Weapon: Gunblade(I'll think of a name for it later)

Appearance: 5'7. Long straight auburn hair that goes down to her lower back. Wears a white tank, short black jacket, with skinny jeans.

Emi

Weapon: Knives

Appearance: 5'4. Bright pink, straight, shoulder-length hair. Wears a purple sleeveless top, with a black mini-skirt.

Age: 18

Logan

Weapon: A sword and two guns.

Appearance: 5'9. (His hair can look exactly like Logan Lerman's because I can't come up with anything else ). His outfit looks like Zack Fair's just without the shoulder pads or whatever their called.

Age: 21

Appearance: 5'6, with short, spikey blonde hair. She wears white sleeves that dangle, and have large bows near her wrists. She wears a black shirt, and white cargo shorts, with a few belts looped around her waist.

Ryker

Weapon: Tae-Kwon-Do skills 8D

Appearance: 6'0. He has navy-colored hair that is clean cut, but still is slightly long. He wears a brown-and-green out-of-date Army uniform.

Age: 19

 

Colton

Weapon: A knife

Appearance: 5'6, short for his age. He wears a gray shirt, and black jeans, with a red jacket on top.

Age: 17

Prologue

300 YEARS BEFORE FF13...

Cocoon was attacked by the inhabitants of Gran Pulse in the War of Transgression, but they failed to completely destroy Cocoon, only managing to crack the outer surface. Now 300 years later, the people of Gran Pulse plan to attack yet again. Six heroes will step forth. Their friendships intertwined. Only they can save Cocoon..but will they willingly give up their lives in order to save it?

Hikari's ordinary morning routine was the same as ever. Nothing exciting ever happened to her. She sifted through her small backpack of belongings to find some breakfast. A little drop of rainwater fell into the backpack. The cave's ceiling was always damp--a minor setback, but after living alone here for two years, Hikari was used to it. Well, almost alone. Except for that traveler a while back who'd tried to get her to come into populated Cocoon. Colton or something. Kid actually thought he had a chance at changing her mind. Not likely.

Sorry I wasn't on yesterday...I have like three assignments that I have to get in before midnight tonight.

 

Arya went around through the city, keeping a steady walk. Today was Emi's birthday. She knew she would have to get Emi something good. Arya sighed as she continued walking towards the store. She grabbed her gunblade and swung it around a few times. Maybe I'll actually use this someday.. Arya thought as she walked stopped at the door of the store, she put the gunblade away and went into the store. And of course who would be there but Emi. Arya saw Emi wave as she beckoned her over. Emi was talking with Ryker. As Arya walked over she saw Emi smile.

 

"Hey Ryker look! It's Arya." Emi smiled as Arya came over. "Hey! Guess what we were talking about?" Emi asked. Arya shrugged with a small smile, "I don't know. Your birthday party tonight?" Emi grinned, "Nope. Well..sort of. See Ryker and I were talking about how cool it'd be if we could get Hikari to come back for the party!"Arya shook her head, "And you actually think she'll come? It's been two years since she decided to go live in a cave by herself outside of Cocoon..I really doubt she'd come." Emi stuck her tongue out, "Well, whatever! Ryker and I are going to get her to come back. " Arya smiled, "Alright. But don't say I didn't warn you. Anyways, has anyone seen Logan? We were gonna go practice fighting. He hasn't called me back. " Emi shrugged, "Nope, haven't seen him all day. Maybe he's already practicing?" Arya nodded and then waved, "Kay. Well I'll go check. Tell me how your plan goes on getting Hikari back. See ya. "

Ryker paused for a minute. "Well, we probably should have gotten moving earlier. It's going to take a while to get there. After all, she is hiding out in the middle of nowhere." He slipped his military-issue gloves on. "Come on, Emi, we're going to have to hurry if we're getting there on foot."

 

Hikari was cleaning her tiny cave when she heard voices. She stopped dead in her tracks to listen. And to think they'd always made fun of her paranoia about the government. Well here were their spies coming after her. She was sure of it--who else would be out here with her? It wasn't exactly the hottest tourist spot. Hikari scrambled for her only weapon--her staff. Hiding just within the cave, so she couldn't see the spies and they couldn't see her, she called out. "Who are you!?"

Oh and I was thinking Emi and Logan can be siblings if that's alright with you?

 

Emi nodded and smirked, "Race ya!" Even though Emi was eighteen she acted extremely childlike. After many miles of running, Emi glanced back and noticed Ryker was a distance back. She slowed her pace and waited for Ryker. Several minutes later, Ryker caught up with her. "What took you so long?" Emi asked as she quickened her pace from a walk to a brisk jog. "You said so yourself that we had to find her before the party." Finally after jogging for about an hour they arrived near the cave where Hikari was living in. Emi looked around, "Do you think she'll freak out with seeing us? It's been what..two years already?"

 

Logan had been waiting for Arya by the main plaza for about three hours. What's taking her so long? Logan thought as he leaned against a low wall. Logan watched as people ran back and forth from place to place, shopping for loved ones, or visiting the sites. He got up and swung his sword around a bit, trying to entertain himself into Arya got there. Finally after about 20 minutes, he saw Arya come running over. "Sorry I'm late. I didn't know you were already here. You hadn't answered my calls.." Logan took his phone out. "Sorry it died earlier today. I thought you would just have come anyway. So what'd you get for Emi? Her party's tonight right?" He watched as Arya leaned against the wall next to him and then she said, " Well nothing much. Just a necklace. I didn't really have any time to get her some else. What about you?" Logan tousled his hair a bit and making it slightly messier before he said with a smirk. "Cool. Well I want it to be a surprise so you'll see later tonight. But I bet she's going to love it. After all I am her brother. "

Ryker shifted uncomfortably. "Well, I guess it just depends on what mood she's in. You know Hikari, and that could be anything. We should just be careful. Her first question is going to be if we work for the government." He sighed. She still hadn't gotten over that fear yet. Not that it wasn't entirely unwarranted, but still. Not everyone on Cocoon was hiding out in the middle of nowhere because they were afraid.

 

It was cold. That was all Colton was registering. His coat didn't feel like it was doing much to keep out the chill. Where was he going again? Home? Yeah. That way he could wait out this stupid storm. Shivering, he shoved the key into the lock. As he pushed the door open, he noticed a small sheet of lined paper taped to the door. He scanned it quickly. Emi's birthday was today? He glanced out into the freezing plain behind him. "Of all days, Emi," He sighed, heading back out towards the city. He couldn't very well show up without a present, could he?

Emi sighed, "Yeah I know." She looked at the cave and then at Ryker. "Well lets get this over with! Who knows...she might just actually come!" Emi and Ryker both stopped as they heard Hikari voice."Who are you?!" Emi replied "Hikari! It's Emi and Ryker! Your friends, remember?"

 

Arya shook her head smiling. "Whatever you say. Well it's a little late to start practicing now so why don't you just come and help me find a present for Emi? I can't think of anything she would like." "Sure but I'm not buying Emi's present for you. Hmm now what should you get her..." She stared at Logan while he scrunched his eyebrows together thinking. After a while Arya finally broke the silence. "You know if you keep doing that your face is going to stay that way." Logan stopped and made a face at her. "Ha, ha. That was hilarious. You're just jealous because I'm awesome even when my face is all scrunched up." Arya laughed a bit and then said "Okay we need to go now. You can think of something while we're looking because we're wasting time Logan."

 

Logan smiled. He liked seeing Arya laugh, it had been a while. He looked down as he thought, Can't believe it's been already two years since the accident... He looked upwards again and nodded, "Right. Lets go. Don't want to be late for the party." After a while of shopping, Logan sat on one of the chairs in a store. "Can't you just pick something? It's not that hard." Arya shook her head. "Maybe not for you Logan but it is for me..." He watched Arya as she went around still looking. "What have I gotten myself into?" He asked himself as he slumped into the chair.

Hikari nervously kept hidden behind a twist in the cave. "Give me some kind of proof! I know what the government does! I know they play tricks! You could have just recorded their voices and changed what they said. I'm on to you, don't think you can fool me!" Hikari huffed, tightening her grip on her staff. She could beat up a couple of government bullies. They would underestimate her, and she would promptly kick them out.

 

Ryker sighed loudly. He knew this would happen. Hikari would overreact again. "I don't have any way to prove it! Want me to cite all of the past conversations we've had in the last two years? There haven't been that many. Get over you conspiracy theories for just a minute. We want you to come to a party! It's Emi's birthday. You won't regret it. You might even eventually decide to be normal and rejoin society again."

Emi shook her head at Ryker. "Be nicer! It's not her fault she's gotten so worried about the government!" She whispered to him and then walked a bit close to the cave entrance. "Hikari it's us you're friends! Just give a small glance out here and you'll see it's me Emi and Ryker." She waited for a bit then walked a bit close signaling Ryker to follow her. "It's my birthday today Hikari! I'll finally be 18. We've been friends for years before you left two years ago after the accident...Arya, Logan and Colton miss you. We all miss you." Emi said as they got closer to the cave.

Hikari wasn't exactly the trusting type. Voices could be manipulated with all of the fancy new equipment the government had gotten a hold of. Even memories could be altered. So there really wasn't much going for the two who claimed to be Emi and Ryker. Even though it meant giving up her position, Hikari poked her head out slightly, hoping the short, fuzzy mess of blonde on her head wasn't too noticeable. It'd been a few years for sure. They didn't look the same, but Emi and Ryker were at least recognizable. Still, she hesitated. She was just being paranoid. Here was proof before her eyes. Hikari tried to convince herself and, with a sigh, stepped out a little further into the open. "So why are you here? Were you expecting a present? I'm not used to visitors."

 

Ryker smirked slightly. "Well, I can see why. Actually Emi's having a birthday party, and we were hoping you'd get over yourself for a few hours and come. You might actually enjoy yourself a little bit if you try. Presents are expected, but not required. And no weaponry, please," He made a mocking bow. "It's a long walk, so if you plan on rejoining the real world for a bit, then we'd better get moving.

Emi smiled as Hikari came out of the cave slowly. "Yeah! I wanted everyone to come to my birthday party and it wouldn't be the same without you Kari." It's been a while since I've been able to call her Kari... She thought. She jabbed Ryker in the ribs a bit, shaking her head at him. "Okay come on! If we hurry now we can make it back before the party and we can fix you right up Hikari!" Emi said grabbing Hikari's arm and pulling her along. "Arya said we wouldn't have any luck bringing you along but I knew we could get you to come! It's so great to see you again!" She rambled on and on telling Hikari everything that happened in the past two years.

 

Logan looked down at his watch, as they finally after many stores found something for Emi. "It's getting pretty late. Do you think Emi and Ryker got Hikari to come with them?" He looked up at Arya and saw her shrug. "Don't know. But I'll see you later at the party. I gotta go home and get this wrapped. " He tilted his head a bit and mockingly asked, "What you're not gonna let me see what you bought her? After all these hours I've stayed with you while you looked for a present." Arya nodded with a slight smile, "Yep. Now I gotta go...bye." Logan watched her leave and then started to head back to his home. Since Emi probably wasn't home yet it would be his job to make sure the decorators didn't mess anything up. He sighed. Man I hate Emi's birthday parties...They always have to be huge events.

It took every shred of courage she had to walk in the open with two people. Somehow, it just didn't feel normal to Hikari. She took a shaky breath and yanked her arm away from Emi. "What time does this party start? I could try to get you some sort of gift." She knew there was no disguising how disgusted she was by the idea. Maybe disgusted wasn't the right word. Though she didn't want to admit it, Hikari was scared. No else seemed to see the same doomsday for Cocoon she envisioned, but they'd all understand one day. And who would be the paranoid scaredy cat then?

 

"So... um, what would a girl want for her birthday?" Colton asked an attendant shyly. She gave him the oddest look. "Well, it would depend. How old is she?" He was embarrassed to admit he wasn't entirely sure. "Um, seventeen?" His cheeks began to flush. "Get her shoes! All girls love shoes! Or a gift certificate to somewhere she likes." He glanced at her name tag. "Um... thank you... um, Anne." "Don't be so shy, honey! You're welcome!" If Colton's cheeks weren't already burning, they were now a pile of smoldering ash. He wasn't exactly the most outgoing person, and this was mortifying. Lowering his eyes, he grabbed one of the department stores "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" gift cards. Colton had a new goal--be out of here ASAP.

OCC: I'm sooooo sorry about not posting for a couple of days. I'm sicker than a dog and have been trying to catch up on all of my homework... D:

 

 

Emi smile diminished slightly as Hikari yanked her arm away, but quickly smiled again. She knew it would take some time for Hikari to trust them yet alone anyone else. Especially after what happened… I'm surprised I don't trust any people. Emi thought as they kept walking back towards the city. She shook her head at Hikari's question. "No you don't have you get me a gift...Having you come to the party is enough!" She smiled slightly and then continued on, "Well it starts at 8 and its 6 o'clock so we have some time…” She stopped dead in her tracks and gasped, “Oh my gosh! I totally forgot that someone had to supervise the decorators! I’m always forgetting details like that…oh well I’m sure Logan is there.” And they continued on.

 

Arya leaned back into her chair as she finished wrapping Emi’s present. She sighed as she looked at her phone. It was only 6:20. She didn’t have to leave until about 7:40 to get to Emi’s party. Arya didn’t even want to go to the party. Emi’s just turning 18…not a big deal. She thought as she sat up, got out of her chair and walked towards the window. Arya sighed, not wanting to do anything or go anywhere. Today was a horrible reminder about that terrible accident and she did not care to go to a party and act all glad about it. How could the others be so fine with going to a party on a day like this? She thought as she kicked the wall. They act like they don’t even care or remember the accident…

Hikari shifted uncomfortably, and glanced over her shoulder for the millionth time. It seemed... well, almost odd to be walking in the open. And the sunlight had never seemed so bright before. She almost felt like a vampire emerging accidentally into the sunlight. Her damp little cave seemed so comforting and safe. Just walking out here felt dangerous. Maybe it was just because she'd convinced herself for years something would happen, but she couldn't quite calm herself down. "Can we pick up the pace a little? I'd really like to hurry this up."

 

Ryker sighed. "Grow up, it's not a big deal. There aren't any scary monsters out here, unless you're afraid of us." He rolled his eyes sarcastically. Well, theoretically there weren't any. Humans could end up monsters, though, as the government had so kindly proven. "It'll just be a couple of hours." He squinted across the rustic scene ahead. "I can already see the outline of the city. Just relax,"

Emi shook her head at Ryker. Sure, Hikari could be a bit over dramatic but she didn't deserve Ryker's sarcasm. She thought as they kept on walking. "I wonder if this was a good idea.." She asked quietly to herself. Ryker and Hikari weren't really getting along...well they never really got along even when she lived in the city. Emi thought as she heard Ryker talk and looked up towards the direction where the city would be. She didn't have the greatest eye sight but Emi could see the outline of the city barely. Logan was always telling her to get glasses but she couldn't stand them. "Great! We're making good progress. We should be there in about 30 minutes?" She asked Ryker.

 

Logan looked around as the decorators scrambled around trying to get everything done before the party started. "When the heck is Emi getting here!?" Logan asked himself angrily. Emi said she would be back in time for the decorators but obviously she wouldn't. He sat down on one of the chairs in the lawn, looking at his watch from time to time. Logan heard the doorbell ring and sighed, "That better be Emi or I'm going to kill her." He got up and walked towards the door, glancing back to make sure the decorators were still working. Logan opened the door and saw Colton. He sighed, "Well you're definitely not Emi. Well come on in Colton. You're the first person here."

"Thirty minutes?" Ryker chuckled. "Take into account wind resistance, the terrain ahead, human error and we've got at least another hour. Things always appear closer than they are in reality. My military land navigation unit was five weeks long; just trust me on this one." He felt slightly proud. Land navigation, nature, and maps were at least something he understood, even if the rest of the world made no sense. He'd always have that, at least, Ryker assured himself. And that's how it always ended up for him. Ryker sighed internally. He was the only person who could truly count on.

 

Hikari stamped her foot in frustration, but quickly regretted it. It might leave a traceable footprint. She smudged it out with the heel of her boot before she kept walking. "I can't believe it's another hour. I haven't been out this much in my entire life." Her voice was barely a whisper. She hated being so suspicious, but you never knew who could be listening. The grass here was fairly tall. Someone could be hiding... She shook her head, trying to banish those thoughts. At least Ryker and Emi were here. As much as she didn't want to admit it, it was sort of comforting to have them here.

 

Colton tugged his collar shyly. "Oh, am I too early? Er, Logan, if I am I could just go home and come back. I don't want to intrude or anything." Colton fought the urge to sigh in exasperation. All he'd had to do was wait another few minutes and show up on time and he wouldn't have to feel this way. People may say to fight your fears, but Colton felt it was easier just to accomodate his shyness rather than bother trying to correct himself. Personalities couldn't be altered, could they? "I just--well, if you're not done--" Colton stammered nervously.

Logan shook his head tiredly, "Nah, man it's fine. I'm just mad because Emi and Ryker should have gotten back with Hikari by now." He led Colton into the backyard as the decorators kept on working. "They should be done pretty soon." Logan sighed out loud looking down at his watch. "I hate Emi's parties...always way over the top." Logan said to Colton as he slumped into a chair. Seeing that Colton wasn't sitting down he gave a small smile, "You can sit down too you know. " Maybe I was being too mean earlier? Colton has always been known as the shy kid. "So..." Logan awkwardly started, "How's it going?"

 

Emi tried to make out the blurriness that her eyes were making but she couldn't do it. "Maybe Logan was right about me getting glasses. It doesn't look that far to me. But like you said, Ryker, you're the expert." She smiled at him and kept on walking. "So Hikari are you excited to get to see every once we get back to the city?" She asked, after 10 minutes or so of silence between the three of them.

 

Arya looked around as she walked towards the street where Emi and Logan's house was. It had been about a couple of months since she had been there. "It probably looks completely different." She muttered with a small smile. Emi was always the one to never keep anything the same for very long which drove Logan crazy. Out of the six of the friends, she had always been the closest to Emi and Logan. She walked up towards the door and rang the doorbell. She looked around the front yard waiting. After a minute or two she finally heard a voice, "Hey! You're early. " She looked up and saw Logan with a grin on his face. "Hey. Yeah, I thought I'd help out since obviously the birthday girl hasn't arrived yet." Arya smiled and walked in. "How'd you know Emi wasn't here?" Logan asked, leading her out to the backyard. She shrugged, "You just look really stressed." Arya saw Colton sitting shyly in one of the chairs. She and Logan went over to him. "Hey Colton! It's been awhile" Arya said with a smile.

Hikari almost laughed. Excited to get back to the city? In what dimension would she of all people be excited to be in a city? Or talk to people... or see people... Hikari shook her head to herself. "No, I wish I was back home. My home, not your government-influenced community pool-style city. Who would ever want to live there? I don't know how you stand it. I don't even know how I stood it as long as I did. The whole system is corrupt. And they've got spies. They've got spies everywhere. Anyone could be a spy. Even your best friend. Even you," Hikari was beginning to rant, and was scaring the wits out of herself at the same time. "They'll use anyone! They're blackmail you or they'll bribe you! Anyone! Don't underestimate them!" Her voice was raising to a yell. "Just move faster. Let's get this over with."

 

Ryker sighed angrily. She was officially insane. Maybe what Hikari said was true. But not everyone who believed the government was corrupt became a recluse. He waved his hand nonchalantly, trying to control his temper. "It's no big deal, Hikari. Trust me, the government may be nuts, but it's not after you. No one's spying on you, or even on me or Emi. In this case, everything is exactly as it appears. There's no one but us out here. Just don't get so worked up over nothing."

 

"Hi, Arya," Colton blushed slightly, still embarrassed. "Um, yeah, yeah, a really long time." He agreed absently. "Uh, do you know if anyone else is coming. Um, I--I mean, obviously Emi is, but--but, um..." Colton trailed off, unsure of how to finish. He was sure Arya and Logan had to be laughing at him mentally, stuttering and tripping over everything he said. Maybe it was just better if he stayed quiet.

Sorry I didn't reply. I have two honors papers I have to get done by Sunday. So I was pretty busy this week.

 

Logan gave a small smile at Colton. That kid brought shyness to a brand new level. “Not sure. I know Ryker went with Emi, so he’ll obviously be here. And if they were able to drag Hikari with them then she’ll be here.” He paused as the decorators finished everything. He took out his wallet and paid them. “Sorry about that. At least they’re done now. Anyways, Emi invited some neighbors...but other than that there won’t be many people. “ Logan looked at Arya and tousled his hair a bit before asking, “So…excited to see Hikari again if they actually got her to come along?”

 

Arya smiled at Colton. “Yeah, you’re right it has been a long time. How’s life?” She knew how shy Colton could get so she tried to be as nice as possible to him. Colton was the only one out of their tight circle of friends that Arya had never yelled at. After listening to Logan, she didn’t answer for quite some time. She shrugged and looked around “No. I’d be extremely surprised if they were able to get her even a step out of her stupid little cave…” Arya was still extremely angry at Hikari from the accident. She didn’t care if Hikari felt sorry. It was all her fault and Arya would not change her mind about that.

 

Emi tried to hide the tears flowing from her eyes. That’s the loudest I’ve ever heard Hikari yell at us.

Walking straight, so the other two wouldn’t see her crying, she said “Right…Just a little bit longer till we’re there. Come on, let’s hurry up. “ Emi deeply disappointed quickened her pace.

Ryker noticed Emi's struggle to hold back tears, her face reddening. "Hey, don't worry, Emi. It'll be okay. Hikari will come to her senses eventually. She'll get over it, and maybe even come back after realizing how fun it is to actually talk to real people." He soothed, and glanced back at Hikari. She was a few paces back, using Ryker and Emi as a sort of shield so nothing ahead could catch sight of her. Ryker sighed and shook his head. This wasn't turning out exactly as he'd planned. "Well, we're almost there, anyway."

 

Colton was glad he didn't have laser vision. If he did, there would be holes burned into the carpet. He was a little too nervous to look up, but forced himself to meet Arya's gaze. "Um, okay. I--I hope she comes. It's been a, um, really long time. Y-Years. It'll be... be good to have everyone back together again." Colton dropped his eyes again.

Arya grunted, "Yeah...maybe." After several extremely long minutes of silence, Logan spoke. "Well, I think it'll be good for all of us to be together again. For Emi's sake at least. " He looked at Arya and she nodded. "Sure I guess." Great... He thought, She's going into silence mode. "What's taking Emi and them so long?"

 

Emi looked straight at Ryker. "Do you really believe that? Maybe this wasn't such a great idea after all..." She wiped her tears away and keep walking. Maybe Ryker's right... She'll come to her senses eventually...right?

(I'm skipping to where they finally get to the house.)

Finally, Emi, Ryker and Hikari reached the house. "So we're finally here! We'll go through the side door so we can fix you right up Hikari!" She said with a warm smile. Hikari bit her lip. 'fix'? As in, make-up, and fancy clothes and hairstyles? She cringed at the thought. Gorgeous as it might seem, she'd be easier to track all dressed up.
