Dave 5,715 Posted October 23, 2016 Our generation likes to make believe that politics doesn't effect them on a daily basis, which in fact only worsens the problem they claim to be aloof from. Apathy and misplaced superiority doesn't change the fact that every engagement with another person is a political action whether we like it or not, and if we were more active in our participation in politics, it would deepen our understanding of our constant interaction with the world as a whole, rather than dig us deeper into our entrenched, baseless belief that we stand apart from anything greater than ourselves. 2 2 quid is good and Shimmy reacted to this
Master Eraqus 1,340 Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) I've already made a topic about this, but screw it. I wanna do it again. *clears throat* I think that so many people nowadays, when it comes to movies, shows and the stories of video games, are just so spoiled; like they're all critics and nitpick the crap out of everything. To me, it almost feels like they hate just for the sake of hating. Now I'm not saying that it's wrong to dislike/hate a story; it's perfectly fine. Y'know, opinions are opinions; nothing more. But it just feels like to me that a lot of people try to find the bad things of a movie/show/video game and claim that it's bad because of those things. Like as if the first 15 minutes of a movie was bad and the rest of the movie was incredible and yet people just talk about the bad constantly and claim that the entire movie is bad just because of those first 15 minutes. In my mind, I just think, "Oh shut up and just enjoy the damn movie." I constantly question why so many people have to act like spoiled critics instead of just enjoying the movie/show/video game and be done with it. The reason I feel this way is because of the way I watch movies/shows/video games, and thankfully, I finally found a perfect comparison to explain it. When I watch a movie, I simply watch and enjoy. I don't care about character development, I don't care about pacing, I don't care if a character was one-dimensional and I don't care if someone's motivations weren't clear or weren't there at all. I'm not saying I hate these concepts; I'm saying that I'm simply indifferent towards them. Here's the comparison I mentioned earlier: When I watch a movie, it's the same as when I eat food. Stay with me here. When I eat food, I don't care about its texture, I don't care how it was presented to me, I don't care who made it and I don't care how it looks. I just grab it, eat it, taste it and then I like it or not (or love it or hate it but you get the idea). The only time I ever 'criticise' food is when there is something I simply can't ignore, like if it's too hot or cold or if it just tastes awful. The equivalent of this with movies is if I think a movie is too long or I got bored or maybe I just simply didn't like it; I don't need to explain why I didn't like it; I just didn't, end of story. I used to be subscribed to CinemaSins cause I used to find their videos funny, but then it just felt like they were so spoiled and just nitpick everything. I get that it's not meant to be taken completely seriously, but it still feels spoiled to me. Thus I move to CinemaWins. I'll probably edit this later cause I gotta go somewhere now, but I think you all get my point. Shimmy 458 Posted October 23, 2016 Unpopular opinions? Sure I'll bite. A negative thought process does not inherently mean better informed. A person who is explicitly positive about something they enjoy and is unable to list problems with their favorites opinions are not less valid. People are biased and have subjective opinions and there is no way around that and that's a-ok. Everyone's opinions are valid and there is no hierarchy. A mangaka could give you 500 chapters of absolute greatness and just because the final 5 or 10 aren't good everyone would dismiss it as trash. Gamers are also just as bad as anime fans from time to time. "This game doesn't run at 68.9999 fps!!! It sucks!" I do think that all that stuff about characters having development is important and story pacing also. But if I still enjoy the story then I just accept most of those things the way they are. They would consider it trash or milked. You just can't enjoy something without someone nitpicking. "Ubisoft should stop milking Assassin's Creed", "You like Bleach? Bleach sucks, your taste in anime is bad" "FIRETRUCK THESE FILLERS!" (this one I understand, but they kind of overreact) and other nonsense like that. Also, probably the worst is how they react when you call anime a cartoon... Out of the gaming community, PC gamers are the worst. They think they are all high and mighty with their powerful machines, Steam, discount consoles just for not being a computer and brag about emulators. I'm a PC gamer myself, though seeing other PC gamers do that kind of bugs me. Now, I'm not saying that the entirety of both communities are like this, but a minority of them are. Sendou Aichi 2,356 Posted October 23, 2016 The original Yugioh(aka DM) is the worst YGO series. It has plenty of cool moments, but plenty of bad ones as well. The rules get contently changed(Just read this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NewRulesAsThePlotDemands), sometimes without even proper explanation, and Yami is abusing the hell out of it. The duels drag out a lot too(most duels last at least 4 episodes unlike duels since the 5D's era which last 2 at max unless it is against a big antagonist or got a lot of plot) Kaiba almost never won any duel that was actually important to him either. What bothers me about the gaming and anime communities is that whatever is mainstream is automatically discounted. They would consider it trash or milked. I have seen so many anime fans get triggered/trolled(mostly the latter) just by someone calling an anime cartoon, and when it was just a troll all he had to do was call anime a cartoon and that's it. Like the recent game Mafia III for instance. People are very split about that game, but me I personally absolutely love it. That game has so much great about it. But a ton of other people are just nitpicking at just the tiniest and most stupidest things. And sure the game does have it's actual problems (bugs and such), but people are just complaining about other things that don't truly matter. It's been killing me. And there's literally many other games that had similar problems/features/design choices that people are complaining about for Mafia III, yet in those other games people aren't complaining and they rated those games more positively. Like....what? Seriously?!?! Bleh, it's nice to finally get that off my plate though. Edited October 23, 2016 by Geralt

My Hero Academia will be the next Naruto-Everyone says it won't but trust me, once the anime adapts the Midnight Raid arc, Training Camp arc and Hero Killer arc, it will blow the hell up. Enough with anime and manga for now... Where did all the anti graphics people come from? I don't want to be spending full price on a game that looks ugly. It's 2016, standards have changed. When I pay money for a game, I'm paying for a good looking game with good gameplay, and depending on the genre-a good story. Graphics make the game visually pleasing. If you can make it look good, then why not? It adds polish and shows that the company care. If people hate graphics so much then go play space invaders and minesweeper. All you do is run around and explore. I don't think they are overrated, but nearly every open world game nowadays is a copy and paste of the GTA formula . Some of the best games of all time imo are open world. But a lot of them are just bland 3rd person shooters with an open world where you can do the exact same things as GTA. I believe that a game doesn't need good graphics to be a good game. Look at Minecraft. That game took the world by storm and the graphics were really bad. Undertale and Shovel Knight have retro graphics for modern games, but they still get praise in the gaming community. So in the end, graphics will matter depending on the game. When people like myself say that everyone assumes we mean 4k 16 x anistropic filtering max anti aliasing etc etc. That is not what I mean, a retro game can still have good graphics. For what Shovel Knight and Undertale are going for, they look good. The game should look good for what it's trying to accomplish. Would you buy a piece of art for your house if you didn't like how it looked?

Shulk 8,623 Posted October 24, 2016 Almost all console and PC fanboys are trash, and the "console wars" are even more stupid. The Wii U was a good system that didn't get a chance to shine. Fanboys are terrible 99% of the time. Absolutely agree on this one. It's one of my absolute favorite consoles, but everyone writes it off for not being as powerful as the PS4/XBOne and not having a lot of third-party support. The first-party selection is fantastic, though. A lot of people criticize its library for being more Smash/Mario Kart/whatever else, but the entries it has in those series are arguably the most well-polished and best entries in their respective series, and it had a lot of representation from new IPs (Splatoon, NintendoLand), new spins on old IPs (Pokken), or continuations of obscure/newer IPs that were all fantastic (Xenoblade X, Bayonetta 2). It has a few misses, but overall, it's a great system. I'm glad that I went with the Wii U before getting a PS4. On the subject of Splatoon, I personally find it to be the only team-based competitive shooter I can get into. That's not to say that others are bad, but I just don't really get invested in any others. Team Fortress 2 is fun but I feel like I didn't improve even after putting in ~100 hours and I just wasn't having enough fun to regularly play it past that (I was really into it for a while which is how I got so much time), Half-Life Deathmatch 1+2 are both really fun but the community pretty much only consists of the people that have played for years so newcomers are totally screwed over unless they just join private games with friends, and I don't really want to pay money on games like Overwatch that honestly look like just TF2 with more class options (not to say that it looks bad, but not something I'd want to play unless it was free). ... and I feel like that Overwatch part is probably going to be the most controversial part of this entire post I made, but I just haven't seen anything about it that would make me find worth in buying it. Nothing against those that have bought it and enjoyed it, but it doesn't look like anything too special to me.
