The Unpopular Opinions Thread

Recommended Posts

Reminds me of a quote from Over the Hedge when one of the characters points to a car and says, "Humans ride around in these because they are slowly losing their ability to walk".

Its true. Technology......although it has truly helped us a lot, has also robbed us of the value of hard work.

I posted this on tumblr because that's where the majority of hate is coming from in the first place, but decided to post it here too.

If you hate somebody just because they were born a certain way, you’re a firetrucking asshole.

If you hate someone because they’re a firetrucking asshole, then there’s totally nothing wrong with that.

Look, can people please just stop hating on others for what they take pride in? This includes weight, religion, ethnicity, race, social status, sexuality, etc.

If you’re going to hate somebody then hate them because they’re an individual and not a whole group because you know the firetruck what, out of a group of people there are always the INNOCENT, DECENT ones.

Insulting somebody because they're overweight MAKES YOU A DICK.

Insulting somebody because they're really skinny ALSO MAKES YOU A DICK.

Insulting somebody because of their race, no matter if they're white, black, blue, yellow, green, I don't care, MAKES YOU A DICK.

Insulting somebody because of their sexuality whether they're gay, straight - ANYTHING - ALSO MAKES YOU A DICK.

Look, I don't care WHAT you're insulting somebody for, I don't care if its a firetrucking majority or a firetrucking minority you do NOT INSULT PEOPLE BECAUSE THAT MAKES YOU A firetruckING PRICK ASSHOLE FSGGOT MOTHERfiretruckER SON OF A BITCH PATHETIC LOSER.

ughh sorry I'm just SO MAD RIGHT NOW because thre is SO MUCH HATE AROUND LIKE STOP. STOP HATING. SHUT THE firetruck UP.

Its true. Technology......although it has truly helped us a lot, has also robbed us of the value of hard work.

While ultimately I do agree it is due to technological advances that we don't value hard work as much, it isn't the technology itself. A lot of it comes from us now having more free time giving us the ability to think and over think things. Which has led to a change in the philosophies of the people. And because of that, parents might not tell a kid that they HAVE to work through some pain. Or that they can't just abandon a task mid way. For they believe it is better to be "kind" all the time, than to force kids to work hard. But that only is part of the problem, and I do believe there are lots of parents do know a good mixture of toughness and coddling.

A different problem is that hard work isn't always rewarded. For me, a lot of the time I simply can get by doing as well or better than other people by putting the minimum effort I can live with putting in. So, it becomes what's the point? It isn't hard work that is rewarded, it is results. And technology didn't make that so. Now you maybe wondering, do I value hard work? Yes I do, and I think what I can get away with is unfair to the others that worked harder and performed worse.

I am just trying to say that in my opinion it has more to do with philosophies than with technologies for how we value hard work. And at least for me walking I will never consider walking obsoleted by cars. Now if there were functional teleporters stationed at every building, yeah, walking in the outdoors would be obsolete for all those who don't need to explore/work outdoors.

I wasnt saying that its completely because of technological advancement. But look at how things are. Hardly anyone ever writes things down anymore, and I mean the old fashioned way, with paper and pencil/pen. Though everyone will make up the excuse of the lack of trees, but when did we start worrying about that? And why? Not that typing is bad, but people hardly even know how to spell these days, its pathetic. They'll use spell check, which isnt completely reliable. People are becoming lazier and lazier by the day, and that causes creativity to decline. Creative ideas leads to new products that consumers want and or need, which brings in money. Take out creativity, and you shut down product ideas, meaning no money and disastrous results. But this isnt the fault of technology. It is we the people who are at fault. Even if we're not cheating the system, if we dont do anything to help then we're just as bad if not worse as those who are. And I know, you'll probably ask why I'm not doing anything about it. Here's the thing: One person cannot tackle this gigantic problem alone and expect results. It requires the collective efforts of others along with the one to accomplish such a task.

Actually Ducky is correct. Its that very hatred thats strengthening the laziness that cripples our country. The hatred turns people into monsters, who in turn terrify other people, specifically the thinkers needed for creative thinking. They're scared because those who arent as smart as them feel to make themselves feel better, they need to tear apart any chance of anyone else being happy. And when the good people stand by and let it happen, it sets the country up for self-destruction.

People who seem to think the only point of Mass Effect is to "lol dood you gotta get in dem panties? Fuck you.

Mass Effect is an amazing game, with an amazing story, amazing characters, amazing dialogue, and a whole shit ton of depth, and all people seem to be able to fixate on is the fact you can occasionally bang one of the other characters. And they seem to think that the whole game is just one big ole' alien dating sim. And whenever I see someone act like that's the point, I feel absolute rage fill my veins, because it so much more then that.

Not to mention the fact that the fucking is brought on after you spend the whole game (or if you have the same romance for all three games, then you spend the whole series) having a blossoming relationship with. The small amount of sex that occurs (one thirty second at maximum scene per game) comes after having a relationship with the person. And that's beautiful.

So not only is the sex a small part of the game, but it's also a really well done way of doing it. And people just objectify that one part of the series and it pisses me off beyond comprehension.

You dont know how right you are, roxsox. And its not just that way in Mass Effect, its how people see everything. They think they need one little piece is enough, and completely ignore the rest of it

(Unrelated opinion)

I would like Anime and Manga if I was not terrified of it. I feel intimidated by it whenever I see it, and if I am not intimidated by it, then I simply find it uncomfortable to look at in some way. I am sure that there is some sort of genre in the medium that suits me, but I am too scared to do any research to find out what that genre might be.

For much of last year, an Anime film that I found out about that is named 'Colorful' almost drove me mad. I wanted to see it, but I was extremely unsure about what the consequences could have been. To a lesser extent, I still feel that way to this day.

I generally treat Anime and Manga in the same way that I treat fire; it may look interesting, but if I touch it, I will probably get hurt.

I thought the only people that looked at only that part of the series were people who said "OH NOES THERE IS SEX IN THIS GAME!" and then people trying to make fun of having it near the final battle... Though I guess there might be other people who make that comparison.

I do agree that it is rare to see people physically write anything but simple reminders and phone-numbers in their spare time. Though I must say at the college I go to, out of the 100+ students I have had classes with, I have only seen two people use laptops to take notes. I personally prefer typing to writing with pen/paper most of the time because my typing speed is a whole lot faster than my writing speed. To me it is a question of efficiency. Also it is much easier to edit whole paragraphs on a computer compared to pencil/paper. While I do agree that spell check can make people feel like they don't need to remember how words are spelled, it really depends on the person using it.For me, I don't treat spell check as a friend, I treat it as something that nags me when I spell something wrong. So, I actually try my best to remember the proper way of spelling words to stop its nagging me...

That being said, it is amazing how bad some people spell ON THE INTERNET. Don't most browsers have built in spell checks at this point? And yet some people somehow still have tons of spelling errors that it should have caught. That's an example of laziness, not even using a function readily available to them.

And yes, I agree that the problems need people to work together to get better, and it isn't technologies fault for the laziness of people. (even though it assists laziness, as you said.) My personal philosophy about helping, which isn't the best, is to help fix what's wrong right around you and just try to be the best you can be. Though I must admit I sometimes fail at the latter.

I am honestly not sure. It simply seems to have an air of superiority about it that makes me feel like I should stay away from it at all costs.

I don't want to poke fun at you if you have a serious medical problem to explain that fear, but I'm just curious, why? And wouldn't KH frighten you as it's very much anime-based? Sorry anime and manga scares you, but there's nothing to be afraid of. They're just fictional stories of comic books and cartoon shows. Are you not afraid of anime and manga itself, but afraid you'll become obsessed with it...?

Do you know if the air is coming from the actual shows or ideas from fanboys of the medium called anime?

I seriously doubt that I have a medical problem of any kind that is associated with it, and this feeling about it is definitely not new. KH actually does have the same effect on me; this is why I no longer watch the cut-scenes (as much as I want to) or play the games that I own. I am not afraid that I will become obsessed with it; this would not be a negative effect on me. They are definitely not the same as 'comic books and cartoon shows'; they are superior, which is a part of why I need to stay away from them.

My point is that people have become lazy. More and more lazy every single day of every year. Every year, every month, every day, every hour minute and second people become lazy. And things get that much worse because of it. Its ultimately going to lead to the destruction of our nation because noone cares anymore.

It is too difficult to explain as it is, so I should probably stop talking about it now.

I think people who criticize things on a higher level without experiencing said thing first are arrogant. I can't stand when someone starts listing off reasons why they hate something and then they throw in there "oh but I've never seen it". Like excuse me you have the nerve to talk about something you basically have no personal knowledge of trying to convince me your opinion is superior? It's even worse when they talk about something I like. Go learn more about the subject before you talk to me about it and then I will gladly listen to what you have to say. But at the moment you're doing is probably paraphrasing what you read on a review site.

No because you hate the over-eccentric fan base. And I'm sure you've at least seen a few clips of mlp before like in a Ytp or something so if you dislike it based off that that's perfectly fine (I dislike it too)But I was referring more along the lines of someone who is very elaborate with their criticism thinking they know everything about it without actually knowing anything since they have no desire to learn about it because they won't watch the show/movie, read the book, etc. Edited by Lalalablah

Sorry for liking a show about colorful ponies.  I'll kill myself to appease you because I'm such an awful human being.

Though keep in mind many haters are just what Lalalablah said: people who pass judgment on an entire work or its fanbase based on a few cursory glances or the stupidity of the vocal minority.

This may be the most unpopular opinion I can come up with concerning Kingdom Hearts, but...

I don't want KH3 to come out soon. Simply because if 2.5 is going to be announced at TGS, obviously a possibly new KH3 trailer will overshadow the 2nd HD collection. And this year and the next they should just soley focus on 2.5. That and I just want a little bit more out of the story just before the Xehanort saga ends, but of course that's just me~
