Why people call Days and Re:Coded unnecesary

Recommended Posts

As you all know, people (especially the fans of the KH series) have found both 358/2 Days and Re:Coded to be a little unnecesarry. Well, I'm here to explain why people really think that.

Okay let's first talk about 358/2 Days. Days was to focus on Roxas' time in the Organization as well as all the other members of Organization XIII. But in truth, it didn't really feel as though the story was all about Roxas and the Organization as people hoped for. It was more like focusing on only Roxas, Axel, and Xion and what sort of adventures they had. Although as the story progressed, the game seemed a little too focused on Roxas and Xion. Not so much with Axel anymore, as well as the Organization. In other words what I'm saying is, his role in the game was starting to feel more and more minor. As for Xion. Well, I can see why people see her as an unnecesarry character. She felt a lot like as if Nomura decided to slam a random character in Days and dub her as "important" in the series. She didn't feel important at all. I mean sure she had Sora's memories and had to return them to him, but that was just it. She was pretty much another big reason why the game didn't focus all too much on the Organization.

As for Re:Coded. Well, story wise it didn't feel all that important. It just felt like KH1 all over again. Only with a few tweaks added. And really, instead of going through all that stuff why not just put what Mickey wrote either at the end of KH2 or KH3D? We didn't really need all that extra stuff just to find out what one message said. The only reason why it got a little important because it had something to do with BBS and Days, as well as what to expect in KH3D.

i always think they arent unnecessary.

I mean, there wouldnt be Xion and we wouldnt know about things that kh3 is focusing about (saving and restoration of xehanort). of course there is more it is focusing, but its good we know something.

This was horrible.

Days was, in the heads of many, "unnecessary" because it had its own story, its own plot, not too relevant to the Kingdom Hearts series in general.

However, as an independent story, as its own game, it had a beautiful plot. It was amazing, and there was a lot of smbolism in this game, as well.

Xion is, as most people agree, a dramatic characters, but not necessarily a Mary Sue. If she's a Mary Sue, than I'd say all KH characters are Mary Sues due to their dramatic stories.

And I'm sure Coded will be relevant to KH3D or KH3 somehow.

days is tact on plot and overall plot works fine without that game.In my opinion focusing game on two most unlikable characters is better saved for manga.Days had terrible writing,Badly made characters and plot that seems like bad fan fiction.Another reason i hate 358/2 days is the death scene

Here's death scene done right

But it's all up to personal taste and this is just opinion.

I am not gonna lie, I enjoyed 358/2 Days greatly. It was was a lot of fun, and had a decent story. However, that being said. It isnt actually very relevent the main plot. Where Sora's memories went when Namine took them is a plot point that isnt really necessary to continue the story. While the game is good as a stand alone title. It is not a necessary purchase if you are playing Kingdom Hearts for the story.

Coded was a rehash game designed purely to give diehard fans something to do on their cellphones that resembled Kingdom Hearts. It isnt a necessary part of the series, nor was it intended to be. Coded was purely created as a timekiller. Re:Coded is just an upgraded version of that game for anyone who absolutly has to have everything with the title logo on it, but their phone couldnt get it, either due to performance issues or region locks.

My Verdict:

358/2 Days: If you are looking for a fun game to play with a familiar world to play in, buy it, love it, share it. If you are just looking for relevent plotpoints dont waste your money.

Re:Coded: There is no reason to purchase this game unless you are a rabid KH addict that can't survive without haveing the essence of Sora injected directly into your bloodstream. You are much better off just replaying the original titles while you wait for Dream Drop Distance. If you absolutly have to know what happened, watch the cutscenes on youtube. Even then you are most likely wasting your time as it mostly seems like deleted scenes.

recoded and 358/2 where good games,

but it would be cooler in recoded if there was a riku part like in CoM

358/2 you could only play Roxas in the story, (Not that Roxas is bad in the game) it would be much better/cooler if you could play Xion and Axel in a different chapter but in the same story, that you would have to fight Xion in the end playing Axel or otherwise :D

Days told the story of Roxas and the Organization.

Re:coded was only so Mickey could write a letter.

Difference: Days is (kind of) necessary. Coded is not.

When you think about it, the entire KH series brings up random plotpoints that are important for only one game, then it's not as important anymore: the Keyblade of People's Hearts, Org. 13, Xion, Bug Blox, Unversed, and the Keyblade War. For 358/Days, it should have been about the Org. instead of just Roxas, and Xion should not have even been made up. She was brought up in this one game, then everyone just forgot about her. As for Re:Coded, nothing that important seemed to happen except for Sora finding out about TAV, and it wasn't even the real Sora. They should have rehashed the KH2 worlds because that has worlds we've only been to one time, while the KH1 worlds have been rehashed already in COM. Having these games on the DS just makes them shorter, which makes them feel less important.

well im just going to go ahead and say no matter what anyone else thinks about the games i liked them i thought the game play in re coded was fun like how the battle style at the colloseem was like playing ff while with days i liked finding out what made roxas turn his back to the organization and how he tried to free kingdom hearts for xion as her last request to him and i still got plenty more reasons why i liked these two games nessasary or not

Re:Coded was important to the plot line; it was, as Jiminy (I think) said, there in order to connect "those memories with these"; basically, to connect the 11-years-ago events of Birth By Sleep to the present. Though by itself not the best game, it was an important part of the overall storyline.

As for Days...there were several little hints for the upcoming BBS in it through Xigbar and Xemnas. By itself, it was a cute and nice story, and the final connection to the events of KH2 really completed it and gave a depth to the Kingdom Hearts storyline. Plus it was fun to be organization members! And think how boring days would have been if Xion hadn't been there; there would have literally been no storyline. Also, after all of the focus on Roxas in the beginning of KH2 and then suddenly going back into Sora, it was obvious that there would be more about his time in the Organization in another game.

It's gonna be so awesome to see all of these people who bash (and refuse to play) all the 'spinoffs' for being unimportant get totally confused when KH3 comes out =)

I played them all. I still found Days and Coded to be unnecessary for the series. I loved days, but you certainly wont be lost without it.

Days added a little something (notice the little), Coded didn't. But some people also refuse to play BBS since it isn't numbered.

The scene you speak of is a montage of the events of all of the games. Its not heralding the return of Xion or anything like that, simply giving a shout out to another game in the series. I loved 358/2 Days it was a great game, but what I am pointing out here is that it wasnt plot essential. When my friends ask me about the series and whether they "have to play this game". I tell them they HAVE to play Chain of Memories, they HAVE to play BBS. But 358/2 days isnt necessary to understand the story, so I only recommend it to my friends who simply want to play a Kingdom Hearts game or a good DS game.
