raise children, deal with family, argue with neighbors, care for the sick, elderly and dead, fight, work, sing, dance, play and get really loaded in order to hookup with the universe. (Side note: I've always loved the term "prehistory," which arrogantly implies that prior to the emergence of our culture, nothing happened.) Anyway, this state of affairs lasted for a long, long time. It was relatively stable. Peace on Earth, if you will. Then, with the advent of large-scale agriculture and the need for ever larger swathes of land to accommodate it, the tribal system collapsed and people began to live huddled together in towns, villages and cities. In short order, the priceless wisdom that taught us who we were and how we could live a happy life was forever lost to mankind. Which brings us to today. I don't believe that we became a neurotic and self-destructive species because we're born in sin, or otherwise flawed. I believe our fall from grace was simply a forgetting."
