How much of this series do you think was planned from the beginning?

If you think about it basically everything in this series ties into itself at some point or another. My favorite example revolve around Ven and Sora. First being the creation of Roxas. For any who doesn't know, Roxas is Sora's nobody and he was created when Sora released the hearts within him. One of those hearts belonged to Ventus so that gave Roxas Ven's appearance, Ven's heart, and the ability to weild two keyblade(one because of Sora, the other because of Ven). So the fact that this connection can be seen through those three major games, and maybe in some of the side games, has to mean that this has been planned since the beginning right? There are many more that link game to game, like Xigbar constantly mocking Sora, saying how "he"(Ven) used to give him the same look, or Xemnas being in KH Final Mix then being a main antagonist in KH2. There are ALOT others so just gets you wondering how much was planned from the beginning.

A lot of it, I'd say. I mean, that's why so many things were left unanswered in the first Kingdom Hearts games. It's just that complex, and is really a big contribution as to why it has so many fans. I think, anyway.

The main points of the series. Heartless. Darkness. Nobodies. Organization XIII, those were all probably thought of by the time KH1 was released. So, the creators had probably planned for Roxas and Namine messing up with Sora's memories. The BBS characters were definitely thought about before KH2, as they're is so many references to them in that game. Probably at this point, I don't know how much thought they gave to the whole Xion thing, but they must have had some idea, before they started KH2. Coded was probably thought of, in detail at least, after KH2.

It's very easy to fill in parts of the story such as why Sora can weild a keyblade. BBS was thought up during KH2, which has been stated and which is why Xigbar said what he said. Look at the Ansem reports. Clearly, Nomura had things in mind for a backstory. Also, what does Xemnas have to do with appearing in KH FM? He appeared in it because there was going to be a KH2, which is why he appeared in KH FM and not in KH1.

i honestly dont think they had any of it planned. Nomura is making it up as he goes along lol which is why there are so many continuity errors. either way, planned or not, errors or not, great series and ill love it till i die.

I would have to say it was planned in KH1 but they just go as ideas arise, for instense, we kn ow Xemnas appeared in FM because he wanted to test Sora's power. As for the whole BBS, that was not intirly planned, when it came down to it, Xigbar could have been refurring to Ventus or Roxas when he said "hahaha, thats right, he used to give me that same exact look". As for some of the characters such as Luxord, Demyx, Xion, Vanitas and Lexeaus... they were not intirly planned for the simple fact that Xion felt as though she was randomly put in the story. Luxord and Demyx had the lease screen time as well as unexplanned backrounds. Luxord's communication was mainly started when they started KH2FM and 358/2 Days. as for Lexeaus, he was the most undeveloped member of Organization 13, personality wise. we dont really know much about him other then he considers Zexion like his master and as a human he worked as a bodyguard for Ansem the wise. At the beginning of the fan artr fot BBS, it seemed as though Vanitas was gonna be like Riku. But he wound up being the dark side of Ventus... no offense to fans of the dark but Vanitas and Ansem the Seeker of Darkness seemed like generic villians to me. for the simple fact that i did not feel as though Vantas was so big of a threat... (just my opinion) and Ansem... well from the very begining the game was focused on Maleficent and he just radomly started to appear saying that he is supreme and stuff. However i cannot fully say the Ansem is genaric because in 358/2 days as well as BBS to a certain extent Ansem/Xehanort hnad alot of character development. As for the whole Xehanort thing, it seemed as though they had that planned for awhile, now we know that t was Master Xehanort who planned all this, and when his knowledge faded away and he got aminsia within Terra's body, we know that he left Braig with the blueprints of his plan about the heartless. another thing that i am questioned about, is what did Braig even want... because he said "Im just making sure you hold up your end of the bargin"... i am still interested tom know about what he ment by that

 

In so many words they gamble with this game, and it just happens to work.

It as mostly planned, they kinda changed some things in the last minute in some games, like the reason Roxas left the organization. In Days, they make it clear it's because of Xion, but in other games they say it's because of Sora, even KH1 has the "Where's Sora?" Thing.

I do love the things that were not planned as well, but I think Nomura did an excellent job connecting the pieces.

Practically nothing was thought of for KH1, since there was a very good chance that the game would be a one-shot (Disney seemed to really hate it) after KH2, when Square knew there were here to stay, I'm sure a lot more was thought up, though keep in mind that these were only general ideas, consider how much has been changed in new KH games, especially BBS.

For that matter, I'm sure there were some mutterings around the office when KH1 was being made about what they might have in a sequel (Which is probably why they included a secret ending) but they themselves probably had no idea how it would unfold.

They made KH1, released it, it was a success and then they began to make plans for other games.

That's most likely just two random Organization members. Xion, nor the idea of KH 358/2 days existed during KH2 development (Maybe the end of it).

In an interview I read Xion's appearance was created during the development of 358/2 Days, so she could have been in other games un-hooded before that.

The other two enemies were meant to be heartless and other, not heartless and unversed. Take jafar for example, was he an enemy and still not a heartless, yes he was. Also in this case, it should have to be proved, not disproved, and the mere phrase "the third enemy" doesn't cut it.

It did and from there CoM and KH2 were planned, and as those were being made, ideas for even more additions to the story popped up, so they added hints in these games should they remain profitable and allow for more sequels. CoM was never meant to be. They only made it because kids wanted a KH game for the GBA.

Now that I think about it, it would have been kinda cool if in KH2 there were memories from CoM, and Sora woke up in the pod with no context, but discovered why in a later game.
