I think the world would be a lot more miserable to be honest. Imagine starting your day and engaging in a conversation, starting with how is your day going? Instead of the expected fine everyone's supposed to say, there might be a miserable. People would never be able tom compliment one another unless they meant it so that means a whole lot less flattery. People wouldn't be able to be as nice to each other. On the plus side, it would be extremely easy to catch criminals, there would be no need for lawyers, courts. Instead, there would be simple justification. There would also be a totally honest jury leading to justifications for actions. Also, if you said something nice, you would actually mean it and wouldn't doubt about it being flattery.

The truth can hurt.

Can you imagine telling a little kid that their parent was ripped to pieces in a bloody car wreck and that they’d never see them again?

Or that Daddy backed out of the driveway onto the family dog?

Lies are needed.

On a separate note; wouldn’t truth telling ruin politics?

Untrue. You can say the true with out being blunt or hurtful. Also, just cause someone speaks the truth does not mean that they will say everything on there mind.

Example: A lady wants to know how she looks in a dress. Her husband thinks that the dress makes her look like a walking potted plant. What does he say. Simple. "I don't think that dress works for you" or "That does not flatter you."

There are ways to be diplomatic without lying.

Then she asks, “DOES IT MAKE ME LOOK FAT?”

Then her husband beats around the bush again.

Then she flips out on him and tells him to tell the truth.

So he tells her she looks fat.

Next week, they are in divorce court.

I wouldn't be able to survive 2 seconds in that world.

Lies are needed sometimes. Small ones, not huge drama, hurt filled lies.

Like, I tried being honest once. Mom asked me if she thought the jeans she was wearing mad her look fat. I said yes. Worst mistake ever >_<

Or he says that it does, simply and politely. If the marriage has any sort of hope, the wife will forgive the remark and try a new dress.

Dude, I can't lie. I have Asperger's Syndrome which a milder version of autism. The truth should be told but sometimes it can hurt. Sometimes you should protect the ones you love. Only at those times do I believe you should be able to lie. Even if, I myself, can't do it.

But the truth can also be a wonderful thing. It's random but I always give people completely genuine compliments. An example would be, "Your hair looks really pretty in a ponytail. You should wear it like that every day." I say it because it's the truth and don't regret saying a word of it or saying it aloud.

It can always be balanced out between harshness and sincerity. I suppose it will always stay that way.

Not sure. But I have a feeling my life would be much more miserable if everyone told me what they honestly think of me at any given time. In some cases, I think lying may be able to help. For example:

Well, even though everyone always says that you should always tell the truth, there's another rule in life as well:

The truth hurts.

Some things are just better left unsaid, and even if people don't appreciate being lied to, there's times where it might be nececarry to avoid hurting someone you care about.

At least that's what I think.
