KH2 Why was Axel so "weak" in KH2?

In KH2 when you fought with Axel as Sora he would constantly be catching his breath you know? I'm guessing it's because of the final fight between him and roxas but I'm pretty sure I remember him taking breaks when Roxas and Axel first fight during the struggle competition. Only problem is i can't play KH2 to check and all the videos I find on youtube the guy doesn't give Axel a break and beats him quickly. So if he's fine until that battle against Roxas then this is basically a waist of a thread haha, but if he's always taking those breaks then why?

sora never fights alex in kh2 only roxas does the time you see alex fighting in betix and between hes fighting along sora and the only reason he is so tired is because thats were siax put him after what happened in hollow bastion that was the maxion punishment having to fight none stop nobodys in that place

Sora didn't fight Axel in Kingdom Hearts 2. And I'm not sure what you're talking about catching his breath. I remember him doing it after Roxas beat him at the start of KH2 and that's because- one he wasn't using his full strength. -Two, Roxas is very strong at this point and the game uses it, as an excuse to how weak Axel is compared to Roxas, with the small amount of HP and attack and such.

i think he means in that fight before he actually DIES. Well, that's because he was not only hit by a dusk, which in cutscenes means nearly fatally damaged, but also, in the novels, he had had a fight with Saïx and had been damaged on the chest.

I worded it wrong. I meant fight with Axel as in teaming up with him. It's the fight against the nobodies right before you get to the world that never was(I think...again its been a long time since I played it). Anyway when I said he's "catching his breath" I mean for most of the fight he's on one knee not doin much

Hmmmm, well Sora doesn't fight Axel in Kingdom Hearts 2.. I'm not exactly sure what it is you're talking about. But Axel is definatley not weak. He is most certainly stronger then Saix and can probably take out everyone in Organization XIII except for Xemnas Xaldin and Xigbar (probably Roxas too).

Actually, you CAN fight Axel in Final Mix, but it's just a powered up version of Roxas' fight.

Its one of the moves he does. When you team up with him, he's doing the same motions as if he were a boss, kinda like when the old Pete would help you fight the current Pete in Timeless River. He ducks down for a second before rushing behind the enemy and attacking with fire

tutti frutti. I always thought that it was from fighting that army of dusks in betwix and between. He did seem to be in there for a while fighting them by the time Sora and co. walked in. For the manga, I don't really consider them canon with the series since there are some points in the manga that would really fit with the video games series. (though just my opinion.) I don't really consider Axel weak since he did go through two fights with Sora, another two with Roxas, and then facing that Army of Dusks. Even if he did go down in KH2, he definitely went down swinging. I find Axel one of the stronger members of Org. XIII

that's because your roxas is still lvl 1 and you'll totally get smashed and ashed when axel is already like marluxia dude. but for me, roxas is the weakest member of the organization(even if i like roxas).

actually i thought axel was pretty powerful. he beats xion when she was being boss and absorbing all of roxas.

 

but anyways, the specific scene you are refering you, i agree with others here. he was kinda dying so yea. and he still went out with a bang lol

That last fight with Axel as your partner, huh? Pretty simple to me actually. As previously stated, in the manga, he had just gotten into it with Sai'x.

 

Reasons as to why this is important:

• in KHII:FM, a cutscene is shown concerning Axel's death, and Sai'x bluntly puts out his opinioin of it. It shows that the fight was extremely symbolic.
• Axel has developed feelings, as we all know. It's a theory that he refused to fully fight his former childhood best friend because of the memories they shared. He chose to hold back. I believe it, because Axel IS stubborn.
• After the fight, he WAS left wounded

Anyways, the actual battle taking place in Betwixt and Between. Axel was hurt, this is true. But there were some times, if you notice, that he stood down on purpose. After the battle is over, that sad sad cutscene takes place. With all that energy, there's no way Axel could have been so weak during the battle. Weakened yeah, but not drastically I believe.

 

Also take into note that Roxas is fused inside of Sora at this point. Axel is fully aware of this. One last fight. He wants to see his best friend in action, to be a hero because he KNOWS now that Roxas has his memories. So he stands down, pretends to be more wounded that he actually is, and watches him in action.

 

Finally, the Final Mix cutscene during/after Axel's fade into darkness. They're talking on the clock tower, perfectly normal. It could just be that Axel's in peace finally, coming into acceptance of his sacrifice. But he's lively. Just one more thing to take into account.

 

 

Aaaaaanyways, i'm done rambling. Axel's my favorite, so yeah.
