Jim 2,990 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) I'm just gonna spew off some random ones here. Probably a lot of 'relgiousness' inbound: It ticks me off when atheists think it's funny/clever/worthwhile to belittle us Christians and call us idiots just for having a faith. But what ticks me off more is that so many of us Christians are guilty of doing the exact same freaking thing to them. I mean, really? Both sides need to just stop taking an "us-versus-them" mentality. We need to just stop arguing over something that can't scientifically be proven or disproven, and realize that it's one's own decision. It's something that's absolutely worth having a respectful conversation about, but I feel like that level of respect is so rare these days. I've never been on the receiving end of this quote, but here goes anyway: I thought the "Kill yourself" meme was a little entertaining with the pictures and stuff, but people on the internet just take it too far. For example: Idiot A makes stupid comment on facebook. Idiot B tells Idiot A to kill themselves, because of stupid comment. I feel like it's bad enough to insult some random internet stranger for their beliefs/skin color/etc., but telling someone to kill themselves just seems to cross the line even further, in my opinion. Now, I've seen some messed up stuff on the internet, and I don't get offended easily, but telling someone "kill yourself" seems to be just too far. Maybe it's just me, but whatever. Political smearing ads annoy me. It's come to that day in age where commercials don't even tell you what a candidate can do-- They only tell you what his/her opponent CAN'T do! I mean, really? I feel like political ads should say, "Hello, look at what I can do for you! This is how I can help you and your country, more effectively than my opponent!" But instead, I feel like they say: "Hey, I may be a crappy candidate, but he's even crappier! Just look at all the horribly bad stuff he's done! Look at how he voted to give himself a pay raise! Isn't he bad? Now because he's so bad, you should vote for me. Oh, what can I do to help the country, you ask? Don't worry about it. Just remember that my opponent is a terrible person and should go die in a hole. I'm ______ and I approve this message." So yeah, there are my 1:00 in the morning rants. Feel free to respond to it, shoot it down, or correct my grammar. Geralt 4,874 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) High School is kind of a waste of time, they teach you stuff that you'd need to be a rocket scientist or a historian and such. I agree, the only problem is that both sides are completely contridicting each other. Thus conflict starts to arise when it comes to religious arguments. Still, people should learn to respect anothers belief. It's like when people say these days "Oh I'm better than those people in the early civilization and more civilized" when they act the same. My belief is more surperior to your belief. People still do that Edited November 26, 2012 by Shana09 2 4Everbee and Jim reacted to this

I feel like there's so much of that thought process (among other negative ones) in people who call themselves 'Christians' these days, and now people think that we're just a group of judgmental, misogynous, homophobic stuck-ups. It's frustrating. Edited November 26, 2012 by Jim

It's frustrating. People always hate a group when a few rotten apples make an impact then the whole group is blamed. It happened to the Muslims and South Asia. It happened to the Christians. It happened to...practically everyone in a way. There are people who aren't completely rude and awful towards other groups because they know that the few rotten apples are the ones to blame, not the entire group. People either just hate the group out of anger since they experienced a situation that concerns them, or they just do. Which is unfair to those who haven't done anything awful. Think Pink 1,967 Posted November 30, 2012 I think the whole idea of having a "gifted" program at school is ridiculous. At least where I live, in third grade, you take a test. The test determines whether you get bussed off 3 days a week to some special place to learn about math and science. They basically do nothing with the other kids while the "gifted" kids are gone, which hinders their education. The message they send to those kids is: You are stupid. You are not as smart as other kids. That test follows you through 8th grade. It sets those kids up for failure, and dividing little children like that is sick. It needs to be removed IMMEDIATELY. 3 TheApprenticeofKingMickey, baylaust and Koko reacted to this

The problem isn't the existence of a program to cater to kids who can learn beyond what's taught in the normal curriculum. The problem is doing so at the expense of the "normal" students. You may think the message is "You're not smart as the other kids," but if the students in the gifted program want to learn beyond what's normally taught, the message they get is "Don't be smart or work harder than what's average because it makes others jealous." There wouldn't be a problem if they appropriately divided the teaching labor. 3 Godot, DragonMaster and TheApprenticeofKingMickey reacted to this

That sounds messed up. The school system around here has a similar system. However, the students in the program are simply put into different classes than those not in the program. Its somewhat like High School works with Honors and AP classes (have a normal class, and the more advanced classes for those who want to take them). Note to Lexi: This post isn't completely directed towards you and it also adds on to what you said. That's like the segregated classrooms up here in Canada. In ninth grade, the grade you get in your provincial achievement tests determine what courses you'll take in high school and eventually, college/university. If you fail or do poorly, you're placed into what's called a Knowledge and Employability classroom. The government can't ignore you because it's against the laws in the Chart of Rights and Freedoms (what is basically an equivalent to the American Constitution) but they also think those kids aren't smart enough to get a diploma or get into university. So instead they group us together and make us learn about how to enter the work force because they want to get us out of way, off the government's checklist so we can work at McDonald's the rest of our lives. They don't think we're smart enough to be successful. But most of these kids are really, really intelligent, some more intelligent than neurotypical students. They just learn differently and don't fit under the norm of mainstream intelligence and learning. They try to challenge our difficulties instead of playing with our strengths.Like myself. I know I'm intelligent and I'm pretty sure you can see that too. But the government doesn't give a shit. They placed me in said segregated classroom because they thought I couldn't be successful. I hate it, I hate them. And to be honest, I want to go to university or college. I want to major in language, translating and creative writing. But I can't unless I graduate with a diploma and I can't take the normal courses because they're too hard for me. Which is why I'm going to push. Push my provincial government to make changes, to hopefully revolutionize the education system. And I wish (maybe it's naïve of me) that that change could spread nation wide and hopefully, outside of Canada too. 2 baylaust and Think Pink reacted to this
