Zack slashed through more of the manikins and breathed, he kicked at one, and then sliced through another, they were doing well, he saw Vicente.

'that snake...' he thought to himself.

-meanwhile-

Genesis landed and hti the ground.

"Exdeath was planning to destroy it." he said, tossing it to Cid, who smiled meticulously.

"Something on your mind? doc?" he asked.

{Dr Cid}

"Always." He answers Genesis as he inspects the new orb.

"Excellent." Cid says as pockets the orb. "Good work keeping that idiot from destroying it."

Dr Cid pulls out a note book and makes some writing in it.

"We have three." He states, aloud. "My research shows little answer to how many pieces there are, but does suggest the more one has, the easier it is to find the other pieces."

He puts his books away.

"Now, Genesis. Tell me where we might find this 'Gift of the Goddess.'"

Genesis sighed.

"I searched for a good portion of my life, at one point I thought it to be a large mound of materia in Banora." he said, Cid nodded.

"However, there are various interpretations of the gift, one perhaps would be the ULTMA." he said, Cid nodded.

"Exdeath said Ultima would be created when all the pieces were brought together, the only problem is how many pieces exist." he said sighing. Cid agreed.

"However, considering Chaos had a piece, wouldn't Cosmos the 'goddess' have a sphere as well?" he asked, Cid and Gabranth nodded.

"and if all these fools are here, that should mean they left they're goddess unguarded." he said.

-meanwhile-

Zack and the others finally finished the last Manikion, he sighe,d breathing, he then looked to Lightning.

"You seem... different." he said.

'Different.' Lightning thought. Should she tell them about Chaos? No. That kind of thing was best left unsaid.

 

"It's nothing." Was all she offered Zack, Paradigm Shifting back to Commando. With a sweep of her heavy blade, Ruin washed across the manakins. "I've... found a new source of ower, that's all." It wasn't a complete lie. Between Chaos and Orphan's Ultima, she was running on new steam. She just hoped no one would be able to tell. Hope...

 

"Where are Serah and Hope?!" Lightning shouted over the batle, scanning the field between attacks. There was still too much going on. That was it. No more games. She reached for Odin's crystal, unsure of where to find it. She wasn't wearing her jacket anymore. "You can't be serious! Odin!" The ground around her glowed pink, the summoning circles surrounding her. Odin crashed through, landing among the Manakins. It seemmed... bigger, and faster. The Eidolon's Zantetsuken sliced through the living crystal as though it were air. Could this be from Ultima?

 

Now was the time. Claire drove her blade through a manakin, smashing another with her shield. She cut her way through the battle, screaming her sister's name.

Balthier closes on Lightning as she summons Odin. He promptly stops in his tracts.

"Impressive." He whistles.

He hears Lightning scream for her sister.

"Lightning!" Balthier yells to the L'Cie.

He jabs a finger toward his former sniper position.

"Serah is over there."

Balthier brings his rifle up and blasts the manikins around Lightning giving her a chance to break through to her sister.

{Dr Cid}

Cid smiles.

"You have a devious mind, Genesis." He complements.

He looks down at the battle below.

"They should be busy for a little while."

He clears his throat.

"Venat!" He calls for his friend.

Venat appears before the three warrior's of Chaos.

"Yes?" It asks.

"We are going for Cosmos's piece of Ultima."

The Occurian says nothing as it opens a portal.

Dr Cid looks at his companions.

"Shall we, gentlemen?"

Genesis nodded.

"Of course, doctor." he said, they were about to walk through the portal, then he stopped.

"I suppose we leave Ms. farron here with the orb to distract the others while we're gone?" he asked. leaving lightning there might not be such hot idea.

Zack slashed tyhrough another Manikin.

'How many of these things are there?' he thought in his mind, he slashed through another one, he then looked to lightning, she had an orb.

What had Balthier said? Something about Serah...

 

She followed the man's finger visually, looking to the other side of the skirmish. Was she really there? The l'Cie brought a hand up, Odin leaping from its position to its master. "Come on!" The Eidolon nodded, twisting into its Gestalt form. Lightning jumped upon the steed, drawing the Zantetsuken from the ground. "The storm is here!" Electricity crackled as she flew through the battle, Slepnir trampling manakins underfoot.

 

Her blade made quick work of her foes, the Eidolon rearing up as it encountered a large manakin: a Fleeting Primarch. The manakin flashed brightly, taking on the form of Barthandelus' fal'Cie persona. The crystal faceplate opened, cannons charging. Lightning spun the dual blade, slicing upward. "Crushing Blow!" The manakin split in two, the cannons firing blindly into the crowd. Slepnir charged forward, shattering the Primarch's remains as Lightning sped toward her sister.

{Dr Cid}

Cid nods.

"I agree." He tells Genesis. "I doubt she has the stomach for this work."

Dr Cid steps through the portal into Cosmos's sanctuary.

"Impressive." Dr Cid notes when he is through.

{Balthier}

Balthier stops a moment to catch his breath. That quickening he had done took more out of him then he had thought.

To me, my warriors.

Balthier starts and looks around. He knew that voice.

"Cosmos?" He says, aloud.

Danger.

Did the others hear this? Maybe not, they were concentrating on the battle. Balthier looks to see a portal forming in the field. Balthier dashes for it and jumps through.

Johnny and Vicente's duel took them around the battlefield. They destroyed manikin after manikin while trying to get an upperhand on the other. Eventually, Johnny decided to take risk. He raised his Keyblade up and shouted, "Thunder!" Lightning bolts rained down on Vicente, but they stopped before they could hit him. Vicente reached intohis pockets and revealed the fused nethicite. The shards of the manufacted nethicite had been bound to the deifacted nethcite, allowing Vicente free channel of magic. Vicente aimed the shard at Johnny and unleashed the barrage back at him. Johnny was flung across the battlefield, right where Serah and Jaina were. He looked over at his allies, still dealing with manikins. Balthier had just run through a portal of some kind, then a voice rang out in Johnny's head.

To me, my warriors.

Johnny got back on his feet and prepared again to battle Vicente, "Sorry, Cosmos, but I've gotta beat this guy first." He charged Vicente, and tried to grab the crystal. Vicente backed away in time to avoid the grasp and unleashed time magic on Johnny. He now stood completely frozen in place. Vicente looked over to Johnny's allies, prepared to steal some of their power as well.

Jaina, now almost completely healed, got up and tried to reverse the Stop spell that had frozen Johnny. She was almost out of healing spells whn she remembered Johnny's Inifinity Cube. She pulled it out of his pocket and brought out a Cronos Tear. She gave it to Johnny, who started to move again.

"Oh, he does not get away with that," Johnny said as he rushed toward Vicente, who was about to use the nethicite on Lightning, who was running towards them.

Slepnir thundered through the crowd, a figure coming into sight in the distance. It was-

 

"Serah!" Lighnting shouted. The figure turned to look in her direction before a blinding light flashed before Lightning.

 

To me, my warriors.

 

A portal opened, the l'Cie flying through. The Eidolon toppled end over end as it entered Sanctuary, shattering into pink crystal. Lightning rolled across the thin water, her armor clanking and bashing into her body before she came to a halt. Battered, she pulled herself up to her feet, looking around. Cosmos' throne? Why was she here? Was that really Serah she saw before?

 

Lightning turned her head, trying to find any clue as to the reason for her arrival when she saw not only Balthier exiting another portal, but Cid strolling through the opal spires. Not good. She was technically playing for both sides.

 

She stood directly between the two Bunansas, unsure of which one to call to.

Zack looekd at the portal, then sighed, he followe dBalthier into it.

-meanwhile-

Genesis got through the portal and re-appeared int he sanctuary, Cosmos sat there, she stared at him.

(hm, is this the first cycle in thsi new war? because I have an idea if it isn't)

"Cosmos, give us the piece of Ultima you possess." he demanded, Cid stood right besie him. she sighed.

"Genesis..." she said. he raised an eyebrow.

'she know's my name?' he thought in his mind. he summoned his sword.

Serah had another dream.

 

In it, Lightning stood at two crossroads. One, teeming with powerful darkness. The other, shining with blinding light.

 

Serah ran up to her sister, but could not touch her, as if she was a ghost. Serah reached into her pocket, and pulled out Snow's tear. She placed it in Lightning's hands, and surprisingly, it stayed. Serah heard her beloved's voice.

 

Come on, Sis, don't you want to be a hero?

 

Serah's dream faded away, into a black sleep, as her body landed on the wet ground.

Hope and Joe were almost swarmed. Joe fell to a knee behind Hope. Hope started to glow brightly.

 

"It's now or never," he said. One suicidal attack could save them all, except for him.

 

To me, my warriors.

 

Magical sparks floated all around Hope. Just before the magic reached a climax and Hope was reaching his breaking point, a flash of light absorbed Hope. He felt himself hurtled through darkness and across the world, magic abandoning him.

 

In another flash of light, Hope hit the ground with a thud. He was lying in a puddle, but wasn't wet. He jumped to his feet. His first sight was Bathlier. Hope readied for encounter, but then he saw Serah lying next to Bathlier.

Lightning felt something smooth appear in her hands.

Vicente stopped dead in his tracks. 'Wasn't she just there?' Was there something he couldn't see? Where did she...

Johnny tackled Vicente, ending up going through the portal that Lightning had gone through. They both looked up after going though and saw Lightning, Balthier, Cid, Genesis and Gabranth standing near Cosmos. Over in the distance was Hope and a figure he hadn't seen before.

'What the heck?' Johnny thought as he saw Serah fall from the sky. he then got up and asked Cosmos, "What's going on here?"

Jaina ran through the portal and looked at everyone there already, "Quite the party here, ain't it?"

joe looked at hope as he glowed "hope what are you" the light then engulft them both when the light faded joe looked around "hum what were who whered we go" joe asked unshore looking to hope joe then saw to people then seeing the girl on the floor joe was about to run and see if she okay when hope stopped him joe then noticed the other person "friend or foe" joe asked hope

Torn between warring factions, Lightning suddenly realized an object had appeared in her hand. She slowly opened her fingers, inhaling as she saw the crystal tear. Snow's tear. How had she obtained it? It wasn't there a second ago...

 

Her attention was once again torn away as more portals opened. Zack fell through one, two boys through another, and the last one spit out-

 

"Serah!" Claire broke into a run, throwing herself to the ground. She slid across the ground on armored knees, water splashing as she pulled her sister up into her arms. "Serah! Come on, wake up!" She looked to the crystal in her hand. This couldn't be a coincidence. She looked around for anyone else, eyeing the two mystery boys who had arrived earlier. One was about to come for Serah before he was stopped by the other. He was so... familiar.

 

"You!" Lightning shouted. The boy who stopped the other knew she was talking to him. "Are you one of the people from my memories? Are you..." She fished through her mind, grasping for anything from her world. "Sazh?"

Hope realized with a shock that they other warriors of Cosmos mustn't recognize him. He had grown a bit and matured, so his voice had change a bit too. Maybe he could use this.

 

"Sazh? No," he replied. He couldn't use a name she knew; if she remembered, then it'd be over. He looked into his hidden memories for a name."

 

"Noel, Noel Kriess."

 

That name seemed right. He didn't think Lightning knew a Noel, but he was a little stunned to hear how that name seemed to bring back memories of Pulse.

 

He walked forward and bent over Serah. "CURAJA!" he said, and beams of green light extended from his hand into the girl's body.

 

Serah seemed to stir.

 

"She's okay, I think that she's just tired," Hope (a.k.a Noel) replied.

 

He looked to Bathlier to confirm this.

 

Hope had been counting on two risky moves.

1. Bathlier and Zack and Johnny wouldn't recognize him.

2. Joe wouldn't slip and reveal his true identity.

Johnny looked around at all the warriors who had just been warped here. His eyes fell on Hope, who seemed like he didn't need any trouble. 'I'll let him off the hook this once.' It then snapped in his head. Vicente can now absorb magical powers and Johnny just brought him to the ultimate source of magic: Cosmos.

Vicente pulled out the nethicite and slowly walked over to Cosmos.

"My dear goddess, I've been dying to finally meet you..."

joe looks at hope thinking for a minute "hum he must be trying to hid from the choas guys better keep the name calling down here" joe then looks to serah and then hope "hey a Noel whats going on" joe then thinks when he says noels name "i know someone with that name but who dam memorys still a little fuzzy"

Hope was sure glad that Joe had kept with him. He'd have to explain when they got a chance. Joe already knew that he was a warrior of Chaos, but he had seemed to be fine with Hope's goal of protecting his friends.

 

Serah's body began convulsing wildly.

 

"Here we go, kupo," Mog said as it turned into the bow.

 

Serah lept into action. Out of Lightning's hands she jumped and grabbed the bow. Before she even hit the ground, she had launched three arrows at Vicente before anybody else (but Johnny) had noticed.

 

"COSMOS, look out!" she cried.

 

The shout roused Hope into action. Jumping back, he Paradigm shifted into Synergist and set to buffing the warriors of Cosmos. Something felt strange about Lightning though.

OOC: Honestly, I had to look Noel up. I wasn't impressed enough by him to remember him!

 

"Noel?" The boy reminded her of someone else, so much. But the name didn't seem to stick. Had she met a Noel before? It didn't matter. "Serah!" She pulled her sister closer, looking back up to the boy. "I don't remember you... but thank you. I could never repay this."

 

Suddenly, Serah had burst to life, firing a bow at Vicente. Noel jumped into action, casting a variety of spells on the Cosmos warriors. Lightning looked to the side, noticing Chaos' advanceo n the goddess.

 

She sumoned the sword and shield, dashing to the group at the throne. She threw herself between the two parties, slashing her sword down for Vicente's hand. She narrowly missed, water splashing up as the nethicite fell to the ground. Gabranth, Vicente, Cid, and Genesis. 'Four for them.' She couldn't turn to see the Cosmos warriors behind her, but knew they outnumbered their foes.

 

"I'm sorry, Cid, but I won't let you get to Cosmos." A memory flashed through mind of a man clad in blue armor standing before the goddess, making a similar declaration. A previous war? That's right. She had been in one before.

Vicente raised the stone to the arrows. Somehow, Vicente's modifications to the stone allowed him to absorb weapons as well. Vicente then shot the arrows straight back at Serah.

"Foolish child," Vicente laughed at Serah. He then aimed the stone at Hope and began to steal the buffing spells as he casted them. Suddenly, Lightning knocked the stone from his hands. Vicente looked up at her with disgust as she told Cid that she wouldn't let anyone near Cosmos. "Big mistake, girl," Vicente said as he kicked Lightning in the chest, grabbing the stone as well. "I hold the power of the gods in my hands, I will bow to no mortal!" His attention turned once more to Cosmos, "Now, my dear, be a good goddess and get in the stone..."

Gabranth could not believe his eyes. Vicente had managed to collect two pieces of nethicite and merge their powers into one. A superconducter of magic. He raised his sword and looked to Johnny. Johnny nodded in return. Vicente had to be stopped.

Balthier glares at Cid.

"What are doing here?" He asks in an ivy tone.

Dr Cid sighs.

"I am moving ahead with our plan." Cid answers.

Balthier arches an eye brow.

"How?" He asks.

"By taking her piece of Ultima."

"Pointless if we are giving the other pieces to Cosmos."

Balthier's eyes narrow.

"Unless that was never the plan in the first place."

Cid nods.

"Help her beat Chaos, yes. Let her continue to rule, no. Mankind must control it's own fate."

Cid looks at Cosmos.

"You are obsolete." Cid mocks.

Cid holds out a hand.

"Give me your piece of Ultima." He commands.

Balthier steps between Cosmos and Cid, leveling his gun at Cid.

"No." He says firmly.

Zack stood beside Balthier. Genesis grimaced looking at lightning.

'Damn, she has a piece.' he thought to himself. he stepped towards lightning.

"Give up, farron, you can't win." he said, she spat towards him, his sword dissipeared, cosmos sighed.

'You never change.' her voice said in his head, he shook and then looked at lightning.

"Fine then." he said, he summoned his sword.

"cid, I'll handle the infidel." he said. Zack looekd at Genesis then held his sword towards Gabranth.
