The Unpopular Opinions Thread

Math is terrible: you never actually go : Ok... my garden is 10x10, and each seed can be 5 inches apart, and I have 300 seeds...

F**k NO!!!

You just plant the damn seeds!

90% of math is like this, and i'm sick of being forced to learn it.

Geometry based math is very important for construction, especially trigonometry. Engineering and architecture requires lots of mathematical equations usually having to do with forces.Accountants have to deal with numbers almost constantly.Statistician, even if you think they are useless, use math a whole lot.Scientists need to use statistics in experiments, to basically say "these results aren't just caused by random chance."Knowing your way around percentages is useful when buying and selling stuff.

And like others have said, recommended planting distances are recommended for a reason. Also with proper spacing you can plant 576 seeds in that plot. (Only 529 if you are also making sure they are 5 inches away from the edge of the garden.) Now with that information you can plan if you want to give the seeds extra space or if you are wanting to get more seeds or plant other plants as well. (if you chose to grant extra space, the optimal distance would be around 6.55 inches away from the edge and each other.) Sure you might think that is useless, and who has time to measure distances for 300 seeds. But with commercial farming you need to know how to optimize your farm land for the best crop growth. And probably your tractors or what ever you plant with has a semi-precise seed placement system. Which could get those distances. But then again I could be wrong.

This opinion must be very unpopular: I also just meant every stupid detail of math, like fractions and decimals, not the basic need~to~know stuff.

Yes, you picked the right thread to post it in.I will give you that sometimes things are almost too well defined in math for the average person. Though in my opinion parts of a whole is an extremely useful concept for the average person to know.to know. And Converting a decimal to a fraction usually takes more effort than it is worth, unless if you can just have a calculator do it. (there are some pluses to fractions instead of decimals...sometimes.) And converting fractions to decimals is also useful, since sometimes real numbers are more useful than fractions.  Though with converting fractions to decimals that is just a couple button presses on a calculator. And proofs may seem silly and pointless, but without them we would have a whole lot of false and nearly correct identities, equations, and theories. And teaching people to make proofs is good. Though I do admit it is quite painful.

That it is... but I'll survive.

I hope writing majors don't need much math.... >.>

Writing majors don't need anymore than the minimum.  I was able to stop at pre calculus, which is like algebra on hard mode.  But you really shouldn't rule out math completely.  No matter how annoying and painful it is, it's there for a reason, and I think you should have a decent grasp on it at least for the sake of things like finances.

I have a reasonable grasp on it: i just despise it, and wouldn't mind terribly if my teacher fell down some stairs. >.>

Probably not much math (probably a single course), but if you intend to write fiction, some psychology classes may help "understand the mind" and have more "realistic" characters. Though you could probably study psychology online instead of actual courses, and look at different theories of personalities. Though if you want a degree in the arts (which writing falls under), depending on the college/university, you might need to take some foreign language courses.

My hate for Final Fantasy XIII was undeserved and I apologize.

It's now unpopular to apologize?

I am sorry world for any whining I did in the last year!

I hate most Disney princesses: I just wanted to take Snow White to rehab to get her off her helium addiction.

That voice... AHH!

As a kid, I could actually hardly understand anything she said. And I was like "why did they pick someone that talked like that?"

shakespeare is actually pretty cool once you get past the fact you don't understand 80% of it without help

Very much agreed.

I don't get the hate of certain things on google these days: hate for fan art of FROZEN and stuff, hate for Jack Frost fan fics, hate for Harry Potter music videos...

WTF, people? No one really wants to be dissed, even if their work could've been better.

People need to zip it, and go do something else: like my grandma used to say:

" If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

I think there's a big difference between hating on something for the sake of it versus giving legitimate criticism which some people refuse to take because they never want to leave their bubble of being praised for work that could be better.

I mean comments like;

WTF? That crap is sh*t. No one watches ( show/movie/anime)

Flush it, wh**e!

Oh great, more (movie/anime/show) fansh*t...

THAT'S what i meant.
