waytothexdawnx 1,159 Posted September 21, 2011 I have NO idea where I want to go! I have a few different talents. I have a natural cooking talent. I have my own recipe blog and I cook/bake homemade stuff all the time. I post pictures on FB of my meals. It's something I love to do, but I know the industry is awful. My Uncle is a restaurant manager and he says a lot of people in the industry do "coke" just to stay awake. You literally work almost 24/7, get no breaks, pretty much have no life.. So I have a feeling if I went in that field, it would take away my love for it. I love gaming. Not just Kingdom Hearts, though that is my favorite, I like ALL video games. I sketch and draw (I post them on here all the time haha) but I don't know if I'm actually good enough to be an art or graphic designer. I would LOVE to be a QA (Video Game) Tester. Check for glitches, give thorough and organized reports.. I'm good at that stuff, but of course there are NO jobs like that where I live. I would also love to have worked my way up to be an Assistant Producer or Executive Lead Producer (and I am aware that takes many many years, if it even does happen). I also love Marine Biology, as I love all marine life, plants and even shells and rocks. However, I did a LOT of research on the industry and it's pretty much you can work independently or with a company but you work long hours, make no money and you don't "make it" unless you're already well known or discover something crucial to the industry. I have no idea what direction to turn. Nothing else really interests me. I'm a free spirit and I would hate to end up in a stuffy gray office somewhere pushin paper, ya know?? Is anyone else going through this?? Have any advice?? I'm getting worried
echo 69 Posted September 21, 2011 When you find something you really love to do, the downsides wont matter. Just do something you love and everyting else will work out
rikunobodyxiii 700 Posted September 21, 2011 I agree with echo. Find out which of those you love doing most. Yes, there are down sides. There are downsides to everything. But , if you love the work enough, you can live with the the other.
Oishii 3,987 Posted September 21, 2011 I was in the same boat as you. What I did was just started out in a community college doing general education courses (I have an AS in General Education. So useless ). But I got to try a little bit of everything and found a career path that I wouldn't have thought of while in high school. And gen eds are good to take because about every major requires them. If you can't make a choice, you might want to consider doing that.
Space Cowboy 1,392 Posted September 21, 2011 Find out what you are most passionate about, and go on from there. If you love video games, there a lot of schools around the country that actually recruit people that like to design them, test them, etc. You should check out the Art Institutes. . waytothexdawnx 1,159 Posted September 21, 2011 Thank you everyone for the advice! I truly appreciate it The thing is, I'm passionate about ALL of them LOL they all individually make me happy. If I could be in all of those fields, I would. My passion for cooking is mainly for entertainment. I like to entertain people with it. I like to throw parties, play hostess, have everyone know what I made and that it's all from scratch. I don't think being in an industrial kitchen would be good for me. I'm guessing catering could be an option? As for video games: LOVE them. Been an avid gamer since I was 4. Believe it or not and I'm not just saying this because of KH (though it's part of it) but Tetsuya Nomura has always been an inspiration to me. Especially to know he came from humble beginnings in that industry and how far he's come at a young age. His creativity and work is something I deeply respect. I'd love to work with video games somehow. There's so many different options, I'd really have to do my research on where I'd fit in. Marine Biology.. I think that's more of an interest. I want to save the sharks that are being finned, also save dolphins, contribute to keeping oceans clean and safe for the animals and humans. I think that'd be more charity work in my case. Lastly, I honestly believe I have a tremendous lack of self esteem problem. I'm so scared of failure and disappointment that I give myself anxiety over it. I just want to be someone important somewhere. I want to make a difference and I want to be respected. I know I have to pay my dues and endure a lot of different things, people and situations.. But as soon as I think of all that, I get so scared and think "I can't do it".. it's awful. I really need to change that because it's holding me back! rikunobodyxiii 700 Posted September 22, 2011 Self esteem is always an issue to be dealt with, no matter who you are. You can do this, if you want to. Will it be hard, most likely. But worth it.
Xenidal 36 Posted September 22, 2011 I want to save the sharks that are being finned What does that mean? Like people are removing fins from sharks?! I've never heard of this
waytothexdawnx 1,159 Posted September 22, 2011 What does that mean? Like people are removing fins from sharks?! I've never heard of this Omg yes! In Japan (go figure) they cut their fins off, then let them drown! And its all to make freakin shark fin soup! It's a delacacy there. You should Google it. They have websites and charities dedicated to stop it. You see awful pictures (it has to be shown though, so people know whats going on), and how you can help to prevent it. It's awful and absolutely sick what they do to these poor animals. It makes me cry http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/smiley-cry.png
Churro 132 Posted September 23, 2011 You're not alone in that department. It took me about 8 years after high school before I finally figured out what I want to try my hand at. It wasn't until I attended E3 this year that I wanted to try to be a journalist/public relations. Hell I've been doing this stuff for 9 years as a hobby and it finally dawned on me. Writing KH news for that long got me to do things I've never done before and meet the fantastic people along the way. Sometimes you either know what you want to do or sometimes it just clicks. I've always thought I would have a background in building computers and writing software but that's not the case now. And sometimes you have to test the waters on what you want to be before you finally decide on it. Don't worry, it'll come to you.
