Serah had been walking when she felt a searing pain on her arm.

 

"AHH!" she screamed, as her l'cie mark shone brightly.

 

Her companions were in shock as the girl fell to her knees in pain. Her body writhed in pain as she kept screaming. All around heard a voice shout out

 

Become Ragnarok! Destroy Cocoon, and free us from our earthly prison!

Serah screamed louder as her Mark glowed brighter. Now her whole body was shining.

 

"Help, me!" she shouted.

 

The boys were too stunned to move, but Mog flew foward and smashed Serah over the head with his Mog Clock staff. Serah fell unconcious, while her body's glow began to fade.

Hope scanned Joe. He didn't seem like a threat, and was friendly enough although he had told him that he was an enemy. He'd try trusting him.

 

"This world, World B, is the battleground for the gods of Discord and Harmony. They have summoned both different warriors and different worlds to come to their aid. Their warriors' minds are wiped each cycle and they cannot remember much about the worlds they came from. As they fight, they regain memories."

 

Suddenly a Manakin of WoL appeared. Hope chucked Nue at it, shattering it to crystal.

 

"Oh, and Manakins are crystaline imitations of warriors that fight for Chaos they fall easily solo, but are troublesome in numbers. I don't care about the war. My goal is to find the two girls from my world, Lightning and Serah, and protect them. If i find Ultima along the way, I'll destroy it."

joe thinks about what hope said "memorys erased i guess that didnt work to well on me then i remember almost everything of were i'm from alone a few of my memorys are hazy" hope looks at joe surprised "i remember i'm from a world called cocoon and i spent a few years on the world below us gran pulse it was there were i was made a l'cie then after about a week i did my focus turned to cystal then i turned back from crystal like you just did and my mark was gone see" joe then pulls up his sleave then noticing his L'cie brand was back "owe that isnt good"

Zack sighed and looked to Serah, he slowly picked her up oover the shoulder.

"C'mon, we better get moving." he said. Johnny looked down still thinking about Jaina.

"Hey, cheer up, it'll be okay." he said, Johnny sighed and nodded. they kept walking.

'i can't believe Genesis... how he could stoop so low.' he thought to himself.

{Dr Cid}

"No argument from me." Dr Cid hastily agrees.

He dismisses his weapon and runs for the door. A chunk of the ceiling breaks free and plummets down toward Cid and Lightning. A scant foot above the two human's heads, Venat catches it.

"Go." Venat instructs. "I will be right behind you."

Dr Cid nods and crosses the last few feet to the door. He turns to check on his companion.

Lightning turned to leave, noticing the orb over the remains of Orphan. She grabbed it wuickly, throwing herself out of the Throne before it collapsed. Soon, the entire world began to quake. "Damn it! Cocoon's coming down!" She grabbed Cid by the collar, the pair vanishing in a cloud of darkness.

 

They reappeared on the Bahamut, Lightning catching her breath. That was too close. Then it hit her: was the real Cocoon destroyed, or only this Cocoon?She thought about the nameless people in he rmemories. Were they safe? There was noting she could do...

 

She opened her clenched fingers, the orbs glowing softly in the palm of her hand. "This came out of Orphan after we killed it. What do you think it is?"

{Dr Cid}

Dr Cid takes a moment to catch his breath.

"Unsure." He says, still a little breathless. "There is hope and then there is reality. Sometimes they coincide, but..."

He stops and closes his eyes. He reopens them and breaths deeply to calm himself. He moves closer to Lightning and studies the orb.

"May I hold it?" Dr Cid asks, his hand hovering near by, waiting for an affirmative answer.

Jaina was slowly healing and able to walk, so Johnny put he left arm on him, helping her along.

"She'll be fine in a while," he said after using the Hi-Potion. "As long as the spells don't wear off, she'll recover in a day."

Vicente's body emerged from the cave just as it collapsed. The spirit which had driven him through the cave left his body and he fell.

"Such a frail body..." the spirit taunted him. "You are almost unworthy to be my apprentice."

Vicente averted his eyes away from the ghostly figure, "Master, how do I get stronger?"

The figure, now beginning to take some form, replied, "You must either find Ultima or steal another's power."

Vicente looked up and asked, "What do you mean by stealing someone's power?"

"I took your body and pushed it beyond its natural limits. Jaina's body was possessed by a darkened spirit. You need to find a fragment of another's power." The figure raised an arm (if you could call it that) and revealed Orphan's Cradle, "You remember our friend, Doctor Cid? He gave his son a piece of magicite capable of stealing another's magickal prowess. Find a shard of the nethicite, and you will gain strength."

Lightning eyed both Cid and the orb warily, handing it over. Could this really be a piece of Ultima? He was right. There's hope, and then there's reality...

 

(OOC: Short post. Sec's doing... bad guy stuff right now. He'l be back later.)

{Dr Cid}

"Thank you." Dr Cid says to Lightning as he takes the orb.

He studies it carefully for several minutes. At the end of that time, Venat appears beside Lightning.

"The fal'Cie is gone." Venat reports.

"Excellent." Dr Cid says absently.

He holds the orb up for Venat to see it.

"What do you think, my friend?" Dr Cid asks.

Venat remains silent for a moment.

"A powerful object. Possibly a piece of what we seek."

Dr Cid nods. A puzzled passes over Cid's face.

He hands the orb to Lightning.

"Hold this a moment." He tells Lightning.

He pulls out the notebook he copied Lightning's insights in. He speeds a few moments reading. Dr Cid heaves a sigh and replaces the notebook back in his satchel.

"Sadly, your recitation does not shed any light on this." Dr Cid explains.

{Balthier}

Balthier follows along behind the main group, making sure nothing follows. These engagements with the warriors of Chaos never yielded positive results and seemed to cost the warriors of Cosmos.

Balthier's line of thinking was broken by Johnny's proclamation. Balthier caught up a bit and checks on Jaina.

"Doing well, Miss?" Balthier asks Jaina.

"I could have told you that!" Lightning jabbed a finger at the doctor, still clutching the orb. "No one can make any sense of that. Even the fal'Cie follow it blindly." Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. All this man has done do far is question everything she has done and give her snippits of useless information. She knew when she was being played.

 

"You know what? I think this," Lightning holds up the orb. "Is what ties my world to this conflict. Orphan was the life of Cocoon, the life of my world. And if this is Ultima, then it should lead me to other pieces as well." She stared coldly at the man before her. "I'm taking this with me. If you wanna follow, you'd better tell me everything you know."

"I've certainly felt much better," Jaina replied, trying to throw out a smile through the pain. "Not easy to do this when you've been stabbed in the chest." She then looked over to Johnny, who had started to throw much of the burden of walking on himself, "This lug's not as good with healing spells as I am but he learned from the best."

Johnny laughed a little, "I see your sense of humor doesn't injure as well as the rest of you."

{Dr Cid}

Dr Cid rolls his eyes.

"More mistrust, my dear?" He asks, annoyance in his voice. "I thought we were mostly past that point of open hostilities in our little partnership."

He takes off his glasses and cleans them furiously. He then sighs, claiming down. He returns his glasses to his face.

"I know nothing more about that your world's connection to Ultima then you do."

He points to the orb.

"Do I think that is a piece, yes. Do I know for certain, no."

Dr Cid shrugs his shoulders.

"All I really know at this time is that Ultima is not whole. Pieces of it are scattered around."

He puts his hands behind his back and continues talking as if teaching a student.

"Not all worlds will have fragments. Some will just have clues."

He stops a moment, not sure if he wants to continue.

"And" He starts reluctantly. "Cosmos and Chaos hold their own pieces."

{Balthier}

 

Balthier smiles at Jaina's joke.

"Good to see our humor has not failed us." He says jovially. "That's something our Chaos counterparts seem to lack."

As Balthier is talking, he sees some rocks fall from above the group. He can barely hear the sounds of foot steps. above him.

He gets Jaina's and Johnny's attention.

"Keep walking and talking." Balthier mouths to them.

Balthier quietly darts away from the group and climbs to were he heard the noise.

Lightning stared at the doctor for a good amount of time, ice in her eyes. As far as she could tell, he was telling the truth. Did she trust him? Not at all. But did she need him? Unfortuantely...

 

"Fine. But I'm keeping this." She shook the orb, the shining object vanishing. "I may not trust you completely, but we still need each other. So, where do you think this next 'clue' is?" Lightning's armor clanked as she shifted her weight, the whole topic making her uncomfortable. Working with Chaos to save Serah and Hope...

 

She would do it again if given the choice, so why did it feel so wrong?

Dr Cid nods.

"Very well." He says, a little stiffly. "You can keep the orb."

He looks over at Venat.

"As for where to look now..."

He shrugs.

"I do not have any positive leads."

"The gift of the goddess." Venat quotes.

Dr Cid's face lights up.

"Oh, yes. I had forgotten about that legend. Thank you, Venat."

Chaos re-appeared at his throne, He looked to Genesis.

"She got away?" he aske,d Genesis sighed.

"Forgive me... lord, her allies came and overwelmed me." he said, Chaos sighed.

"Very well, Genesis..." he said, Genesis looked up.

"What would you have me do?" he asked, Chaos sighed.

"I may not be here soon, I need you to find the ones still loyal to me, and destroy the warriors of cosmos." he said. Genesis slowly nodded.

"Very well... master Chaos." he said. Chaos nodded. he held out his hand, a red orb appeared.

"What is that?" Genesis asked. Chaos nodded.

"It is a fraction of my power, it's one of the many keys to the ULTIMA." he said, Genesis' eyes widened.

'The gift of the goddess...' he thought in his mind. Chaos looked to genesis.

"You will be stronger with this." he said, Genesis nodded, he took the orb, it dissipeared. Chaos nodded.

"I must go now." he said, he then dissipeared. Genesis formed the sphere and looked at it.

'This is the key...'

Zack looked around suspiciously

(OOC: it's something mysterious that could be a piece of Ultima in Dr Cid's eyes. And then of course you have the conflict that might arise from this should be entertaining .)

 

{Balthier}

Balthier moves quietly toward the sound he had heard. He listens carefully for anymore sounds, but doesn't hear anything other than his companions talking. As he gets closer, a manikin of himself stands and blasts at him. Balthier dodges and fires back, killing the manikin.

"Damn." Balthier says as he looks over the area his manikin had been.

The ground shows signs of many more foot prints. He is about to rejoin his friends when he sees a torn paper caught under a rock. Balthier grabs it and reads it. It was an old legend from some world called Spira. Balthier froze. This was like the information Cid had sent him out to find. Was Cid also using the manikins?

"What are you doing?" Balthier mutters.

Zack looked to Balthier.

"hey, is something wrong?" he aske,d balthier sighed and shook his head, Zack nodded.

"Wooh it's getting late, matbe we should make camp?" Zack supposed.

-meanwhile-

Genesis appeared in the library, seeing Cid. (I'm assuming they're in some sort of library) He looked at Venat and then Lightning.

"Cid, Chaos is gone." he said, Cid staired at him, Genesis then opened his hand, the red orb appeared, Lightning staired at it.

"He said this is one of the keys to the ULTIMA." he said, Cid looked at the orb. (Now I suppose Cid would know where the orb is from and then get Genesis to team up)

OOC: No clue. Just somewhere on the Bahamut. I guess there could be a library somewhere on there...

 

Lightning felt a surge of energy as the fal'Cie's power resonated with Genesis' orb. They had to be pieces of Ultima. "Another pawn of Chaos, I take it." She summoned the heavy blade and shield, her eyes narrowing. "Let me guess: you want in on the game. Peace offering and everything." She motioned to the orb with the tip of her blade. "You wouldn't happen to know anything about this 'Gift of the Goddess', would you?"

Genesis looked to the pink haired girl.

"You look so much like your sister." he said, her eye's widened, she lunged towards him, he formed his sword and blocked for a moment, Cid looked at her annoyed at her and told her to lay off, she sighed and stopped. Genesis looked at her, and chuckled.

"The gift of the goddess is described in the loveless poems." he said, she looked at him strangely.

 

"When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end

The goddess descends from the sky

Wings of light and dark spread afar

She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting"

 

 

Genesis then held up the orb.

"Chaos believed he would be destroyed, and gave me the orb for safe keeping, it's one of the keys to achieve the Ultima, or am I mistaken?" Genesis asked.

Dr Cid studies Genesis with interest. Chaos gave him a piece of Ultima? Doubtful. But worth a look.

"An interesting theory, Genesis." Dr Cid comments.

He holds out his hand.

"Let me take a look."

{Balthier}

Balthier looks down at Zack. He thinks a moment.

"Let's not stay here." Balthier suggests. "Too many neighbors."

He folds the piece of paper he found and puts it in a pocket. He moves back to his companions.

"I found enough tracks for a small army over there."

He grimaces slightly.

"And a manikin."

Genesis looked at him strangely.

"Hm, I'm not sensing much trust here, and I need something I can fall back on in case you decide to take the orb and run." he said, tossing the orb up and down, Lightning frowned. Cid sighed, then looked at Lightning. she sighed and pulled out the orb, Genesis nodded.

"On three." he said, Cid opened up his hands.

"One, two, Three!" he said, He tossed the orb to cid, while lightning tossed the orb to Genesis angry.

"Oh please, you'll get it back." he said, she looked away pouting. he studied the orb.

'They're identicle.' he thought to himself.

-meanwhile-

Zack nodded, they started moving, he summoned the orb in his hand and looekd at it.

"Hm, what is it for?' he thought in his mind.

{Dr Cid}

Dr Cid looks at the orb intently. if this was a piece of Ultima, then that was two found.

"I'd say that you have a very interesting object." Dr Cid answers Genesis. "Possibly a piece of Ultima."

Cid rotates the orb in his hand.

"Tell me, since Chaos entrusted this to you, what ever shall you do with it?"

Genesis looked at him.

"I haven't thought that far ahead to be blunt, i figure I'd try to find more and end the cycle." he said. Cid looked at him.

"From what I hear, that's also your plan." he siad.

-meanwhile-

Zack sighed and putted the orb away, he and the others kept moving, they got to a cliff and looekd out, Manikins were verywhere, theys eemed to be rounded up by a soldier of chaos.

"Damn..." Zack said looking out.

{Dr Cid}

Dr Cid smiles.

"Close enough." He says pleasantly.

He looks over at Lightning. Dr Cid laughs softly.

"My friend over there want's her orb back. On three?"

Cid counts down and as he throws the "Chaos" orb to Genesis as he throws the "Orphan" orb to Lightning.

Dr Cid deeply wants to take both here and now but knew that he needs allies more than pieces to an incomplete puzzle right now.

"Well now." Dr Cid says. "This should is an excellent find."

He looks at Genesis in the eyes. Could this one be controlled? Lightning's motive is understood. But Genesis's motive is far less clear.

Dr Cid smiles.

"Do you happen to know more about these poems you spoke of before?"
